Sudhakar Reddy

Hyderabad:  CPI leader S Sudhakar Reddy severely criticized the Central Government’s agriculture bills and alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had enacted these bills to help his friends ‘Adanis’ and ‘Ambanis’.  He expressed these views while addressing 96th Agriculture Day in Maqdoom House in the presence of CPI Telangana Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy, P Venkat Reddy, a former member of Rajya Sabha Aziz Pasha and other prominent leaders of the party.

S Sudhakar Reddy described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘Chowkidar’ of the corporate capitalists.  He said that the CPI is the second party in the country after congress which has a long history of service to the people.  The party began its movement from the struggle of the peasants.  He said, “as long as there are tears in the eyes of the peasants the CPI and other communist parties shall continue to exist.”

“Winning or losing elections is the part of the parliament democracy.  The CPI condemns the Central Government’s agriculture bills and shall continue its protests till these bills are withdrawn, Reddy said.

He further said, “Lakhs of farmers with 80 thousand trucks are protesting against the government’s agriculture bills.  The Central Government had failed to address the farmer’s issues.  The government is busy in hurling accusations against the protesting farmers to sabotage their protest.  The Government is describing them as fake farmers or Khalistani terrorists and trying to link them to Pakistan or China and his party condemns such attempts by the government to defame the farmer’s protest.  CPI fully support the farmer’s protest in the country.”

Hyderabad: Another male spotted deer was found dead on University of Hyderabad campus on Sunday, the second in less than a week.

Stray dogs chased two deer near the shooting range. “One of the deer tried to jump the wall to escape but hit the wall. The other deer escaped to the wooded area in the campus,” said PhD scholar and wildlife activist Rohit Kumar Bondugula.

This is the second incident of feral dogs killing deer on the campus. Earlier on December 22, a spotted deer was found dead.

The activist alleged that there is no protection to the state animal of Telangana. He said that the Forest Department and the university have utterly failed to protect the animals.

“There is a serious threat to the wildlife in the campus. If incidents continue at this alarming rate, the campus will no longer have any wildlife,” he said.

A male spotted deer was found dead near under-construction site of S.N. School on the campus on December 22. It was attacked by feral dogs.

Bondugula said that the excessive deforestation in campus leading to loss of habitat for wildlife. Loss of green cover is forcing animals to come in to open areas. As a result they are becoming prey in feral dog attacks and poaching, he said.

The activist demanded measures to control the growing population of dogs. He said there was need to sterilise the stray dogs and raise the height of the boundary walls to prevent feral dogs from entering the campus.

“We have witnessed several deaths of spotted deer, peafowl, wild boars, wild hares, monitor lizards, mongoose etc,” he said.

Rohit had earlier voiced concern over the threat to the biodiversity on the campus due to series of fire accidents

Many wild animals believed to have perished in two fires in May. The campus witnesses 6-7 fires every year.

The university campus spread over 2,500-3,000 acres, is home to several rare species of bird and wild animals like spotted deer, wild boar, monitor lizard and Asian palm civet.

Hyderabad: Private Auto Financiers have started seizing auto rickshaws once again disregarding their promise made before the Home Minister that they would not seize the autos upto March, 21 next year.

Auto Drivers association demanded the state Government to arrest the Private Auto Financiers who are harassing them under P.D. Act and put them in jail for one year.

Telangana Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee today regretted that Private Auto Financiers had started seizing auto rikshaws once again disregarding their promise made before the Home Minister Mohd. Mahmood Ali last month that they would not seize the autos upto March, 21 next year for default of installment payments, in view of the lockdown, lack of business and flash floods difficulties.

Mohd. Amanullah Khan, the Convenor of the committee while addressing a press conference at N.S.S. News Centre in Hyderguda said that the Auto Drivers were happy to note when they came to know that the Home Minister had directed the Private Auto Financiers not to seize autos till March 21 next year for default of monthly installments.

However, he said that the Auto Drivers and Owners were shocked and surprised to know that the Private Financiers had started seizing the autos once again through their hired goondas for the default of regular loan repayments.

He warned that if the Private Auto Financiers did not return the original Auto R.Cs and Permits kept with them forcibly and illegally at the time of finance agreement within a fortnight, The Committee would organize a fast-unto-death program, demanding their immediate return.

