BJP, Cong attack TRS govt over less number of COVID-19 tests

$

Hyderabad: The opposition BJP and the Congress in Telangana have slammed the TRS government for allegedly conducting less number of COVID-19 tests, a charge dismissed by the ruling party.

BJP demands Telangana Health Minister’s resignation

BJP chief spokesperson in Telangana K Krishna Saagar Rao, in a statement on Tuesday evening, demanded resignation of Telangana Health Minister Etela Rajender for “endangering the entire population of Telangana by intentionally conducting the lowest number of tests than any other state in India, with proportionate population.”

The health minister has not only underperformed during the massive health crisis but also wilfully misled the people of the state, opposition and media by claiming the state was testing as per ICMR guidelines, he alleged.

His department was also not reporting the test data regularly as mandated by ICMR in the daily bulletins since many weeks, he claimed.

“BJP stands vindicated on the allegations it has been making with substantive data since weeks, that TRS government has been manipulating COVID19 infection rate in the state of Telangana since the beginning and more so after the second week of April,” the BJP leader said.

“One cannot understand the intention of the state government behind this brazen deviation in reference to public health standard protocols,” he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy slams TS Govt.

State Congress president and MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy hit out at the Telangana government for allegedly not testing enough.

He claimed that the state was testing only 250 samples per day.

“TS (Telangana state) is conducting 652 tests/M while natl. avg is 1600.

Look at total tests done by TS & neighbouring states.

Tests in neighbouring States

TS – 22,842, AP – 2,29,118, Kar- 1,40, 024, MH -2,61,783, TN – 3,26,720. TS is testing only 250 samples per day! Is T Govt policy- less tests mean less COVID cases !!, Uttam Kumar Reddy tweeted.

According to data released by the state government on May 17 as part of its daily bulletin, the cumulative number of samples tested as on May 16 was 23,388.

Out of that, 947 men tested positive, while 566 women were found positive.

It said 14,256 men tested negative, while 7,619 women tested negative.

According to official data (also furnished on May 17), as on May 14, Telangana carried out 22,842 tests, while 1388 positive cases were found.

Tests done to detect a positive case were 16 in Telangana.

However, ruling TRS MLC Palla Rajeshwara Reddy dismissed the criticism, saying the state government is following the guidelines, issued from time to time, by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Centre.

“The government of Telangana, the medical and health department, is following the ICMR guidelines and the Central Government guidelines.

Whenever, they give guidelines, we are following,” he told PTI on Tuesday, when asked about the Congress’ criticism.

The state government has been following the central guidelines vis-a-vis lockdown, testing and others, he said.

The TRS leader said different wings of the Central Government have been visiting continuously and monitoring the situation and expressed full satisfaction with regard to Telangana government’s steps to contain COVID-19 spread.

Dismissing criticism that Telangana was not conducting enough tests compared to its neighbouring state (an apparent reference to Andhra Pradesh), Rajender said on April 28 that ICMR guidelines state that tests should be done on those who are symptomatic and not on those who do not show symptoms.

Hyderabad: DRDO develops AI-based attendance application

$

Hyderabad: Covid-19 pandemic has presently made it unsafe to use contact-based biometric verification for attendance marking systems. To circumvent this problem, Research Centre Imarat (RCI), DRDO has successfully developed AI-based Attendance Application (AINA) which allows non-contact based personnel verification using facial features of the person captured with the help of a low-cost camera.

AINA can be deployed with minimal up-gradation to the legacy attendance infrastructure with RFID readers. AINA can be installed on a normal desktop computer with a GPU based display adapter. Existing CCTV cameras can be utilized for capturing facial images.

Facial features of several thousands of employees can be stored in the computer since for each employee the facial features are encoded in a small (less than 25 KB) file.

The system is fully scalable since the time for identification and verification for each person remains constant even as the number of registered personnel increases.

It is fully secure as it works as a standalone system and does not require any connection to the Internet. Since only the facial features are saved in an encoded form, the actual face images need not be saved. thereby ensuring privacy and security. Also, the server storing the facial feature database is confined to the organization premises.

AINA has a light-weight installation process. AINA comes with a very intuitive and user-friendly GUI with audio prompts which can be optionally disabled. AINA has been currently installed in ESIC Hospital, Hyderabad.

Contact-less Retail and F&B Options: Taking a step forward to enhance passenger experience while keeping them safe and abiding by the mandatory protocols announced by the Government of India amid the pandemic outbreak, GMR’s two leading airports in Delhi and Hyderabad have come up with a first of its kind contact less food ordering solution at the airport.

Modi, KCR treat migrant workers in inhuman manner: Uttam

$

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President & Nalgonda MP Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has alleged that both Central and State Governments have treated the migrant workers in an inhuman manner.

He was speaking after launching a special web portal to address issues of stranded migrants in Telangana at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday. The portal has been designed by TPCC IT Cell Chairman K. Madan Mohan Rao, who is also the CEO of company USMsys.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Prime Minister Narender Modi and Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao have failed to help the migrant workers. He said both Modi and KCR Govts did nothing for the migrant workers even on humanitarian grounds and they were treated in an inhuman manner on multiple occasions.

