CM Revanth Reddy asks Union minister Kishan Reddy to take responsibility and step aside from his ministerial berth, if he can't protect the interests of the State.

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday claimed that Telangana is not competing with Andhra Pradesh or Karnataka but it is competing with the world.

Asserting that neighbouring states do not have a city like Hyderabad, he said they were no competition for Telangana.

Revanth Reddy was speaking at the inauguration of the new campus of Cognizant in Hyderabad on Wednesday, hours after his return from a visit to the United States and South Korea to invite investments.

Stating that Hyderabad is the best destination for investments, the Chief Minister invited industries to invest in Hyderabad and Telangana.

“Come and invest. The Telangana government will provide you with all the necessary support,” he said.

Reiterating that Future City will be developed as the fourth city after Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Cyberabad, he said the development of Future City will prove the state government’s commitment.

He said every businessman and corporate leader they met in the US and South Korea evinced a keen interest in investing in Telangana.

The Chief Minister revealed that their visit yielded investment pledges of Rs.31,500 crore, which will create 30,750 jobs. He exuded confidence that some more MoUs will be signed soon.

He announced that the Investor Task Force would be constituted to hold investors’ meetings.

Revanth Reddy said the future state of Telangana will have three rings. The first ring will be the Core Urban Area Hyderabad, and the second ring will be a semi-urban area in which manufacturing units will be set up.

The third ring will be the rural Telangana beyond the proposed Regional Ring Road and here Asia’s best villages with all modern facilities will be developed.

The Chief Minister said his government’s ambition is to transform Telangana into a trillion-dollar economy in the next 10 years.

Assuring full support to Cognizant for its expansion plans in Hyderabad, he noted that this IT company is the second largest employer in Telangana.

Hyderabad has a history of more than four hundred years. The foundation for the development of IT in Hyderabad was laid by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The IT sector’s growth continued under the rule of Chandrababu Naidu and Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

He said despite political differences, they all gave priority to the development of Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: Doctors demand CPA for health care workers

Hyderabad: Doctors at Hyderabad’s Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) on August 15, Thursday demanded the Central Protection Act(CPA) for health care workers.

A large number of resident doctors at the NIMS hospital held a march in solidarity with the female doctor who was raped and murdered at the government-run RG Kar Medical Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal on August 9.

The resident doctors raised ‘We want Justice’ slogans and participated in a ‘Rasta Roko’ protest just outside the hospital premises.

On the issue, NIMS Resident Doctors Association (RDA) President Dr Raj Kiran Emmadi said, “The CPA draft bill was passed in 2022 ; however since doctors make up less than 1 percent of the population, the government is not bothered about the CPA. The Centre is not solely responsible for such issues. The state government should also take its responsibility.”

“We demand that the CPA should be implemented as soon as possible. In the wake of the incident, the government should implement the act in the next few weeks.” the doctor said.

“When a doctor’s life is secured, it could benefit several others hence the government should take this up early. The NIMS RDA demands justice for the Kolkata victim, which was initially termed as a suicide, subsequently a person was made a scapegoat as the culprit. Now, the postmortem reports reveal that it was found that this is rape and other details are coming out,” Raj Kiran said.

Speaking of the vandalism at the RG Kar College, the doctor said, “The incident points to some powerful people are involved in the case. This has led to the hospital being vandalised and the doctors including females being attacked by goons.”

Telangana holding talks with World Bank for loans: Revanth Reddy

$

Hyderabad: In a veiled attack on the previous BRS regime, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday said his government would not make the mistake of borrowing funds with higher interest rates and impose a heavy burden on people, even as he highlighted his vision to develop Telangana as the ‘future state’.

In his Independence Day address after hoisting the National Flag at the historic Golconda Fort here, the CM said the government is already making efforts to restructure the state debts and he met with the World Bank President during his recent visit to the US in this regard.

“I am delighted to announce that talks with the World bank representatives were cordial over extending financial assistance with low interest rate for state development. My government will not commit the mistakes of borrowing funds with higher interest rates and putting a heavy burden on people,” he said.

“The total state debt at the time of formation of Telangana was Rs 75,577 crore and it has increased to Rs 7 lakh crore in December last year. The government released a white paper on state finances and also committed to revitalizing the state economy.”

He alleged that the state’s economy was in ruins when the Congress assumed power in the state in December last year.

Despite facing financial hurdles, the government is making all out efforts to fulfill the promises made by ruling Congress, he said.

Reddy recalled the contributions of former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and P V Narasimha Rao to the nation’s development and the role of Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi in the formation of Telangana.

