  2. manabadi.co.in

SSC results: Grades annouced

This year, the grades have been awarded to the students based on their performance in internal assessment tests as final examination was cancelled due to coronavirus pandemic.

Although the government made attempts to conduct the final examination, Telangana High Court denied permission for the examination in GHMC limits due to rise in COVID-19 cases.

BIE may face challenge

Now, as more students will be seeking admission in intermediate courses, the Board of Intermediate may face challenges in accommodating them.

Apart from the rise in the number of students, maintaining physical distancing in the colleges may also pose a challenge.

Intermediate classes in shifts

BIE may explore possibility of conducting classes in shifts i.e., first year in morning shift and second year in afternoon shift or vice versa.

Meanwhile, uncertainty looms over the start of classes in Intermediate colleges due to rise in COVID-19 in the State.

Telangana governor & government lock horns over handling corona

Hyderabad: Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and Telangana government have locked horns over the issue of handling of Covid-19 cases and testing.

Recently Soundararajan gave statements over handling of coronavirus situation which have not gone down well with the state government.

According to Times of India, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was unhappy with the governor for reviewing and commenting on Covid-19 cases and indirectly giving ammo to the opposition BJP and Congress to target his government.

Ruffled over Soundararajan holding meetings on key subjects like education and health without informing its officials, the CM is believed to have discussed the issue with some of his ministers and top officials.

The governor recently visited Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS). Earlier she had interacted with senior health officials on the ongoing lockdown measures and Covid-19 cases.

A senior CMO official claimed that by criticising the government the governor is providing moral support to the opposition parties. Criticising the governor a top CMO official noted that the role of a governor is advisory and she cannot criticise her own government. By interacting with officials without informing the government she is violating the protocol he said.

It must be recalled that last month the governor had not only interacted with vice-chancellors and educationists of various universities in her capacity as a chancellor, but had also given instructions to the VCs on conducting the examinations. This upset the government and the officials feel it was the prerogative of the government.

The government has been wary of Soundararajan’s actions, ever since she was sworn in as Telangana governor in September 2019. Besides expressing a desire to conduct a ‘janata darbar’ at Raj Bhavan, Soundararajan liberally gives appointments to opposition leaders. A senior functionary of the government pointed out that BJP and Congress have met her at least 20 times in the last few months.

It must not be out of place to mention here that Soundararajan was the Tamil Nadu BJP chief before occupying the gubernatorial post at the Raj Bhavan.

Hyderabad: A murder case was registered against an unknown person after a body of a woman wrapped in a plastic cover was found floating in Sunnam Cheruvu lake in Hyderabad, the police said on Monday.

According to the police, locals noticed the floating body and alerted the police. The limbs of the body were tied with a cloth.

Speaking to ANI over the phone, Inspector Chandrasekhar Reddy said, “Locals found a body floating in the water and alerted the police. The body was retrieved from the lake and found it to be a woman’s.

Woman’s limbs were tied with a cloth and the body was wrapped in a plastic cover. A murder case has been registered, the body is yet to be identified. Further investigation is underway.”

Police in Hyderabad have formed special teams to identify the body of the woman. Three special teams were constituted to crack the case. Since the body was decomposed, the police released a photograph of her right hand which bore a dollar sign tattoo.

Inspector Chandrashekhar Reddy said the locals informed the police about the body floating in the lake. The police personnel, who rushed there, pulled out the body and found it to be of a woman.

The woman, believed to be aged between 30 and 40 years, was wearing kurta pyjama.

The official said the body had decomposed and the face was beyond recognition. Police suspect that the body might have been dumped in the lake 3-4 days ago.

The police reportedly found an injury on her head.

An autopsy was conducted on the body at a government-run Gandhi Hospital.

Police officers said they will take up the investigation into the murder after establishing identity of the victim.

The investigators were also trying to find out if the woman was sexually assaulted before the murder.

Since nothing was found on the body which could help in the identification, the police were relying entirely on the tattoo on her hand. By releasing the tattoo picture, they have appealed to people to inform the police station if they know anything about the woman.

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP State President Bandi Sanjay Kumar and other leaders were detained by police on Monday while they were approaching the office of the Director of Public Health and family welfare in Hyderabad demanding COVID-19 be added in Aarogyasri healthcare scheme.

“Coronavirus treatment should be added to Aarogyasri else Ayushman Bharat should be implemented in the state as the central government has added the virus to Ayushman Bharat. If you cannot even do this, give free treatment for the people who will not be able to afford the charges set by you,” Bandi said.

“We demand free Coronavirus treatment and an increase in the number of tests in the state. All the government hospitals in the state should start treatment. Today only the leaders are protesting in the permitted numbers and the leaders are being arrested by police,” added Bandi.

He raised the question on the number of tests being conducted by the government and said that virus is spreading because of Chief Minister’s negligence in the state.

“Because of the Chief Minister’s negligence the virus is spreading in the state. How many tests have been made so far in Telangana? Why is it not increasing the numbers of tests like other states did? Today we are the one who brought containment zone concept and even lockdown. When Prime Minister suggested Cheif Minister after the first death noted in state, the chief minister didn’t respond to it and said that only wearing masks and proper sanitisation can save us,” Bandi said.

