Hyderabad: Demand for home tutors in Hyderabad increased due to lockdown amid coronavirus pandemic.

Schools in Hyderabad start online classes

It is reported that parents are looking for home tutors as schools in Hyderabad are left with no option but to start classes online.

Due to the rise in demand for home tutors, parents in Hyderabad are getting ready to pay Rs. 4000-7000 per month for three classes a week.

One of the tutors in Hyderabad claimed that parents are giving Rs. 8000 per month for clearing doubts of their two sons studying in classes VI and VII.

Increase in demand for home tutors in Hyderabad

Usually, parents think of home tutors in the month of October or November, however, in the present academic year, they are considering the option right from the starting of the academic year due to the uncertainties prevailing amid coronavirus pandemic.

Parents are hiring home tutors as they believe that their children are not able to understand topics clearly in online classes.

It is also reported that despite reduced incomes, parents are ready to pay 20-30 percent more than the normal tuition fees.

School teachers offering home tuitions

On the one hand, the demand for home tutors in Hyderabad increased, on the other, teachers of schools in the city are facing salary cuts due to low admissions, uncertainties over commencement of conventional classes etc.

Some of the school teachers have also started offering home tuition to earn income.

Hyderabad:  The century-old Osmania General Hospital has become synonym with bad service where patients are left to fend for themselves.

Even during one of the worst crisis in the history of Hyderabad, OGH is not able to provide required attention to COVID patients, most of whom belong to the poorer sections of the society.

Bad management

Siasat.com has found a case which illustrates how the suspected coronavirus patients are treated. Farhat Begum, 25, alleges that her mother Meher Unissa had not been given proper treatment in the hospital. Meher Unissa had been complaining of body ache and swollen legs; due to which she was brought to Osmania.

Nai-post ni Hyderabad Youth Courage noong Biyernes, Hunyo 19, 2020

According to the patient’s daughter, Meher Unnisa was bought to the hospital on Friday. She was complaining of swelling in legs and mild fever. A couple of hours after the patient was brought to the hospital the doctors carried out COVID tests.  They said that the patient should be admitted immediately. The course of treatment was only a bottle of glucose which was administered while the patient remained in the wheelchair.  She was told that beds were not available. Meanwhile, with no glucose stand a family member had to hold the bottle in hand.

Nai-post ni Hyderabad Youth Courage noong Linggo, Hunyo 21, 2020

Following the COVID tests and the information that it was positive a senior doctor on Sunday stated that the reports are negative. But she was asked to remain in the hospital. On Monday morning a group of junior doctors declared that patient was COVID positive.

Women declared dead

Things went miserably wrong when the patient was declared dead in the hospital records.  The same information was given to the Afzal Gunj Police Station.

“My mother was declared dead in spite of the fact that I was right next to her and she was breathing well. The police were constantly calling us informing that our mother has died of COVID and they need to take her body. When I refused and informed that she is alive and right in front of me they hung up the phone, ” said Farhat Begum.

Later, as the hospital was alerted they took the charge of the paitent and now she is under treatment.

Empower ourselves: Zafar Mahmood

$

New Delhi: The president of Zakat Foundation of India, Zafar Mahmood, in a webinar held on 14 June 2020 gave a PowerPoint presentation for young boys and girls on the topic ‘Empower Ourselves.’

In his presentation he tried to motivate the young generation and to create awareness for regarding their duties and responsibilities for the nation and for the whole humanity in the light of Qur’an and Indian constitution.

Mr. Mahmood started his talk by reciting the first few verses from the first chapter of the Holy Qur’an. Then he quoted a Persian couplet of Allama Iqbal, whose translations in English goes like this:

O noble soul, do you know what it is to live
It is to take your share of the duty of God
He said, the webinar is to prepare the young generation that how could they shape the world in a gentle way.

He insisted the youth to learn the script [Arabic] of the Holy Qur’an and understand God’s message. He then gave the example of the two names of Allah from the first chapter of the Qur’an:  Rahman and Raheem. He said, we read the Qur’an but we do not understand its meaning. God has used these names for Himself, both the names mean kindness. But we fail to find the subtle difference between them.

