Hyderabad: Cognizant, currently the second-largest IT employer in Telangana, will lay the foundation stone for its new 10 lakh square feet campus on Wednesday, August 14.

The new campus, which is expected to create 15,000 jobs, will focus on advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), digital engineering, and cloud solutions.

The company’s decision to begin work on expanding its footprint in Hyderabad comes less than 10 days after an agreement was signed with the State government following a meeting between Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and IT and Industries Minister Sridhar Babu with Cognizant CEO S. Ravikumar in New Jersey, U.S.

According to a report by The Hindu, Reddy, who is scheduled to return to Hyderabad on Wednesday morning after visits to the U.S. and South Korea, will participate in the foundation stone-laying ceremony, in which Ravikumar will also be present, the CMO said.

Cognizant was established in Chennai in 1994, and since then, the firm has grown globally. It began operations in Hyderabad in 2002 and now has five campuses in the IT corridor. In the past two years, the company has provided jobs to 7,500 people from 34 different educational institutions in the State. IT exports by the company from the State in the last financial year totaled Rs 7,725 crore.

Following the August 5 meeting in which the expansion was announced, the Chief Minister, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said, “My team and I had a super successful meeting with the Cognizant team, in which the global IT major selected Hyderabad as the site for expansion and building the largest capacity center outside the U.S. in Telangana. The new facility will create over 15,000 jobs.”

The firm has also agreed to consider his suggestion to explore other tier-2 cities in Telangana for additional capacity ramp-up. The foundation for the agreement was laid by him, Sridhar Babu, and officials in Davos, Switzerland, earlier this year, he said.

Cybercrime cases spike in 2023, victims lose Rs 232.34 cr in Cyberabad

Hyderabad: Cyberabad Commissioner of Police Avinash Mohanty has called on principals of all educational institutions to take proactive measures to prevent ragging on their campuses.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Commissioner Mohanty highlighted that any student found guilty and imprisoned under Section 4 of the Telangana Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997, will face immediate dismissal from their educational institution. Additionally, if the imprisonment exceeds six months, the convicted student will be barred from enrolling in any other educational institution.

As the new academic year begins, students across various institutions are starting a journey filled with hope, aspirations, and opportunities. Unfortunately, in some cases, senior students may engage in abusive or humiliating behavior towards new students under the guise of ragging.

To combat this issue, Commissioner Mohanty urged educational institutions to establish Anti-Ragging Committees. These committees should include the principal, professors, wardens, parents, and students, and work closely with student union leaders to maintain a ragging-free environment. Additionally, institutions are encouraged to prominently display posters outlining anti-ragging laws around their campuses.

The Cyberabad Police are actively conducting awareness programs in various educational institutions to eliminate the social evil of ragging. For any assistance or to report incidents of ragging, individuals are advised to contact the nearest police station or dial 100.

HC halts MLC's swearing-in ceremony of Kodandaram and Amer

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has issued notices to both state and Central authorities in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the exorbitant fees charged by private unaided schools.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice J Sreenivas Rao, was hearing a PIL filed by Hyderabad resident Keethineedi Akhil Sri Guru Teja. The court directed the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Department of School Education to respond within four weeks.

The PIL accuses both the Union and state governments of failing to regulate private unaided schools, which allegedly charge exorbitant fees due to a lack of inspections by District Education Officers (DEOs).

The petitioner claims that the state government’s Government Order No. 1 Education, issued on January 1, 1994, outlining the fee structure for such schools, is not being enforced.

Additionally, out of 11,501 private schools in the state, only 50 have submitted their annual administration reports to the School Education Department, according to the PIL.

In addition to these concerns, the petitioner has requested that the court direct the state and Union governments to establish a committee to regulate fees in private schools.

The court has adjourned the matter for four weeks to allow the respondents time to file their counter affidavits.

So far, the L&T department has not released a statement on the issue of parking at the metro stations across Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: Motorists commuting on the Ghansi Bazaar road behind the Quli Qutb Shah Stadium Road in the Old City of Hyderabad are facing problems due to accumulation of water on the road.

A cess pool of water has formed on the road in front of Palki Designer Studio for some days causing a lot of problems for the motorists. The vehicles wade through water to cross the road connecting High Court with Ghansi Bazaar localities.

“We are facing problems due to stagnated water on the road. The road under the water is uneven and many people are falling down while driving,” complained Mahesh Agarwal, a local resident.