Rakesh Reddy, Telangana State BJP Spokesperson Speaking to ANI said, “The government of Telangana has been neglecting the COVID situation in State while the rest of the states are doing lakhs of tests. Telangana government conducted only about 50,000 tests. Today the virus is spreading rapidly, on daily basis about 700 cases are being reported therefore we are demanding for rapid tests in the state.”

Petitioner hopes High Court intervention ends Islamophobic posts

$

Hyderabad: A day after the Telangana High Court issued notices to Twitter and the Centre over Islamophobic posts, the lawyer-petitioner said on Tuesday that he hoped that the courts intervention on his PIL will put an end to the hate peddled on the social media.

Khaja Aijazuddin, a practising advocate at the High Court, told IANS that since the government had failed to act to make Twitter remove objectionable and illegal posts, the court will do the needful to prevail upon the government to do its duty.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B Vijaysen Reddy on Monday ordered notices to the Union Cabinet Secretary, the Union Home Secretary, Telangana Director General of Police, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, and Twitter Inc, represented by its Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey.

The court asked all five respondents to file their replies and posted the next hearing to July 20.

The Public Interest Litigation plea sought orders to Twitter to remove the Islamophobic posts and illegal trends linking coronavirus to Islam. He also prayed for criminal action against Twitter and its users who posted hateful posts.

The petition pointed out that illegal trends are run on Twitter with hashtags like #Islamiccoronavirusjihad, #Coronajihad, #Tablighijamat, #Nizamuddinidiots, #TablighiJamatVirus and other Islamophobic posts.

Aijazuddin also sought orders to restrain all online sites in India from carrying Islamophobic posts as they hurt the feelings of the Muslim community, pointing out that such posts may disturb the communal harmony in the country.

The petitioner submitted to the court that he had made representations to the respondents in the first week of April to prevail upon Twitter to delete the inflammatory trends but they failed to act.

He had initially filed the PIL under Article 32 of the Constitution of India in the Supreme Court but the apex court asked him to approach the Telangana High Court.

The petitioner referred to the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) which clearly stipulate that attaching the religion with the pandemic is not permissible.

“Attaching the religion to pandemic disease which is done by social network users on Twitter is highly unwarranted, illegal and unconstitutional,” the petitioner argued.

He further argued that the failure of the authorities to act on his representations is nothing but violation of rule of law.

“The petitioner’s rights have been infringed and it is violative of Article 14 of the Constitution of India as the State is duty-bound to show utmost impartially towards its citizens to maintain equality of law or protections of law within the territory of India.”

“With the counters being invited from respondents, I feel that the court has taken cognizance that my PIL has got a point,” Aijazuddin told IANS on Monday.

The lawyer said the government instrumentalities were empowered under the law to act over the hateful posts and since they failed to act, he exuded confidence that the court will prevail up on the government to take action against Twitter or any company spreading hatred.

He pointed out that as per Information Technology Act of 2000, attacking any community on social media is an offence and prosecution has to be ordered by the government of India or state government.

“Twitter has to give an explanation why it allowed such content while the government has to give an explanation to the court as to why they failed to act. For two and half months they have not taken any action. Is it not the duty of the government to prevail upon Twitter to stop this? Will they act only if the court passes an order?” he asked.

The lawyer feels that there is a “hidden conspiracy” behind the massive Twitter trends targeting Islam and Muslims.

“I have noticed massive trends on Twitter. I have come to know some people choose a topic on a particular day. They tweet, re-tweet and it goes on and on. If needed I will amend my prayer to initiate a CBI inquiry into what is happening,” he said.

Aijazuddin pointed out how countries like the United States, China, Thailand and Japan act quickly to block any tweet which is offensive, against the public at large and violate the law of the land.

“In India they can trend or tweet whatever they want to against Islam and Muslims, linking them to coronavirus and calling for Muslims to be thrown into the Bay of Bengal. This should be stopped immediately. Today it is the Muslims, tomorrow the Sikhs, the Dalits, or some other community may become the target,” he added.

Abid Ali, the city’s own cricketer, is a true blue Hyderabadi

$
0
0

In the late 60s, while practicing with a bunch of South Zone Ranji team in Hyderabad, cricketing great Mansoor Ali Khan asked fellow teammates if any of them wanted to run a lap around the Gymkhana ground.

One Hyderabadi son of the soil, Syed Abid Ali, was the only one who took Pataudi up on that offer. Though the Tiger stopped halfway, Abid Ali finished his lap.

In awe of his stamina, Khan then commented to the folks around them, “This is a strange kid!”

By no means was that a backhanded compliment but a genuine one. This is because when it came to overall athletic abilities, Ali really had a way with his feet on the field.

“That all though was another time,” recalls the all-rounder who played at state and national levels.

YouTube Video

Born in September 9, 1941, Abid Ali lived in a different Hyderabad, one which has changed very much according to him.

He adds, “At that time there was a passion to teach kids. Sports and physical activity were actively encouraged then.”

