Hyderabad: BJP National SC Morcha secretary Bangaru Shruthi on Thursday staged hunger strike protest in front of Chaderghat police station and demanded registration of a case under SC/ST atrocities act against the AIMIM Malakpet legislator Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala.

The agitators raised slogans against the MIM MLA and demanded Chaderghat police to issue FIR against the legislator since there is a prima facie evidence against him.

it has been twelve days of filing a complaint against the MIM Legislator, the police did not acted and kept it pending till date the protestors alleged. “The legislator had openly abused a dalit woman leader in front of public, but there has been in action on the part of police and I question the silence of police and Government” said Bangaru Shruthi.

Grace Cancer Foundation launches ‘Mobile COVID ICU’ in India

Helping to create universal access to critical care

Hyderabad: Grace Cancer Foundation – a non-profit working for the early detection of cancer, has created a unique concept – A Mobile COVID-19 ICU(MCICU). The MCICU is an ICU that is created by a bus. The Mobile COVID ICU was formally flagged off by the Hon’ble Health Minister Etela Rajender, Dr.C.Laxmareddy MLA in the presence of Dr. Chinnababu Sunkavalli, CEO, Grace Cancer Foundation, Rajiv Lal, and a host of other dignitaries.

The number of COVID 19 cases in India has crossed the 100,000 mark. The return of migrants coupled with the gradual re-opening post lockdown could lead to a volatile situation. The expected need of ICUs and ventilator equipped beds could be as high as 1,00,000, while the current capacity is around 15,000. Even these are unevenly spread with a large concentration in Metros and state capitals. The capacity of the state governments is stretched and their ability to augment capacity is severely limited.

The MCICU aims to save precious lives as it takes advanced critical care to mofussil and rural areas where such facilities are lacking. The bus based ventilator equipped ICU is mobile and can be positioned in areas of the greatest need. It has state-of-the-art facilities for Ventilators, Imaging, Tele Radiology, e-ICU, Ultrasound, AI Based Risk Stratification and Contactless Sample Collection. The program supplements the government capacity for testing and awareness building. Itis one step ahead of mobile testing as it moves to therapeutic care as well. It can perhaps be a model for rapid scaling should that be needed.

This unique initiative is supported by Liberty General Insurance and NATCO Pharma. IIIT is the data and technology partner in the program.

Roopam Asthana, CEO and Whole Time Director, Liberty General Insurance Ltd. “Liberty General Insurance is very happy to support the setup of a mobile ICU unit by Grace Foundation. We are convinced that this effort will provide the much needed medical support to our communities which do not have adequate facilities in times of the current crises as well as post that.”

“In the current scenario there is a great need to supplements the efforts of the Governments to combat the disease spread effectively. Innovative solutions that are accessible and affordable and the involvement of NGOs can help mitigate the burden. Grace Cancer Foundation is launching India’s first state-of-the-art, Mobile COVID ICU, to reach modern care in remote areas and stem the disease spread, says Dr Chinnababu Sunkavalli.

  • Grace Cancer Foundation launches ‘Mobile COVID ICU’ in India
  • Grace Cancer Foundation launches ‘Mobile COVID ICU’ in India
  • Grace Cancer Foundation launches ‘Mobile COVID ICU’ in India

Rajeev, Vice Chairman & CEO, NATCO said, “We have always been a firm believer that healthcare and availability of medicines is a fundamental human right. Keeping in line with our philosophy, we are constantly striving to bring affordable medicines to people at large. With the looming COVID-19 crisis, NATCO is very glad to support Grace Foundation with their timely introduction of mobile ICU clinics that targets to reach the needy in remote areas”

The MCICU brings in a plethora of advantages in an unprecedented situation like this. It will increase the capacity of ventilators where the shortage is likely to be critical, especially in the district and block level hospitals. Easy mobility enhances the usage potential of the ventilators in a hyper local environment. The cost of building the unit is up to 50% lower than doing the same in a

hospital context. It can be expeditiously assembled and made functional in less than ten days. The MCICU renders service with support from volunteers. Medical personnel committed to the cause come forward, which in turn further reduces the cost of care. It also addresses the critical shortage of intensivists in district and block level hospitals.