He says, we can only understand the message of God if we read the commentary (tafseer of the Qur’an). It is obligatory to understand the meaning of the Qur’an
and the message that God wants to convey to us.  Mr. Mahmood quoted a verse from the Qur’an, where God reveals the purpose of the creation of humanity:
“To test as to who amongst you is more righteous.” [Surah Hud:7]. All the commentators and transcribers have interpreted this verse as a person’s willingness to come forward to help another person, to make the other person’s life more easy for him. So, that is the purpose of creation of humanity.

Many of us know about kun fa yakun (be, and it is). When God decides that something should happen, he says ‘Kun faya Kun’. This indicates the power of the Creator. God says that each human being is supposed to take in some of the divine qualities so they should also have the power and absorb themselves in the power of creation.
He quoted another couplet of Allama Iqbal:
apni duniya aap paida kar agar Zindon mein hai
Sirr e Adam hai, Zameer e Kun fa yakoon hai zindangi

If you consider yourself to be a really living person, create a world by yourself. Such proactivity is the essence of human life, which must manifest Godly quality of creation. Mr. Mahmood said that this is the message of the programme.

When prophet Moses (Musa alaih Salam) invoked Allah to create water for his thirsty tribes, Allah could have created water immediately. Instead, he asked Moses to hit his staff on the rock; 12 streams of water gushed out.  So, God wanted to convey the message that He wants human beings to utilize whatever physical capacity they have, and pray to Allah, only then, He would be pleased to accept the prayers.

Mr. Mahmood quoted Allama Iqbal’s couplet which he wrote in the light of the above incident of Moosa.

Hazaar chashme tere sang-e-rah se phootay
Khudi mein doob kar zarb-e-kaleem paida kar.

Create yourself in such a manifestation with determination
That the divine from the God’s side and grace start coming to you continuously

Mr. Mahmood asked the boys and girls to download the constitution application from play store and refer to it and other articles frequently, as we all love India and its constitution.

YouTube Video

Speaking about the post corona situation, he says there is a lot of change in the world. The previous businesses have gone down and new businesses are taking place. Therefore, the generation has to update their skills and has to learn the trades that would be in demand. He advised the new generation that they should first get rid of self-pride. Secondly, they should not waste precious time and the last the advice he gave is that every individual has to re-orient himself or herself.

He advises them to ponder over the post corona changes and make the required adjustments. Everybody has to use their resources and should do their own job themselves. He gave the example of migrant workers who went back to their places without food and other resources. He said, corona has taught us a lesson of using our resources to help others. This is where the Qur’anic verse applies here:
“To test as to who amongst you is more righteous.” [11:7]

Post corona downturn

Mr. Mahmood gave an example of the business fields that have been badly impacted by the spread of corona. Businesses like; building construction, travel & conveyance, site seeing & hotels, just to name a few.

Upswing

The businesses that will improve or would be in demand in post corona period would be environmental cleanliness, substitute energy, self-employment (learning trades through which you can learn to earn), software development, online tuition and training and many more.

Mr. Mahmood brainstormed the watchers by displaying a few slides of beautiful landscapes and asked the attendees to name what they had seen. He himself gave a name, “beautiful world”. He then showed another set of photographs where children were enjoying life. He asked them to give these photographs also a name and he himself named it “enjoyment of life”. He told that the children who took part in the webinar are the blessed one as they are enjoying the webinar and learning something from the comfort of their home. Then, he showed another picture of a downtrodden minor banjara girl who was breaking stones for her livelihood. He posed a question “but what about this girl?” he displayed some more pictures of disabled boys, an old farmer in his dried-up field and asked the girls and boys to think about them too. He said the message is “You can change your world and their world”. He said this is the scheme of God and he has selected you to change your world and also their world. He informed the youth that there is a bad news; that time is running fast but the good news is that they are the pilot.

He quoted Surah Al-Asr from the Qur’an where God swears in the name of fast turning time, saying every human being is in a loss except those who have faith in God and who do good deeds. So that is the importance of good deeds in the human life.

Mr. Mahmood then referred to the article 16 (1) of India which says that there shall be equality of opportunity for all citizens in matters relating to employment or appointment to any office under the State.

He further added that there are two types of thoughts. One is, “I am insignificant; I can’t do much”. But, there is another thought that “the entire world is hidden in my eyes and I can put the entire world behind myself and win the world”. He gave those two options to the boys and girls to choose from. He was sure that they would definitely chose the second one. He said, the excuse of Destiny is for the losers, it is just a stupid defense to wait for things to happen instead of making them happen. He asserted fate can be changed, it just needs perseverance.