He alleged that the Private Auto Financiers by keeping the R.Cs and Permits with them were selling the Autos to one person to another by seizing the Autos without the knowledge and permission of the registered owner.

The committee leaders K.Laxmi Narsaiah, Diamond Salim, M.A.Qadir, J.Vamshi Krishna, Mohd. Qadar, Mohd. Azeemuddin, Robin, Mohd. Lathief, Farooq also participated in the Press Conference.

Telangana not to set up agriculture purchase centres in villages from next year

$

Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Sunday decided not to set up purchase centres in villages to buy agriculture produce from farmers, saying it was one time facility provided on humanitarian grounds during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The farmers will have to bring their produce to agriculture markets. However, the system will be streamlined by issuing tokens to ensure that all farmers don’t turn up at the market on the same day.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday.

The participants in the meeting observed that due to the pandemic, the government had set up purchasing centres in the village to ensure that farmers did not suffer losses.

“It is not possible to do the same thing every time. The government is not a business organisation or a trader. It is not a rice miller or a dal miller. Sale and purchase is not the responsibility of government. It is not possible to set up purchase centres in the villages from next year onwards. The new farm laws being implemented in the country allowed the farmers to sell their crop anywhere. Hence, the state government need not set purchase centres in the villages,” they said.

The officials said that even since the Telangana was formed, the government incurred heavy losses due to purchase of various crops. The government so far incurred losses to the tune of Rs 7,500 crore due to the purchase of paddy, sorghum, maize, redgram, Bengal gram and sunflower. Though the government had purchased these agriculture produce by paying the Minimum Support Price (MSP), it had to sell them at the lower prices in the market, as there was no demand for these crops.

The Chief Minister announced that all the farmers in the state would be given financial assistance under Rythu Bandhu from Monday. He stated that Rs 7,515 crore financial assistance is given to 1.52 crore acres of the cultivated land of 61.49 lakh farmers at the rate of Rs 5,000 per acre for the 2020 summer season. The CM has instructed the officials concerned to ensure that every farmer get the assistance in his bank account directly for each acre.

The Chief Minister also directed agriculture officers to ensure effective implementation of Rythu Bhima scheme. When the Rythu Bhima scheme started Rs 630 crore was paid as the installment but many farmers have registered their land among their family members so that they are all covered by the Rythu Bhima policy. Hence the number swelled and the premium doubled. This year’s installment is Rs 1,144 crore but the government decided to continue the scheme.

Rao also directed the officials to continue 24×7 free power supply and ensure that the farmers get quality seed, fertilisers, and pesticides.

Kerala secure first win of the season, beat Hyderabad 2-0

Bambolim (Goa), Dec 27 : Kerala Blasters dished out a complete performance as they edged Hyderabad 2-0 to secure their first win of the 2020/21 Indian Super League (ISL) season at the GMC Stadium on Sunday.

Abdul Hakku’s header in the 29th minute put Kerala ahead in the first half before Jordan Murray sealed three points for Kibu Vicuna’s side in the 88th minute.

Vicuna rang in five changes to the side that drew against SC East Bengal while Hyderabad made two changes with Liston Colaco returning to the starting eleven.

Both sides created chances in the first half but it was Kerala who headed into the break with a lead.

Kerala started on a bright note and had a chance to break the deadlock early on when an error from Asish Rai got Hyderabad in trouble. Sahal pounced on Rai’s poor touch and squared the ball but Odei Onaindia thwarted the danger with a vital tackle.

Hyderabad too created a few half-chances with Aridane Santana failing to take them. Both sides fought neck-and-neck but Kerala grabbed the opener just before the half-hour mark through a set-piece. They won a corner and Facundo Pereyra whipped an inch-perfect cross for Hakku, who bagged his first ISL goal through a pin-point header.

Hyderabad rallied back after conceding, pushing hard for the equaliser and came close before the end of the first half after some good build-up play. Rai squared the ball for Santana in the box but the latter fluffed his lines and failed to get his shot on target.

Kerala piled the pressure on Hyderabad after the change of ends, and carved out great opportunities to double their tally before the hour mark. The first chance arrived when Pereyra threaded in a ball for Sahal in the box. He created space and only had the keeper to beat but his mishit found the side netting.