Hyderabad: Purshotham Reddy Environmentalists warned the Government that the people in the state and pro-environment will not allow mining of uranium, as being attempted by the Uranium Corporation of India, in the State. He called for a referendum on the issue from people.

Speaking to The Siasat Daily Mr. Purshotham Reddy he said the Nalamala forests are part of the Eastern Ghats and important for maintaining the Eco System in entire South India.

He said the opening of NalaMala forests for mining uranium will be suicidal particularly seeing COVID.

He was reacting following Centre seeking  Telangana State to clear its stance on uranium survey. With this the ball is back in Telangana Government’s Court on the issue surrounding the proposal for uranium survey and exploration by Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMDER)in Amrabad Tiger Reserve in Nalamala forests. The proposal for Uranium Exploration and Survey in Amrabad Tiger Reserve had come for hearing in the recently held meeting of Forests Administration.

Purshotham Reddy said that basically five to six months back when the agitation reached its peak Chief Minister KCR announced in the Assembly that the Telangana Government will not allow Uranium mining in the State. If the Centre is interested in mining Uranium in Telengana then the State Government will join the citizens in opposing the project.

But following renewed efforts by Uranium Corporation of India and Forest Advisory Committee on Bio Diversitygiving consent Mr. Purshotham Reddy questioned will the State Government of Telangana convene a meeting of Forests Advisory Committee and take a bold stand he wondered. Mr. Purshotham Reddy said that the People of NalaMala forests will never allow mining of uranium.

The Nalamala is important for maintaining the ecosystem in entire South India. Adivasis particularly Chenchus live off the forests. Opening Nalamala will be suicidal he argued. Mr. Purshotham Reddy said the development has to be people-friendly. This kind of mining activity at the cost of Eastern Ghats will not be allowed. He said that it is easy for them to revive the agitation. A bandh call to save the Eastern Ghats will be given if the State Government supports the mining decision.

People from Nagarjunasagar, Deverkonda, Acchampet, KollapurNagar kurnoolKalwakurthy Jadcherla will join the agitation. More than six to seven assembly segments are against uranium mining in the region. If the Government wants to know the mood let them call for a referendum. He explained that Nalamala is the storehouse of genetic material. Any damage to the ecosystem will affect mankind particularly the poor and the tribals.

He said that a massive agitation was held in the past opposing the mining of uranium following which the state government had to give an assurance in the State Assembly he said. It may be recalled that the Nalamala forests are the most important part of Eastern Ghats. Major parts of these Ghats are in Telangana. The Ghats range in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

The last three months since there has been a heavy demand for Uranium and prices are increasing by the day. Hence the Uranium Corporation of India Limited a public sector had proposed taking up mining. The issue has been in the domain for the last 17years since 2003.

However due to the Opposition from Environmentalists a public hearing was therein which thousands of people gave their view opposing the mining. The proposal was shelved. Intermittently the issue has been coming up but people have been vigilant and will not allow mining he argued. Stating that it is the oxygen masks of the planet he reiterated his demand to call for a referendum.

Uttam condemns KCR’s policy on Covid-19 testing

$

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President & Nalgonda MP Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has strongly condemned Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s policy on conducting less number of tests for Coronavirus.

He was addressing a press conference at Jagityal along with TPCC Working President Ponnam Prabhakar, MLC Jeevan Reddy, MLA D. Sridhar Babu and other leaders on Thursday. They also participated in various programmes held on the occasion of death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that while the World Health Organisation (WHO) has been asking the affected countries to adopt a three-pronged strategy of ‘Trace, Test and Treat’ the Covid-19 patients, KCR has adopted a strange policy of not conducting the tests even for the strong suspects and secondary contacts. He said presently Telangana has the lowest testing in the country.

He said both the Central and State Governments have failed to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in the country, especially Telangana. He said while nearly 1600 per 10 lakh people were being tested for Coronavirus across the country, the average is just 650 per 10 lakh people in Telangana. He said this low rate of testing could prove to be highly dangerous for the entire society.

The TPCC Chief said not only more than 22,000 people have been tested in Telangana and the lowest rate was the reason for less number of identified Coronavirus patients. He said neighbouring States like Karnataka, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh have tested about 2.5 lakh to 4 lakh people.