He said his government accorded priority to “revive the freedom which Telangana was deprived of for the last 10 years” and it broke the shackles of physical and psychological slavery. Today, people have the freedom to question the government.

Reddy also highlighted the fulfilment of the ruling Congress’ promises, including free travel for women in state-run buses, Rs 10 lakh Arogya Sri health scheme for poor, providing cooking gas cylinder for Rs 500, free power up to 200 units to the poor, Indiramma housing scheme and farm loan waiver.

Noting that the government is committed to providing Rs 15,000 per acre to every eligible farmer under the ‘Rythu Bharosa’ scheme, he said the government constituted a cabinet sub-committee which elicited opinions and suggestions from farmers, agriculture labourers, intellectuals and farmer associations on Rythu Bharosa.

Soon the Rythu Bharosa scheme would be launched after considering all suggestions and finalizing the modalities, he added.

The government has decided to join the Fasal Bima Yojana scheme to implement the crop insurance scheme and the government will pay the premium on behalf of the farmers.

According to Reddy, the government has given special focus on addressing the problems faced by the farming community due to the Dharani integrated land records management system (brought in by the previous BRS regime), and it is mulling bringing an integrated act to address land-related issues.

As part of reforms in education, the government has decided to constitute a “Vidya Commission” (education commission) soon and Anganwadi centers will be upgraded as Pre Primary schools.

He said the foundation stone was recently laid for Young India Skills University on Hyderabad outskirts and Mahindra group Chairman Anand Mahindra has consented to be the Chairman of the Skill University.

Observing that development and welfare should be undertaken equally to bring qualitative changes in people’s lives, he said Telangana should be promoted as the gateway of the world.

“Telangana brand should be projected on the world platform. As part of it, Minister Sridhar Babu and myself visited America recently. We held meetings with global investors and multinational company representatives and explained investment prospects in Telangana. We projected Telangana as a Future State and explained the initiatives – Fourth city, Musi Riverfront Development project, Regional Ring Road, International standard civic infrastructure, Metro Rail expansion etc,” he said.

Hyderabad: The plaster of the ceiling at the Osmania University (OU)’s New Research Scholar hostel fell right outside the reading room, where several students were gathered on Wednesday, August 14.

A PhD scholar at the political science department, Nelli Satya, said that the ceiling plaster fell while the students were reading newspapers in the reading room at the OU Hostel, a few meters away. “The ceiling plaster fell just outside the room.”

The ceiling plaster may have weakened as water seeped into it following heavy rains in Hyderabad.

In July, students faced a similar situation when the plaster of the ceiling inside a washroom also tore away. Nobody was injured in the incident. However, students raised concerns over their safety and demanded that the management immediately address the issue. Several students expressed dismay over the incident and wished to be relocated.

On Tuesday water dripped through the ceiling at the research scholars’ mess at the university creating puddles in the dining area. Videos of students dining in a mess filled with water were circulated on social media platforms.

The research scholars faced a similar situation last year following which they protested by having food while sitting on a flooded floor.

Telangana free electricity scheme: Beneficiaries struggle to receive ‘zero bill’

Karnataka govt secures Rs 5,257 cr loan to clear electricity dues

Hyderabad: The government of Telangana has launched the Gruha Jyoti scheme, offering free electricity up to 200 units, with a significant number of people already benefiting from it. However, despite the scheme’s promise, many poor households are struggling to receive zero electricity bills due to certain mandatory conditions.

One key requirement for availing of this scheme is the possession of a food security card. Despite fulfilling all conditions, many eligible individuals are still facing difficulties in getting their electricity bills waived.

In the districts of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal, a total of 19.8 lakh applications have been submitted under the Gruha Jyoti scheme as part of the Praja Palana program. However, around 2.50 lakh eligible applicants are still receiving electricity bills.

Officials have attributed this issue to incomplete data entry, which is preventing eligible consumers from receiving the promised zero bills. The Praja Palana program saw a rush in online application registrations, leading to some oversights.

Electricity officials are now conducting field visits and meeting with consumers, who have been voicing their concerns about not receiving the zero bills despite meeting all the criteria.

During the Assembly budget session, the government presented data indicating that 42.25 lakh people received free electricity in July. Among these, 7.40 lakh people within the Hyderabad, Rangareddy, and Medchal limits are reported to have received zero electricity bills.

However, the challenges faced by those who are still receiving bills despite their eligibility highlight ongoing issues in the implementation of the scheme.

Congress cheated farmers in the name of crop loan waiver, says BRS

KTR holds the municipal administration department responsible for the collapse of the retaining walls of Sunkishala project.