It is during this golden age of sorts where he developed his flair for cricket. He would represent his country and then-state Andhra Pradesh while playing this very game.

A cricketer who would acquire a reputation for being adept with his feet, ball and bat, he also was a forward in hockey and football. Although the path to these national and state stages, where he would utilize his talents on a bigger stage, was not exactly easy.

His father, Syed Sardar Ali, died in 1956 during Ali’s late teenage years while his mother died six years earlier. Sardar Ali was an ASP in Hyderabad. As the trifurcation of the erstwhile Hyderabad state approached, there were plans to transfer him to Bangalore.

“My father said how will I take six kids to Bangalore? I then had to start working to supplement already meager household income,” he remembers.

They then moved out of their big house in Mallepally and then shifted to the Vallabhdas building, where people of different communities co-existed peacefully. He describes that building as one that symbolized the secularism of Hyderabad. This pluralistic ethos is somewhat intact today compared to the rest of the country.

He wanted to study further but circumstances were such that he instead worked his way into a job at State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH). Jayant Rao, a Vice President at SBH was forming a team.

The prowess that he showed there got these the state selectors to take notice. And in the Ranji tournaments, he won many accolades such as the Bahram-ud-Daula, Moin-ud-Daula, Ghulam Ali, Kishen Pershad, and League Tournament trophies.

He got a chance to play for India. Many city folk like Mayor Goswamy, Dastagir Qureshi, and Nuh Abbasi would encourage him to pursue this path. In the 1967, he joined the national team during the Australia-New Zealand tour.

As he talks about his career trajectory and things that have changed with his city (and its values), there has been one constant throughout the realm of cricket — nepotism.

“When state and national selectors are making their choices based on if somebody his a big shot’s son, how is real talent supposed to flourish?”

After playing against Pakistan at the international level, he returned to Mumbai. Seeing as how he played at the international level, he should have been a shoe-in for the zone team.

Yet, politics trumped merit.

However, Pataudi, Subramanium, and Prasanna vouched for him to ensure that he would play in the next zone match. “I was determined that the powers that be would be prompted to select me. The four wickets in four overs and two catches in leg slip forced the selectors to choose me.”

In 1980 Abid Ali left India where he coached in England and the United States. Yet, he still longs to coach the youth of his own state. After all, he has coached players in the UAE, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, England and the West Indies along with his storied career.

Plus, many other athletes received land and money for their contribution to the sport.

The then-Andhra Pradesh government did not grant him that. He hopes that the Telangana government will finally do so. Ali does not have any intention to go back to the United States despite the many advantages of living there — one of them being that corruption does not exist on a basic level like it does in India.

That too, no matter how much it has changed, home is after all home.

Hyderabad: Rumours were rife on Monday regarding reimposition of night curfew in Hyderabad. Some mischief mongers had posted part of an old video of a press conference addressed by chief minister Chandrashekhar Rao on social media.

The video spread like a wildfire. Chief Minister had earlier issued statement regarding strict imposition of night curfew and lockdown in which he had directed to close the markets by 6:00 p.m. Some social media users intentionally made the old video viral.

As soon as the video went viral, anxiety prevailed among the people and they became panicky. Several residents contacted police seeking clarification on the report.

It must be noted that keeping in view the spike in coronavirus cases in GHMC limits, Begum Bazaar traders have decided to close shops by 6:00 p.m. Though they have taken this decision on their own as precautionary measure but it is being said that police is forcing to shut down the shops earlier.

It must not be out of place to mention here that a few days ago rumours were rife regarding reimposition of lockdown in Hyderabad and Telangana which was denied by the chief secretary Somesh Kumar. After that rumours were spread regarding reimposition of nationwide lockdown, though Prime minister Narendra Modi through a video conference with chief minister Chandrashekhar Rao had clarified that lockdown will not be reimposed.

Some mischief mongers are troubling people by spreading rumours of lockdown and curfew on frequent intervals. Police is identifying social media users who are misleading public and bothering them by spreading such baseless information.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Wakf on Monday laid a foundation stone for the free graveyard space under the shrine of Dargah Baba Sharf Uddin. Nearly 16 acres of land have been provided by the Wakf Board.

The TS Wakf Board Chairman, Mohammed Saleem Qureshi along with the Khateeb of the Shahi Masjid — Bagh-e-Aam Hafez Ahsan Bin Mohammed Al-Hamoomi, Mufti Hassan Farooqui, and Wakf officials have laid the foundation stone and declared the land for free burials.

The Board’s Chairman, Mohammed Saleem Qureshi said, “Instructions have been given to all police stations and masjids in the state regarding this as well. After observing that the community has been facing difficulties for the burial in the city graveyard. Moreover, the board came to know that several graveyards were charging Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 20,000 for the burial. The board immediately passed the resolution for the land and laid the stone as a mark of declaration for the Wakf graveyard.”

He said that the Wakf board will sue land grabbers if they try to grab the land.

It may be mentioned that the board has taken this step after most of them were suffering for burial space and after a man was denied burial in Muslim graveyards over COVID-19 fears. That too, with his last rites being performed in a Hindu resting place in Hyderabad.