Further, he said despite approved by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), the State Government did not allow nine private laboratories and hospitals in the State to conduct Covid-19 tests. He said even the directions of High Court were not being implemented by the State Government which again prompted the court to intervene into the issue.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said testing was stopped in Suryapet which had emerged as a hotspot for Coronavirus after Hyderabad. He said presently an average of 250 tests were being conducted across the State.

The TPCC Chief said that the State Government has failed to help the migrant workers in the State. He said that the Congress leaders have helped the migrant levels in every possible manner. He demanded that the State Government disclose the figures of donations collected from NGOs, institutions and individuals for Coronavirus relief to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He said that the government behave in a transparent manner by placing details of receipts and expenditure.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also rejected the proposed comprehensive Agriculture Policy of TRS Government and described it as a move to harass the already distressed farmers. He said that CM KCR was trying to deprive the farmers from Rythu Bandhu assistance by forcing them to grow crop of government’s choice.

He said that the State Government has been advising farmers to grow to cotton on nearly 70 lakh acres. Stating that the cotton farmers could not find the buyers for over 50 years and therefore, what guarantees would be provided by the government to the farmers that their entire crop would be purchased.

Airports set to provide contact-less food service to the flyers

Hyderabad: Taking a step forward to enhance passenger experience while keeping them safe and abiding by the mandatory protocols announced by the Government of India amid the pandemic outbreak, GMR’s two leading airports in Delhi and Hyderabad have come up with a first of its kind contact less food ordering solution at the airport.

  • HOI platform’s cognitive and intuitive capability helps enhance passenger experience
  • A one-stop solution for passengers to get various recommendations relevant for their upcoming travel

In line with the Government of India’s Digital India vision, Delhi and Hyderabad airports, have partnered with HOI, a cognitive and intuitive travel app that helps the travelers navigate the airport seamlessly.

Contact-less food ordering and payment service is one of the unique features of HOI app. This is very useful for the travelers as an enhanced safety measure amid the pandemic widespread.

Carrying food from home could be tedious, especially at these tough times when passengers’ only focus would be to catch flight on time after the lockdown is lifted and the airports become operational.

Delhi and Hyderabad airports have leveraged HOI app that enables passengers to safely order and pick up their meals with shortened wait time at the airports.

This feature of the app allows the travelers to discover outlets inside the terminal to order through their smartphones. They will receive alerts via the app, e-mail and SMS when their order is ready and the payment can be processed online.

This app, that makes commute through airports easier and hassle-free to a major extent, will enhance passengers experience by optimizing their wait times at the food courts as the passenger can order and pay through HOI before reaching airport or while waiting at the airport terminal.

To enable contactless orders, passengers can scan through QR Code placed near outlets or directly navigate to F&B Catalogue using the web version of HOI.

All that the user has to do is browse through the listed items, add their choice of meals to cart, pay online and pick up their order.

The user can then choose either Eat-In or Collect-at-Outlet option to pick their items kept ready at the outlet.

Passengers can avail this facility by simply downloading the app on their Android or iOS device, sign-up and add their upcoming flight’s travel details. They will be able to access all the events happening at the airports in just few taps.

Apart from contact-less food ordering feature, this app has several valuable features for both the airports’ passengers, such as real time flight status alerts, boarding gate and belt information, airport facility information, time to gate and waiting estimates, weather at destination amongst others.

“Passenger experience is prime to us even at this challenging time. As social distancing has become the new normal due to the pandemic, we have taken many initiatives to enhance passenger safety and comply with COVID-19 safety measures. We have adopted a unique platform to extend contactless solutions to the flyers.

HOI app comes with a comprehensive feature that lets the passenger enjoy contact-less food service at the airport. Besides food and beverages, passengers can also discover retail stores and other facilities available at the Delhi & Hyderabad Airports. Further, this app enables users to get connected to airport Wi-Fi seamlessly with One Touch Free Wi-Fi feature that lets them download content in a jiffy,” said a GMR Airport spokesperson.

Hyderabad: Welcoming the Centres move to resume domestic flight operations, the Andhra Pradesh & Telangana Chapter of Travel Agents Association of India on Friday said it would take at least three months for the business to pick up.