Minutes later, Subrata Pal produced a top-notch save after diving full-stretch to keep Rahul KP’s deflected shot out for a corner.

Hyderabad threw the kitchen sink in the dying minutes but just like the first half, failed to convert their chances. The best opportunity fell to Halicharan Narzary in the 80th minute, but he miscued his shot. Receiving the ball on the left, the winger cut inside looking to find the far corner but saw his effort sail over the bar.

However, their hopes of making any comeback were swept away when Murray put the game to bed late on. Substitute Adil Khan failed to deal with a cross in the box and it fell to Murray, who made no mistake and placed his shot in the bottom corner.

Activists fume as GHMC neglects restoration of historic Katora Houz

$

Hyderabad: Heritage lovers and activists were up in arms against the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) as the civic body continues to delay the restoration process of the 450-year-old wall of the Katora Houz at Golconda Fort.

The old retaining boundary wall of Katora Houz, the magnificent tank of the ancient Golconda Qila (fort) here, collapsed in the heavy rains that caused floods in October. Heritage activists allege that the tardy maintenance has resulted in the collapsed wall of Katora Houz.

Worried residents of Golconda Qila have called upon the Archeological Survey India (ASI) and the state government, the activists’ groups and residents urging the ASI to renovate the tank.

In 2019, the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) in collaboration with the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation Limited (TTDCL) and GHMC decided to renovate and develop Katora Houz as a tourist spot. Though the tank was cleaned several times previously, proper development or restoration works have not been taken by any of the state authority, as Katora Houz waits for a new life.

Speaking to siasat.com, Anuradha Reddy, convener of the INTACH Hyderabad Chapter said that it is the responsibility of ASI to preserve, renovate and maintain the heritage tank. “The four-acre lake will be soon illegally grabbed. Some of them are parking their vehicles in front of it and dumping waste into it already,” she lamented.

Dilapidated walls running to 350 metres on the Katora Houz caved in during the city witnessed heavy rains with floods.

“In November, a proposal has been sent to the Director-General office of ASI after the approval from the higher authorities the restoration works will be taken up,” said Naveen Kumar of ASI, Hyderabad.

The shallow four-acre lake has stone and limestone mortar flooring.

It is said that the Katora Houz was once filled with rose water for Ibrahim Qutb Shah, who visited the place and enjoyed its ambience. However, in stark contrast now, thanks to the apathy of the citizens and the officialdom, one-kilometre radius of the lake is filled with murky water and are also covered with water hyacinth and weed.

During the Qutb Shahi period, the Katora Houz used to get water from dedicated underground pipes connected to the Talaab-e-Durg, now known as Durgam Cheruvu. Now, sewage from nearby localities is also discharged into the tank and with its boundary walls collapse the tank is turning into a dumping yard with people urinating near it, which is supposed to be a protected heritage structure. It is said that the lake also came to the rescue of people inside the Golconda Fort in 1687, when Abul Hassan, the last Qutb Shahi king was fighting a war with the forces of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb before they managed to get into the fort.

The Katora Houz (Persian: well) is part of a network to store and transport water inside the massive fortress. It was one of the water bodies that helped the last Qutb Shahi king, Abul Hasan, survive an eight-month siege enforced by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in 1687.

Over the past few years, sewage from the surrounding areas is being let into the lake through a 609-mm pipeline.

Hyderabad: 24-year-old Pratyusha, a domestic violence victim who was adopted by Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in 2015, on Monday tied knot to city-based techie Charan Reddy in an intimate ceremony. They were married at a church in Patigadda village near Shadnagar in Rangareddy district.

Pratyusha graduated in nursing last year and worked as a nurse at a private hospital in the city. She now has got a job in state-run Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

The marriage was attended by several politicians including the minister for women development and child welfare Satyavathi Rathod, Shadnagar MLA Anjaiah Yadav, Zilla Parishad vice-chairman Ganesh, commissioner of women development Divya Devarajan and several officials of the department.

KCR, however, gave a miss to the ‘adopted’ daughter’s wedding but is known to have personally inquired about arrangements. Earlier on Sunday, KCR’s wife Shoba has exhorted her to lead a happy life.