He said that both the governments did not show any concern even when a few migrant labourers died on the streets while returning to their homes by walk. He said both PM Modi and CM KCR would be remembered in history for creating a human tragedy by imposing an unplanned lockdown that displaced crores of migrant workers.

The TPCC Chief said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has directed the party cadre to help the migrant workers and compared the present situation to the difficulties faced by refugees during partition of India in 1947. Following Sonia Gandhi’s appeal, he said Congress leaders and workers across Telangana State have helped migrant workers in every possible way.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that there were nearly 13 crore migrant workers across the country in need of immediate help. He said food, which is preserved in huge quantities in FCI godowns, should be provided them. He said that the situation would not have deteriorated if the government would’ve distributed rice and cash among migrant workers at the appropriate time.

However, he said both, the Central and State Government had no plans to effectively combat the Coronavirus or to find a safe exit from lockdown situation. He said KCR, who considers himself to be an expert on all subjects, had no clue about the approximate number of migrant workers in Telangana.

He said KCR gave two contradictory figures of 3.5 lakh and over 7 lakh migrant workers on different occasions. But another minister, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, claimed that there 15 lakh migrant workers in Telangana. He said lakhs of migrants work for construction, kiln industry and rice mills. He said the ignorance of facts has further deteriorated the conditions for migrant workers who found no help from any quarter, except for the Congress party.

The TPCC Chief said that the government should’ve taken the help of Indian Army to send back the migrant workers to their native places. Criticising the Modi and KCR Govts for not making arrangements for safe return of migrant workers, he praised the services rendered by Congress leaders in this regard. He also praised the role played by Congress MLA Jagga Reddy in helping the migrant workers.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the freedom of the press was in real danger in Telangana State. Accusing the TRS Govt of suppressing the media, he said the house of a news channel reporter, Paramesh, in Narayankhed was demolished by municipal authorities a day after he reported about TRS MLA Bhupal Reddy’s birthday party with 500 people with no social distancing and no masks. He said there has been a rise in cases of attacks on journalists.

He said even the Chief Minister is using abusing and intimidating tone against the media personnel during his press conference. He said this attitude towards media by the ruling party was a threat to the survival of democracy in India.

Meanwhile, Madan Mohan informed that the special web portal on stranded migrants was comprehensive and it works on the basis of Artificial Intelligence and accessible in multiple Indian languages. He said that the portal has been designed on war footing basis. He expressed regret that IT Minister K. Tarakarama Rao did not even attempt to provide this kind of service to the affected migrant workers.

Later in the day, the TPCC President distributed ‘Ramzan Tohfa’ to poor minority families in Miryalaguda constituency. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the Congress party always stood for welfare and security of minority communities and for communal harmony. He appealed to all Congress cadres in Telangana to distribute Ramzan Thofa among poor Muslim families as Iftar dinners could not be organised due to lockdown.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also flagged off a bus for Oriya brick kiln migrant workers from Nalgonda to Orissa state. The bus charges and enroute food cost was met by Congress party.

In Nalgonda today, he also visited a blood donation camp organised by Congress party on the occasion of the 55th birthday of MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.

Area around Dargah Faqeer Mullah earmarked for burial of corona victims

Hyderabad: After local graveyards of the city started objecting to the burials of people who died due to COVID-19, a solution emerged in the outer parts of Hyderabad. A section adjacent to a 50-acre of Wakf Land under Dargah Faqeer Mullah near to Shareef Nagar in Balapur is being used for the burials of corona victims.

In October 2018, 50-acres of Wakf land Dargah Faqeer Mullah in Balapur was allotted a space attached to the Dargah for a graveyard. This will be utilised if the deceased’s kin face objections from local graveyards.

Ever since the reports of resentment from the local graveyards’ management started circulating, Hyderabad MP and AIMIM party chief Asaduddin Owaisi suggested using this graveyard as it was located on the outskirts. “To resolve the problem of burying the person who died from virus, it was decided to instead allocate the graveyard for the deceased,” informed, Mirza Saleem Baig, the corporator of the Riyasath Nagar.

He said that the graveyard would be ideal, as it is around 10 km away from the city. “Those who died of the virus are being buried in a separate enclave in the corner of the graveyard. Till now four have been buried,” added Saleem Baig.

Adhering to government norms and medical advisory, each grave is eight feet deep and a distance of two to three feet is maintained between two graves. To dig the eight feet grave a JCB (JOSEPH CYRIL BAMFORD) a machinery is being used. About three grave blocks have been prepared for the burial of further victims.

Meanwhile, the residents living close to the graveyard have objected. “The dead are being brought for burial during the night hours. To ensure the virus does not spread in the area, we request the officials to sanitise the surroundings because around 200 families live here. Moreover, this route can be avoided and an alternate area with less population can be chosen,” said a local, on request of anonymity.