The Association Chairman Nagesh Pampati said the government needs to take measures to build up the confidence of people who want to travel and also educate all stakeholders about the dos and don’ts.

“This is a timely decision by the government.

Because let’s accept the fact that the virus is going to be there for a long time.

The Travel and tourism industry will take some time to pick up momentum, though the government is taking several steps to build up the confidence of the industry,” Nagesh told PTI.

On Thursday, the civil aviation ministry announced allowing about a third of domestic flight operations under strict norms from coming Monday after a two-month hiatus, mandating all the airlines to adhere to the upper and lower limits of fares prescribed by the government.

“It would take at least three months for the travel and tour industry to pick the momentum. That too it depends on various measures that the government is going to take,” Nagesh said.

According to him, about 40,000 people dependent on the tour and travel industry in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are hit by the lockdown, which forced the industry to come to a standstill.

Nagesh said hundreds of travel agents cancelled tickets due to the lockdown and refunded the amount to the passengers, though many agents are yet to receive full credit from the airlines.

Vijay Reddy, an infrastructure developer and frequent traveller, said it is necessary to open air travel as further delay would hurt the aviation industry as well as other businesses.

You cannot keep on traveling long journeys by bus or train. We should take precautions and at the same time try to bring normalcy,” Reddy said.

Balaji Travels, a local ticketing agent, said though the bookings are open, PNR (Passenger Name Record) numbers are not being issued by airlines.

Hyderabad: The Congress party on Friday demanded that the Election Commission take stern action against TRS leaders, including ruling party’s candidate K. Kavitha, for their alleged involvement in horse-trading of MPTCs, ZPTCs, Municipal Councillors and Corporators, to win the MLC elections from Nizambabad Local Bodies.

“Ruling TRS Party is brazenly indulging in violation of Code of Conduct in the ongoing Nizamabad MLC Elections (Local Bodies) as the contesting candidate from TRS is Kavitha Kalvakuntla, daughter of present Chief Minister of Telangana.

Therefore, they hatched a conspiracy to win these elections by hook or crook and hence resorted to illegal means of violating the code of conduct,” TPCC Working President & Malkajgiri MP A. Revanth Reddy, former minister & ex-Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Congress candidate V. Subhash Reddy and Ramareddy ZPTC N. Mohan Reddy alleged in their complaint lodged before Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Shashank Goel at his office here on Friday.

Speaking to media persons later, Shabbir Ali said that TRS Ministers, especially Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Member of Parliament BB Patil, Govt Whip G. Govardhan and other MLAs from Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts have been openly violating the Model of Code of Conduct without fear from the election authorities.

“TRS leaders are indulging in horse-trading of MPTCs, ZPTCs, Municipal Councillors & Corporators, belonging to all opposition parties. Since TRS does not have sufficient numbers to win the elections, they are threatening or luring the elected representatives of other parties to join TRS to ensure Kavitha’s victory. Their actions are a real threat to democracy. This must be stopped immediately if we wish to protect our democracy and constitution,” he said.

  • TRS, Kavitha indulging in horse-trading to win MLC polls: Cong

Shabbir Ali informed that the Congress leaders submitted the complete list of MPTCs, ZPTCs, Municipal Councilors & Corporators who were forcibly defected to TRS. He said the behavior of ruling TRS clearly shows that the MLC elections were not free and fair in any manner. Therefore, he said that the CEO has been urged to take immediate action under relevant laws and rules to stop horse-trading and contain the politics of luring or intimidation.

The Congress leader said that they had submitted the evidences to the CEO which clearly shows that ruling TRS has polluted the entire electoral system and it could be cleaned only if the Election Commission takes stern action against those who are violating the Model Code of Conduct and laws just to win elections.

Shabbir Ali said that the CEO has been asked to disqualify the elected representatives who defected to TRS with immediate effect.

The CEO has assured that he would direct the Nizamabad District Collector, who is also the Returning Officer, to submit a report in this regard at the earliest and would take action based on his finding.

Utilise CMRF funds to waive off power, water bills for lockdown

Hyderabad: The Congress party on Friday demanded that the Telangana Government waive off electricity and water bills for the entire lockdown period for all categories of consumers by utilising the funds received by CMRF towards Covid-19 relief works.