He further added, nuclear family is very important for us but it is not our achievement, it is just the first orbit. There are many other orbits like extended family, neighbourhood, society, region, province, nation, faith, community and the world. So, every one of us has a vision that how we want to see the world in future by doing something or not by doing something.

He said to the boys and girls that they are the future of India. He quoted a very beautiful verse from the Qur’an:

‘Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves [13:11].

According to Mr. Mahmood, due to our very low presence in governance of our nation, we are lagging behind in the social, economic and educational areas.

He explained the terminology of hierarchy and bureaucracy with the help of slides and said a nation is not ruled by a president or prime minister or governor. But 90% of policy formulation, legislation, decision making, administration is done by the bureaucracy or civil service.

He then quoted one more verse from the Qur’an:
‘so when I have proportioned him and breathed into him [human being] of My soul…’ [38:72].

Therefore, Allah expects that each one of us should take in some of his qualities including the quality of creation.

He said Sir Syed Ahmed Khan established Mohammedan Civil Services Fund Association which later became Aligarh Muslim University. He also established Mohammedan Civil Services Fund Association and there were 500 members. Each member used to give two rupees and Sir Syed used that money for sending 15 boys for writing the Indian Civil Services examination. Therefore, the target is the body of the government which conducts the competitive examination for entry into government services and also at the international level, mentioned in the constitution is the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).  That is how Syed Akbaruddin became a permanent representative in the United Nations. That is how Aussaf Sayeed became India’s ambassador to many countries that is how so many boys and girls every year are received by the president, vice president and prime minister. So, that is the reason why Zakat Foundation of India established in 2008 as Sir Syed’s coaching and guidance centre for civil services. About 123 boys and girls so far in the last decade, have joined various services in the IAS, IFS, IPS and many other services. One such person is Mohammed Shahid Aslam of Jharkand who has just finished his tenure as Deputy Counsel General of India in Saudi Arabia and returned to join External Affairs Ministry.

Mr. Mahmood encouraged the boys and girls by showing the slide of ‘Satyamev jayete’ and said that seal belonged to them and wherever they sign, this seal should be inscribed. That is why they have to prepared ourselves for that.
He gave an example of Zainab Sayeed of West Bengal, who in spite of being in hijab has obtained highest marks in UPSC; 220 out of 275 (80%). By saying this, he tried to prove that there is no discrimination.

At the end, he questioned the boys and girls “if they can do; why not you?”

GHMC to stop managing COVID-19 containment clusters in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is all set to stop managing COVID-19 containment clusters in Hyderabad.

Reportedly GHMC is frustrated as the state health department is not providing updated information on newly COVID-19 patients or their whereabouts in the city.

Deccan Chronicle has quoted a senior GHMC official as saying “At first, data sharing was delayed by two days. This has now grown to a week. We are still operating containment areas based on data shared by the health department last week.”

Peeved with the Telangana health department, the GHMC is in no mood to take up fresh containment activities. In the last two days, it has reduced the house clusters by 50 per cent, cutting down the number from 1100 to 626.

According to the GHMC officials, the corporation is poised to dismantle all containment clusters. That effectively means that all primary and secondary contacts of a Covid-19 patient “should take care of themselves.”

All containment clusters in the Serilingampally zone have already been removed despite it having 35 active cases. GHMC maintained 79 house clusters in the LB Nagar zone which has 80 active cases, 345 house clusters in the Charminar zone which has 692 active cases, 31 house clusters in the Khairiatabad zone which has 39 active cases, 120 house clusters in Secunderabad zone which has 194 active cases and 51 house clusters in Kukatpally zone which has 131 actives cases.

According to sources, as the management of containment zones was increasingly becoming difficult, workers deployed on COVID-19 duties have been asked to revert to their normal duties, such as tax collection, tree plantation, demolition of dilapidated buildings, etc. Similarly all engineering officials have been asked to focus on roads and other infrastructure projects and expedite them.

Hyderabad: “As per government guidelines, the COVID-19 positive cases are being allowed to be in home isolation,” said the GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar today.

