Hyderabad: MEA issues alert against fake Passport websites

Hyderabad: The Ministry of External Affairs has issued an alert across the country as all the services related to MEA including Passport application have been hit by fraudulent websites and other third-party applications which are collecting the applicants personal details including duping them of huge amounts of money towards the related charges.

The situation has prompted the MEA to issue an alert across the country urging people to make sure that they are accessing the original official website, TT reports.

Several people in Hyderabad including senior IAS and IPS officers have already fallen prey to fake websites that have duped them of money by promising them of uploading their details online and securing appointments to apply for a passport at the nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) in the city.

The MEA’s official website  www.passportindia.gov.in has also approached search engine Google for taking action against the fraudulent websites that are showing up before the official website but it is learned that Google has refused to take any action against the websites saying the websites were carrying disclaimers that they were extending “consultancy services”.

Almost identical URLs:
These fake websites have almost same URLs with the MEA’s official website with little or minor changes in the domain name, government logos and additional services which most people will skip noticing said Regional Passport Officer E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy while addressing a public conference yesterday.

Apart from collecting personal details of the applicants, these websites were also found to be charging ‘fee’ ranging from Rs.4,000 to Rs.5,000 with an SMS sent to the applicant confirming the ‘appointment date and time’ at the PSK. When applicants reached the PSK to submit documents, they realized that they were cheated.

“As these websites are tied up with Google, the moment an applicant types passportindia…., it is the names of these websites that are first displayed on the screen. We have taken up the issue with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology apart from lodging a complaint with Google to address the issue,” he said.

Salem’s versified translation of the Qur’an in Urdu released

Hyderabad: A religious scholar of Islam from Hyderabad, Shaikh Salem Ba Vazeer Quadri has rendered the Holy Qur’an into a versified translation in Urdu.

Perhaps he is one of the first persons from Hyderabad to translate the Holy Book into poetic Urdu.

According to M Ziauddin Nayyar, a noted social and religious activist, there was a gentleman in Hyderabad who used to read out his versified translation of the Qur’an in small gatherings. “I am not sure whether that translation has ever been published,” he said.

According to an article by Dr. Hafiz Mohammad Saber Pasha Quadri in Siasat Urdu Daily’s Literary Supplement on Monday the first versified translation of the Holy Book was done by famous Urdu poet Semaab Akbarabadi. But no copy of that translation is available, he said.
Shaikh Salem, a former government employee, took about 50 years to complete the gigantic task and brought it out recently at a function. He is 80 years of age.

According to the writer, Shaikh Salem used to read one page of the Qur’an every day and translate it. He used to read it whenever he had time. He collected all those translations of his, wrote them neatly in a notebook and kept it for himself. On the advice of a friend, he divided his work into six parts each containing five paras or sections. The entire work turned out into five parts. When he did not find a publisher to bring out his work, his friends decided to release the notebook version at a public function recently.

These marriages, which have cut across caste barriers that have been in existence for centuries, have, surprisingly, been met with little or no resistance at all

Cheers as Rural Warangal breaks caste, cash barriers

Warangal Rural: Low sex ratio and dowry demands notwithstanding, in many small tribal pockets of rural Warangal a change is being noticed in the social fabric. There has been a surge in the number of love marriages in the last two years — a never-heard-of concept in these small hamlets of 20 to 50 houses which are now cutting across deep-rooted caste barriers. And in most cases, the marriages are met with little or no resistance at all.

Madala Sridevi (now 24) had eloped and married her classmate Kondaraju Dileep. While the girl is from Manne caste (SC), the boy belongs to the Chakali caste (BC). Within 10 days both families came around and organised a celebration.

Sushmita and Rajesh with their child

“We were the first to accept the marriage. As soon as we got to know of it, we had a word with the girl’s mother,” said Ramamma Kondaraju, the boy’s grandmother. Though the girl’s mother had paid Rs 51,000 as dowry to a suitor from the same community, when the girl chose to elope and married the boy from a higher caste, her mother agreed to the match. “I want my girl’s happiness. So, I agreed to the match,” said the girl’s mother.

In most cases, an elaborate celebration is organised after the marriage or after the first child is born. Sushmita, who is from the Mala caste, fell in love with her classmate Gorantla Rajesh who is from the Shali caste, while they were studying in Warangal. The two secretly tied the knot with the help of the boy’s elder brother. Soon, everything fell in line. According to TOI reports, the journalist visited the Thanda, an elaborate family function for their son’s birth was underway where both sides of the families were present.

In another case where the girl had married a boy from a lower caste admitted to facing some resistance. “My family was initially upset that I was marrying into a different caste, but then had I married into my caste, they would have had to pay Rs 10 lakh to Rs 20 lakh as dowry. The consideration of dowry makes many parents agree to love marriages,” she said.

Sources say that apart from the acceptance, love marriages are also being encouraged these days. “The trend of love marriages began two years ago. Now, it’s even encouraged,” said Dr. NC Satyaraj, health extension officer of Sangem mandal.

“Technology and smartphones, which have made inroads into the hamlets, have played a big role,” said child protection officer Warangal Rural, G Mahender Reddy.

Many couples who fell in love and got married had met in school, college or at the workplace and went on to stay in towns or big cities, leaving behind their families in the Thandas. One such family is of Sambharaju Padma and Narsaiah. Their daughter-in-law is from a higher caste and although her family hasn’t come around so far, the boy’s family organised a celebration after they got married. The techie couple now lives in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: The mother of 21-year-old woman, who was lured into a lucrative job offer in Kuwait and is now stranded in the Gulf country, has urged the Central government to ensure that her daughter returns to India safely.

Safia Begum told ANI here on Monday that her daughter Zakia Mirza left for Kuwait in January this year. She was promised a teaching job at
Rs 30,000 per month salary but she was later employed as a housemaid.

“My daughter Zakia Mirza used to work as a teacher in Hyderabad. One day, our neighbour offered her a teaching job in Kuwait. After this, an agent Shareef approached my daughter and promised her Rs 30,000 salary for teaching in Kuwait,” she said.

“Zakia believed the agent and left to Kuwait on January 23. When she landed in Kuwait, she was offered a housemaid job instead of a teaching job. Zakia’s employers were taking heavy work from her from the first day,” Begum said.

Begum claimed that her daughter, Mirza, left her employer’s residence and is currently residing in the Indian Embassy in Kuwait.

“Zakia was fed up working as a housemaid for a few days. Later, she had run from her employers’ residence and reached the Indian Embassy there. Since last few months, my daughter has been in the Indian Embassy,” she said.

“Zakia spoke to me two months ago and said that she will return to Hyderabad soon. She is still in Kuwait,”

Begum further alleged the local police station denied any help regarding her daughter’s return.

“We have also approached the local police but they are not responding to us. When we approached the agent who sent Zakia, he demanded money to bring her back. I don’t have any money. I request the Central government to intervene and ensure my daughter’s early return,” she said.