Hyderabad City Congress Minorities Dept Chairman Sameer Waliullah, in an open letter to Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday, demanded that the State Government provide relief to all the citizens by announcing a 100% waiver of electricity and water bills.

“The ongoing lockdown, which practically began on March 22, 2020, with the people voluntarily participating in “Janata Curfew” proposed by Prime Minister Narender Modi, has shattered the economy of our country and Telangana State. Not a single institution, commercial firm, private business houses, shop, vendor, family, institution, or even individual has remained unaffected due to the lockdown. Therefore, they must be given relief by waiving off the electricity and water bills,” he said.

Sameer Wailullah said that since there was no business or commercial activity, the private firms and companies had no revenues and therefore, they either laid off their employees or cut their salaries while some firms did both.

“People were forced to sit at their homes without any income and they exhausted their savings on food during the last two months. Most of the people had to borrow money from their relatives, friends, or neighbors for survival. There might be hardly a few people in the society who were unaffected due to lockdown. Since everyone consumed power and utilised water, they got their bills, in fact with a huge hike for the lockdown period. How will they pay for those bills now?” he asked.

The Congress leader said that the lockdown was totally unplanned and people were practically pulled into a trap.

“Originally we were requested to observe a total bandh for 14 hours across India and 24 hours in Telangana. When the call got a massive response, it was converted into a full-fledged lockdown from the next day and then we faced three phases of lockdown and night curfew now we are into the fourth phase till May 31. Originally, we all wanted to wage a strong battle against deadly Coronavirus and prevent its spread.

People thought that the government, both at the Centre and State, had a concrete plan to beat the virus and then lift the lockdown. However, even after two months, we seem to stand where we were exactly two months ago,” he said.

Sameer Waliullah said that the State Government’s move to provide 12 kg rice and Rs. 1500 financial assistance to those holding White Ration Card holders was appreciable although it is insufficient. Further, he pointed out that more than two-third of Telangana’s population belongs to middle-class.

Therefore, in normal circumstances, this middle-class segment does not expect anything from the government and instead it promptly pays taxes in various forms. But now the situation has changed and turned deplorable for all the classes in the society, especially middle-class, he said.

“We request you to kindly announce a 100% waiver of electricity and water bills for the lockdown period. People had no income since 22nd March 2020, and they will not be able to pay the power and water bills for their residences, offices, or shops. It was only from 19th May, that all shops, except those in Containment Zones, have been permitted to operate on an Odd-Even basis.

Therefore, it will take at least 5-6 months for the people to recover from the losses they incurred during the last two months. In these circumstances, the State Government should help all the people by announcing 100% waiver of power and water bills,” Sameer Wailullah demanded.

The Congress leader said that the State Government could compensate the energy firms and water board for the losses due to waiver from the huge donations it received towards Covid-19 relief works. Else, it can also adjust it from some other accounts as it did during a natural disaster, he said.

Hyderabad: A city-based NGO called Helping Hand Foundation (HHF) paid salaries to 200 Imams and Muezzins of city who offer services at mosques.

“Nearly 80% of the Imams and Muezzins in city mosque have not been paid their salaries due to drying up of collections in mosque which are closed now. Due to this many are facing hardship for ration, essential items & are struggling to support their families,” said Mujtaba Askari of HHF.

A survey was conducted by HHF across 100 mosques mainly in middle and low income areas and Slums of Hyderabad. It was revealed in a survey that 80% of mosque in middle and up market areas is managed by committees and only 30% of these mosques in slums are run by committees, After which the foundation decided to help the Imams and Muezzins.

People offer their services in mosque and the maintenance of mosque is dependent on weekly collections which are now running dry due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Some committees which are well endowed are able to pay the salaries and other dues to staff.

“It is a pity that 70% of the Muezzins who work in mosque for a meager salary of Rs 5000 to Rs 7000 are Hafiz e Quran, who also takes care of cleaning of mosques. 35-40% of the Imams and Muezzins are non-locals and are from other states – whatever they earn here goes to feed their families back home,” Mujtaba stated.

HHF has paid Rs 3000 each for Muezzins and Imam respectively in 100 mosques mainly across low-income areas for a total budget of Rs 6 lakh.
