Hyderabad: In a recent protest against the authorities’ inaction, residents of Jagtial planted rice saplings in potholes to highlight the poor condition of their waterlogged and pothole-filled roads, which they said were severely disrupting their daily commute.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, a group of youngsters are seen stopping commuters and asking for their opinions on civic issues.

Some commuters complained that their vehicles were skidding due to the uneven surface, while others said that it was difficult to navigate through the area.

A few commuters demonstrated how it was difficult to move on the mucky path. Following the demonstration, youth were filmed planting rice saplings in the potholes.

“The school children are facing a lot of difficulty. They walk 2 km from their houses and have to cross this area on the way to school. If it rains, most of them are forced to return home. There are no auto rickshaws available for students to travel in this area,” said a resident.

“The issue is not just related to our village, most villages in the district face such issues. We don’t know if there is anyone who would address these issues,” said another.

In July this year, residents of Bowrampet, Qutbullapur planted rice saplings in potholes to draw the attention of the municipal commissioner and local authorities’ poor performance. The waterlogged and wrecked roads made daily commute difficult. The demonstration was intended to demand prompt action.

In May this year, a woman in Hyderabad’s Nagole area sat in a pothole and protested the poor road conditions. The woman, a resident of Anandnagar sat on the busy colony road after her pleas to fix potholes fell on deaf ears.

Frustrated over daily commuting through the bad roads in Hyderabad, the resident sat inside a pothole, drawing the attention of people around her.

milad un nabi procession in hyderabad

Hyderabad: Hyderabad will host year-long events to mark the 1500th anniversary of Milad-un-Nabi, as decided by the Markaz-e-Milad Juloos Committee, also known as the Central Milad Procession Committee.

According to a report published in DC, the events will include seminars, natiya mehfils, and literary competitions.

Following a meeting at its office, the committee decided to involve people from other faiths as well.

Milad-un-Nabi procession in Hyderabad

Since Eid Milad-un-Nabi is expected to fall on September 16, the procession in Hyderabad is also anticipated on the same day. Although the Telangana government has declared a holiday for that day, the exact date of Milad-un-Nabi is not yet confirmed, as it depends on the sighting of the crescent moon.

Given that this is the 1500th anniversary of Milad-un-Nabi, various events are planned throughout the year.

Procession rescheduled last year

Last year, the Milad-un-Nabi procession in Hyderabad was rescheduled because it coincided with the Ganesh immersion festival.

This year, Vinayaka Chavithi falls on September 7, and Ganesh Visarjan is scheduled for September 17.

As Milad-un-Nabi is celebrated on Rabi’ al-awwal 12, which may fall on September 16 or 17 depending on the crescent sighting, it remains to be seen whether it will again coincide with Ganesh Visarjan.

Hyderabad: The Nampally Court on Monday, August 19, granted bail to ASP Bhujanga Rao who is involved in the phone-tapping case.

Rao was granted a 15 day bail after he presented his previous medical history, pertaining to a heart treatment that he underwent, and claimed that there was a need for further treatment.

Since March 23, Rao has been in judicial remand on allegations of being part of a team of police officers who allegedly conspired to tap the phones of politician, including current chief minister A Revanth Reddy and his family, leading industrialists and private individuals to help the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) retain power in Telangana.

Following the investigation, the police named six accused including former Special Intelligence Bureau chief Prabhakar Rao, DSP rank officer Praneeth Rao, ASP Bhujanga Rao and Tirupathanna, and senior executive of a vernacular media Sravan Kumar. Among these, Prabhakar and Kumar are absconding.

Four of the accused have been in prison for five months and their bail petitions were repeatedly rejected. As per a report by the TOI, while granting bail to Rao the first additional sessions judge laid down conditions. One among these is that the accused shouldn’t cross the GHMC limits.

“This court is of the view that in view of the complexity of the medical conditions of the accused it may require a thorough diagnosis which may even include his admission to hospital. When such is the medical condition of the accused, this court is of the view that the request of the accused for the grant of interim bail is to be considered on medical and humanitarian grounds,” read the order.

Will remove Rajiv Gandhi statue from Telangana Secretariat: KTR

BRS working president KTR leads BRS MLAs and MLCs to Kannepally pump house and Medigadda barrage, and also witnessed the flow of Godavari River at Indaram on Friday.

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Monday, August 19, said the BRS would rename all locations across the state after prominent personalities from Telangana.

“Today by erecting a Rajiv Gandhi statue in front of the Secretariat, the Congress party which killed over hundreds of people is now trying to hamper the pride and existence of the state. Without a doubt the BRS will regain power.” KTR said.

The BRS working president stated that four years from now, KCR will be the chief minister and the BRS will form the government. “Once our government tis formed, the Rajiv Gandhi statue will be removed from in front of the secretariat. It will be placed wherever the Congress wants it to be placed. The Telangana Talli statue will be placed in front of the secretariat,” KTR remarked.