Locals stated that the problem persisted since the civic authorities dug up the road for some works and the surface became uneven. “Due to the absence of a proper channel for the water to flow down their accumulation of the water. Unless a channel is created for water to flow down the problem will persist,” informed a local businessman from the Old City.

The problem aggravates when it rains and the road converts into a lake. “People avoid using the route for fear of falling down in the water,” said Hritesh, a local resident.

Locals also said they want authorities to immediately take up rectification works of the road so provide them a comfortable and safe ride.

Hyderabad Cognizant to hire 4000 annually with new Kokapet campus

Hyderabad: Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy inaugurated Cognizant’s new campus at 10 lakh square feet on Wednesday, August 14.

During the inauguration ceremony, the chief minister announced that 4000 students from engineering colleges in Hyderabad will be hired at the new Cognizant campus annually.

The new campus, which is expected to create at least 15,000 jobs, will focus on advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), digital engineering, and cloud solutions.

“My vision is to make Telangana one trillion dollar economy in 10 years,” said Revanth Reddy. The chief minister also stressed on his plans to develop the city around the airport. “Hyderabad will be divided into three parts, urban, semi-urban and rural,” added Reddy.

The company’s decision to begin work on expanding its footprint in Hyderabad comes less than 10 days after an agreement was signed with the state government following a meeting between chief minister A Revanth Reddy and IT and industries minister Sridhar Babu with Cognizant CEO S Ravikumar in New Jersey, US.

With Kokapet campus, Hyderabad to host Cognizant’s largest hub globally

Cognizant was established in Chennai in 1994, and since then, the firm has grown globally. It began operations in Hyderabad in 2002 and now has five campuses in the IT corridor.

Cognizant is currently the second-largest IT employer in Telangana, and with this branch, Hyderabad is set to become the conglomerate’s largest centre globally, reported Money Control.

While workforce in Chennai currently stands at around 55,000 to 56,000 employees, Hyderabad’s employee count at Cognizant has surpassed 57,000 and is growing at a faster pace, partly due to the city’s larger business process outsourcing (BPO) operations, stated the Money Control report.

In the past two years, the company has provided jobs to 7,500 people from 34 different educational institutions in the state. IT exports by the company from the state in the last financial year totalled Rs 7,725 crore.

Hyderabad social organisations protest Waqf Amendment Bill 2024

Opposition vows to oppose any bill to amend Waqf Act

Hyderabad: Several Muslim social organizations in the city protested against the ‘Waqf Amendment Bill 2024’ on Wednesday, August 14.

Muslim United Federation, Minority Developmental Society, Jamiat-e-Alhadees, All India Sufi Ulema Council, Awaaz, Majlis Bachao Tehreek, MPJ, Muslim United Federation, Minority Development Society and other organizations participated in the protest.

Maulana Sufi Khairuddin Quadri, president of All India Sufi Ulema Council, said the Bill was drafted with the purpose of damaging the Muslim wealth and weakening the community financially. He appealed to all secular parties and organizations to come out and protest.

“Will the government take the Muslims on board of the committees of temples? They cannot do it. The government intends to take away the Muslim properties by introducing the bill,” said Maulana Quadri.

He said the government should first concentrate on the endowment properties. Maulana Quadri said the Muslim community will not keep quiet if the government goes ahead with its plans.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has also opposed the introduction of the Waqf Board Amendment Bill 2024 in the Lok Sabha.

“I oppose the introduction of the Waqf Amendment Bill because this house is not competent to make these amendments. This Bill violates the principles under articles 14, 15, and 25. It is both discriminatory, arbitrary and a grave attack on the basic structure of the Constitution as it violates the principles of judicial independence and separation of powers,” said the MP.

“It needs to be understood that the waqf management of property is an essential religious practice for a Muslim. By denying legal recognition to Waqf-al-Aulad under Clause 4 and Waqf under Section 3 r1, the government has sought to restrict how Muslims can manage their Waqf property severely,” said Asaduddin Owaisi.

“The Hindu endowment boards are recognised by usage and custom, but here (Waqf Board), you are asking for documentation. No existing law, whether non-religious or personal, limits the right of a person to will their property or dispose of it,” he further added.

The Hyderabad MP stated that the Bill restricts Muslims from giving their property in the name of Allah. “You are stopping me from praying. The government is trying to take over dargahs and waqf boards by using Waqf.”