The Commissioner further said that the GHMC Police and health department are coordinating the implementation of these guidelines. About 2,192 positive cases are in home isolation.

Previously barricading which was made visible to the pubic was done at containment areas and at apartments.

At present, containment is limited to the particular isolation home only. The health condition of those in home isolations is being monitored via the Control Room’s telephone.

In case of emergency, the isolated people can be easily shifted to hospital for treatment. Although previously it was difficult due to the barricading in the area that caused delays in shifting the person to the hospital.

Therefore on June 23, about 17 home-isolated folks were shifted to the hospital in time for treatment on an emergency basis. “An emergency number is given to those in isolation if an emergency arises,” said the Commissioner.

Hyderabad: TIMS ready to serve COVID-19 patients within 4 days

Hyderabad: Even as the COVID cases are on the rise in Telangana, State Health Minister Eatala Rajender on Wednesday said that the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) is ready to serve COVID-19 patients at Hyderabad as it is equipped with all the latest technologies.

He informed that state will own a machine which will test more than 4000 tests in a day. Another machine will be purchased by July, he said. Thus the state can test 10,000 corona tests daily by July.

Health minister inspected TIMS on Wednesday, he said, “TIMS Gachibowli is ready with all the latest technologies. TIMS is making doctors available in the same manner as Chandigarh’s PG College has done. There are 1,224 beds available in TIMS whereas 1,000 beds have oxygen facility and 50 have ventilator facilities. 15 floors are ready. In two days, we are recruiting staff.” He further informed that the patients here will also be provided with food.

“In a very short time, we have done so much development in the health sector. We are gaining public trust by providing treatment to thousands of people. It is unfair to insult the people who are staying with coronavirus patients and treating them. People with no responsibility are spreading rumours. The public should not believe it,” he added.

The minister said that only the people having COVID-19 symptoms should go for tests.

“We have the capacity of treating how many patients are available. Do not spend your money by going to private hospitals,” he said.

“If your neighbour is affected with coronavirus, do not panic. It will not spread to you. Irresponsible people are creating confusion. I request media to build strength amongst the public. We have reached the capacity of testing 6,600 people. Including private diagnostics, we have reached the level of testing 10,000 people per day. Pramod Chaturvedi

Hyderabad: Family members of many COVID-19 patients at Gandhi Hospital, who have been discharged by authorities, are refusing to take them back home.

Dr Prabhakar Rao, Nodal Officer, Gandhi Hospital, said there are “over 50 patients including men and women who tested positive for COVID-19” and underwent treatment at the hospital over last 10- 15 days.

“All of them are healthy and have no symptoms. We have discharged them and declared them fit for home quarantine. But their family members are refusing to take them to their residences,” he said.

He said many from among these 50 patients have waited outside the hospital for hours. “When no one from their families came to take them, we re-admitted them back to the hospital and provide them beds to stay. There are two age groups in these patients,” Dr Rao added.

He said they have kept the group in the higher age bracket in Gandhi Hospital and the other group of people aged around 50 years has been shifted to Nature Cure Hospital. “Their families are also asking us to do testing to make sure that they are negative. In this critical situation doing tests repeatedly is not possible,” he said.

Dr Rao cited the case of a 93-year-old COVID-19 positive woman, who was admitted to Gandhi Hospital 15 days ago and is now fine and fit to get discharged from the hospital. He said her family members are not coming forward to take her to their residence and she is in hospital.

In another case, an 85-year-old-person, who tested positive and got admitted to Gandhi Hospital 16 days ago, is now having no symptoms and is fit for home quarantine.
“But his family members are refusing to take him to their residence and are demanding a re-test, Dr Rao said.

Gandhi Hospital is the designated nodal centre in Telangana to treat COVID-19 cases.