KTR added that the Congress has done “grave injustice” to Telangana and that the BRS will rename the Rajiv Gandhi International airport in Hyderabad as well and it will be named after a prominent figure from Telangana.

“Since most of the essential locations across the country are name after prominent personalities from the particular state. Like Mumbai has Chatrapati Shivaji and Bengaluru has Kempegowda. Only in Hyderabad, monuments and institutions are named after Rajiv Gandhi,” the Sircilla MLA said. Calling the Congress’s move to pu Rajiv Gandhi’s statue in the Secretariat “cheap”, KTR stated that the BRS will not “put up” with all these names anymore. All the cheap tricks of the Congress will be dealt with in four years. Right now, on behalf of the people of Telangana , I demand the Congress to remove the statue from the secretariat,” he added.

” There are a lot of Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi statues and areas named after them in Hyderabad. The BRS did not change those; However the statue in front of Secretariat should be removed. The Congress is used to taking order from Delhi. The BRS doesn’t have any such compulsion. We will rename all the locations as soon as we come to power,” he remarked.

Speaking of the atrocities against women in Telangana , KTR said, ” Womens safety has become a concern since the Congress came to power in Telangana. Remember the Shadnagar case where a Dalit woman was assaulted by the police,? It was after BRS leaders confronted the police that officer was suspended. There are a lot of other incidents of atrocities against women in Telangana.”

He further questioned the role of the police in ensuring safety for women and children. “There is a need to create a peaceful atmosphere in the state and Congress doesn’t know how to do it. The government doesn’t know how to control the large number of murders happening in Hyderabad. The government has not appointed a home minister for Telangana.”

KTR urged the Congress to study how the BRS created she teams, Bharosa centers, womens safety wing and the she shuttles. “Following the rape and murder of the doctor in Kolkata, the doctors are demanding the government to deal with the culprits like the BRS governmet dealt with accused in Disha case.” KTR claimed.

With you through thick and thin: KTR on Kavitha's absence during Rakhi

Hyderabad: On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) expressed his despair over the absence of his sister K Kavitha, who is currently lodged in Tihar jail over charges concerning the Delhi liquor excise policy money laundering case.

Taking to X, the senior BRS leader posted old images of Kavitha tying Rakhi to him and expressed that he missed her and would be with her through her hardships.

“You may not be able to tie Rakhi, today but will be with you through thick and thin. #Rakhi 2024,” read his X post.

BRS organised a Raksha Bandhan function in Telangana Bhavan where several women tied Rakhi to KTR.

Later, while speaking to the media, KTR voiced confidence that Kavitha would be released soon.

“We are trying. It has been 155 days since she has been arrested. We hope that she will get justice and she will get the bail soon…I hope justice will be served to us too,” he told reporters.

On March 15, BRS leader K Kavitha was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Delhi excise policy scam over alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped liquor policy. Despite repeated bail plea requests, Kavitha is in judicial custody in Tihar jail.

The Long Table: Finest experiential dining in Hyderabad for hungry souls

$
0
0

Hyderabad: One of the biggest complaints about the food scene in our city is that it does not match up to other metros in terms of innovation. Those who are well-travelled especially often remark that Hyderabad still has a long way to go. While Hyderabadi cuisine of course is always around, one has to look hard to find something new and also food that is consistently good in terms of both quality, taste and even novelty.

To try and fix that gap, lawyer-turned-chef Pragati Mitta started her experiential dining venture The Long Table recently. Offering a wide range of delectable options for anyone who is looking to try new cuisines, TLT is perhaps one of the best things to happens to Hyderabad in recent times. The intimate experiential dining is held in Pragati’s own home in Hyderabad, giving it a more personal touch.

What sets it apart is that TLT’s USP is its limited-edition seasonal menus using fresh, locally sourced produce. “The goal at The Long Table is to bring the world to the table, fusing international and local flavors,” says Pragati. Siasat.com was invited to one of her last ‘Mango Edition’ dinners, and boy oh boy, was it a treat.

Right from the summer cooler starter to the sticky rice dessert, everything led to a fabulous explosion of our taste buds. The 10-seater dinner was done with finesse. Picking up to read the menu itself is exciting given that it won’t anything we can anticipate. Once the meal starts, the chef takes her time to explain the idea and intricacy behind every single item on it.

The Mango Editionwhat we ate

Summer cooler

-Salad (3 kinds of mango, bell pepper, lettuce, peanut butter & soy dressing, wasabi tule)

Achappam (rose cookie, mango puliseri, inji pull)

Iced tea (mango, mint fizz)

Taco (smoked BBQ pulled jackfruit, mango salsa, jalapeno crema, masa corn tortilla)

Gazpacho (reverse spherified mango and cucumber cold soup)

Crispy rice (soy ginger glazed tofu, aromatic rice, totapuri mango slaw)

Mille Feuille (mango shrikhand, phyllo, aam papad, hot honey)

Sticky Rice (class Thai dessert – mango, karuppu kavuni rice, coconut).