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday accused the Congress government in Telangana of deceiving and defrauding farmers under the guise of a Rs 2 lakh loan waiver.

Reacting to the announcement made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy while launching the third and final phase of loan waiver, he said this once again proved that “Congress is synonymous with deceit”.

KTR, as the BRS leader is popularly known, slammed the government for reducing the number of beneficiaries.

He said that those excluded from the waiver will undoubtedly protest from tomorrow.

KTR demanded that the Congress government explain to the state’s farmers how they managed a Rs 2 lakh loan waiver with only Rs 17,900 crore, while the BRS government spent Rs 17,000 crore on a Rs 1 lakh waiver.

He dismissed the Congress scheme as a “million-dollar joke” and compared it to the bogus Paddy bonus scheme. He further criticized the reduction in the number of beneficiaries despite doubling the loan waiver amount, calling it a blatant example of Congress’s fraudulent policies.

KTR remarked that during the election campaign, Congress promised a complete loan waiver to all farmers, creating false hopes. He recalled the statement of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, urging farmers to secure loans up to Rs. 2 lakhs quickly. However, after assuming power and over eight months in office, Congress has backtracked on its promises, imposing countless conditions and pushing thousands of farmers into further distress.

Another BRS leader T. Harish Rao has also criticised CM Revanth Reddy for breaking the loan waiver promise

“Revanth Reddy keeps proving that he is not fit to be Chief Minister. In the history of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, there has never been a more disgraceful Chief Minister,” said Harish Rao.

The former minister alleged that despite swearing on gods, Revanth Reddy did not keep his promises and instead made false accusations against the BRS and him.

He said before the Assembly elections, Revanth Reddy promised to waive farm loans of Rs 40,000 crore.

“When he couldn’t fulfill this, he staged another drama before the Parliament elections. He then claimed he would waive Rs 31,000 crore by August 15, which is Rs 9,000 crore less than his original promise. If the Congress government is waiving Rs 2 lakhs in loans, how can there be only 22 lakh farmers, and how can it cost just Rs 17,869 crore?” he asked

Amer Ali Khan, Prof Kodandaram take oath as Telangana MLCs

Hyderabad: Amer Ali Khan, News Editor of the Urdu newspaper The Siasat Daily, and Prof M Kodanda Rama Reddy (known as Kodandaram), President of Telangana Jana Samithi, took oath today as Members of the Telangana State Legislative Council (MLCs).

They were first nominated in January. However, the Telangana High Court deferred their swearing-in. The court’s directive came after a petition by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders Dasoju Shravan and Kurra Satyanarayana, who challenged the appointments of Professor Kodandaram and Amer Ali Khan under the Governor’s quota.

In March, the court quashed the Governor’s order from September last year, which had rejected the nomination of Dasoju Sravan Kumar and K. Satyanarayana to the Legislative Council. It also quashed the recent nomination of M. Kodandaram and Amer Ali Khan as MLCs under the Governor’s quota.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court stayed the Telangana High Court’s judgment to quash the decision of the then Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.

In the appeals submitted by the BRS nominees, it was stated that if the state and Governor proceed with the appointment of the Congress nominees for the MLC posts under the Governor’s quota, it will be subject to the judgment of the pleas.

Following this development, Amer Ali Khan and Prof. Kodandaram were administered the oath as Telangana MLCs.

Telangana CM Revanth Reddy claims BRS will merge with BJP

New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday claimed that the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) is likely to merge with the BJP in the near future.

Reddy told reporters here that BRS president and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, or KCR, as he is known as, might be appointed as Governor, while his son and party working president K T Rama Rao could be inducted into the Union Cabinet.

The Chief Minister also suggested that T Harish Rao, a former minister, might become the Leader of Opposition in the Telangana Assembly.

“BRS members in Rajya Sabha too would merge with the BJP, which would facilitate KCR’s daughter and MLC K Kavitha to enter the Upper House,” Reddy said, adding that she may secure bail in the Delhi liquor case.

He asserted that despite denials from BRS leaders, the merger “will happen at any cost.”

Reddy also criticised political parties for attempting to involve his family members in controversies.

On the farm loan waiver scheme, the CM stated that the government had fulfilled its poll promise before the August 15 deadline.

He advised those who hadn’t received assistance to file complaints at their Collectorates. He also said that a Rs 5,000 crore reserve fund has been allocated for the scheme.

Reddy also met Congress President Mallikarjuna Kharge and discussed the appointment of new president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee.