Hyderabad: In view of the rapid increase of COVID cases & fatalities in the GHMC limits and particularly the south and western parts of the city post unlock-1, we as a social service & grass-root level advocacy group dealing in public health, hereby request you to impose immediate curfew in south and west of the city for the next 3-4 weeks at least, for the following reasons:

  • The spread of the disease is rampant, while 85% plus cases are reporting asymptomatic with mild disease but 15% or so are symptomatic requiring hospitalization and 5% within this are turning critical.
  • A large section of suspected cases are not getting tested, fear going to Govt Hospitals and cannot afford expensive pvt health care.
  • Hence are seeking treatment from local clinics/physicians and are being taken to hospitals in the last minute in critical conditions.
  • Shortness of breadth (SOB) with falling Oxygen levels (desaturation) is the common complaint.
  • 1 in 3 above 45 years in old city has single or more than one morbidity like diabetes, hypertension etc making them highly vulnerable group.
  • As a result the case fatalities are higher than what is being made official bcoz they are not tested for SAR-COV2
  • Presently pvt hospitals treating covid are running full capacity & are out of bound for middle class and weaker sections
  • For those who can afford, there is no information publicly available through a Control Room/Helpline system to inform public about availability. Hundreds of patients are scouting for hospital beds in pvt sector and losing precious time.
  • Gandhi Hospital the nodal centre is only taking positive patients and emergency cases are running from pillar to post.
  • Due to ramp up in testing across general population the waiting time for COVID results has further increased-delay in results is causing delay in admission and treatment.
  • For those who are seeking home isolation care there is acute shortage of Oxygen supplies in the city.

Therefore till you ramp up beds with central line oxygen supplies in Govt Hospitals and capacity is further enhanced in pvt hospitals mainly in old city area by adding more middle level pvt hospitals, we request you to impose 24 hours curfew in the above said zones immediately.

NGO wants lockdown reimposed in areas with growing corona cases

Hyderabad: There has been a rapid increase of COVID-19 cases and fatalities in the GHMC limits, particularly in the South Zone and western parts of the city post unlock 1.0. Hence, the city-based NGO Helping Hand Foundation (HHF), a public health NGO and advocacy group, appealed to KCR to impose an immediate curfew in Old City and the west zone for a minimum of three to four weeks.

Meanwhile, according to the state public health and family welfare department, on 24 June 719 fresh cases and five deaths were reported in the GHMC limits. With this, the Telangana State has till now reported 10, 444 positive cases, 5, 858 active cases and 225 have succumbed due to COVID-19.

According to the reports, the GHMC Charminar Zone (South Zone) reported more than 630 COVID-19 positive cases. Around 567 cases are active and 516 are containment houses.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a GHMC official said, “The Charminar circle 9 has recorded a large number of cases around 187 positive cases and 142 containment homes while Malakpet circle 6 remains with 143 cases and 123 containment homes”.

While other circles in the South Zone has fewer cases, Santosh Nagar circle-6 has 95 positive cases and 76 containment houses, and Falaknuma circle-10 remains with 89 cases plus containment houses. The Chandrayangutta circle-8 has reported 72 cases and 46 containment houses, while the Rajendranagar circle-11 has reported 44 cases and 40 containment houses.

Moreover, the spread of the disease is rampant while 85 per cent plus cases are asymptomatic with mild diseases but 15 per cent are symptomatic requiring hospitalization. Though, five per cent within this are turning critical. A large section of suspected cases are not getting tested, fearing a trip to government hospitals. They cannot afford expensive private health care.

Hence, they are seeking treatment from local clinics as well as physicians and are being taken to hospitals in the last minute as they are in critical conditions.

Lack of facilities

Shortness of breadth as well as falling oxygen levels (desaturation) is the common complaint. One in three above the age of 45 years in Old City has one or more of these ailments: diabetes, hypertension, and etc. This makes them a highly vulnerable group.

“As a result of these cases, fatalities are higher than what is being made official because they are not being tested for SAR-COV2. Presently, private hospitals treating COVID-19 are running full capacity and are inaccessible to middle class and weaker sections,” said Mr. Mujtaba Hasan Askari of HHF.

He also stated that there is no information publicly available through a Control Room/Helpline system to inform the public about availability. Hundreds of patients are scouting for hospital beds in the private sector and are losing precious time. Gandhi Hospital’s nodal centre is only taking positive patients and emergency cases.

Due to a ramp up in testing across general population, the waiting time for results is delaying admission and treatment. For those who are in home isolation care, there is an acute shortage of oxygen supply in the city.

The NGO further appealed to the state government to ramp up beds with central line oxygen supplies in government hospitals and capacity mainly in the Old City area to impose a 24 hour curfew in those zones.

HHF sent a repression letter to the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary and requested those with authority and influence to get the government to take notice of this.