“We don’t have a strict menu. The next menu I am looking to do is cuisine based. I still look to change menus to keep it fresh. The current form is new. I intended to open my new restaurant using produce from my farms. But after working in the food industry here I decided not to and thought to start something like this that is more under control,” Pragati says.

Her experience working in the food industry in Hyderabad is what pushed Pragati to start The Long Table eventually. “I have seen how fickle the food industry is. Everyone is looking for something new, and it is very rare that people have loyalty. If anyone does anything radical, they are punished. Like if I had to do this in a restaurant, I don’t think it would work,” she adds.

Reservations are accepted four to five days in advance for the weekend dinners. Currently, Pragati’s ‘Barsaat edition’ menu is on. Anyone looking to book reservations can reach out to her via her Instagram page.

About the chef and TLT: Pragati Mitta is a lawyer-turned-chef. After graduating in History from St. Stephen’s College and earning a Bachelor’s in Law from the Faculty of Law, Delhi University, she practiced law for a couple of years before deciding to follow her passion for cooking. Pragati started cooking during a summer internship in Egypt, where she lived away from home for the first time, and she hasn’t stopped since.

To round out her culinary knowledge, she studied Pastry and Baking Arts at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York and took classes in local cuisines in Italy, France, Greece, Vietnam, and Mexico. After culinary school, she returned to India and worked for a few years in Delhi at the Olive Group and L’Opéra, a French patisserie.

A couple of years ago, she moved to Hyderabad intending to start a food venture using produce from her family farm just outside the city. To better understand the food market and preferences in Hyderabad, she worked as a consultant to a few restaurants. The Long Table (TLT) is the culmination of all her travels and experience in the food industry over the better part of a decade.

Citizens protest at Tank Bund in Hyderabad

An umbrella of organisations including Stree Mukti League, Disha Students’ Organisation, and Naujawan Bharat Sabha organised a protest demonstration raising concerns over increasing violence against women in the country, on the background of brutal rape and murder of the female doctor in Kolkata, at People’s Plaza near Hussain Sagar, on Sunday, August 18.

The protest which saw a large participation of students, doctors, social activists and citizens of Hyderabad demanded justice for the victim, severe punishment for the culprits. The protest also highlighted the role of capitalist patriarchy, which the protestors say, enables unsafe environments in the streets, workplaces, classrooms, even in their own houses for women.

The protesting activists highlighted the incidents of crime that are coming into light everyday, including a nurse getting raped and murdered while returning from work in Uttarakhand, the gangrape and murder of a class 9 dalit student studying in Bihar, and many more incidents of crimes against women and the abusers getting away with legal and political power.

The protesting doctors alleged that health services of not truly providing universal health care, but rather focuses on exploiting doctors and medical staff to earn profit. Healthcare workers are often compelled to work for longer hours, without enough security nor facilities, while healthcare conglomerates earn hgh profits using healthcare workers’ services and expertise.

Expressing their anger against the government’s indifference and inaction towards the safety concerns faced by women, the protesting activists sang revolutionary songs and encouraged fellow women to rise up against all forms of exploitation and oppression.

BRS spokesperson Krishank demanded the agency to also take action against encroachments allegedly made by Congress legislators. Krishank ‘listed’ several properties owned by Congress leaders, questioning HYDRAA’s ‘failures’. Over the last two weeks, HYDRAA commissioner AV Ranganath has taken action against encroachments that have been built in the full tank level (FTL) of lakes like Gandipet and Bam Rukn-ud-daula.

The BRS leader pointed out specific instances, asking, “What about the Congress MLA Vivek Venkatswamy’s farmhouse constructed in the buffer zone right beside the water body? What about the private resort of Congress MLC Patnam near Himayat Sagar? And why is there no action on Minister Ponguleti’s residence in the buffer zone? I hope HYDRA hasn’t forgotten about the farmhouse owned by Congress leader KVP in the buffer zone. What about the farmhouse belonging to the Congress Leader and Legislative Council Chairman?”

However, it may be recalled that Vivek was also once in the BRS. HYDRAA, which was earlier the State Disaster Response Force, was created by the Congress government to expand its area and powers. The body is also now responsible for the protection of lakes.

“The BRS’s questions highlight the perceived disparity in how HYDRA is addressing encroachments, calling for a more uniform approach that includes properties linked to influential Congress figures,” added a release from the BRS.

Hyderabad: Chicken prices drop during Shravan; veggies and flower prices rise

Hyderabad: During the Shravan month, when many devotees of Lord Shiva abstain from eating meat, chicken prices have seen a significant drop.

Before Shravan, chicken was priced between Rs 320 and Rs 340 per kilogram in Hyderabad. However, this month saw skinless chicken being sold at Rs 150 per kilogram, regular chicken for Rs 120, and a whole live chicken for Rs 90, according to local news reports.

This price decrease is due to the reduced consumption of meat as many women engage in pujas and vrats (fasting), leading to no meat being prepared at home.

On the other hand, the demand for vegetables and flowers has increased, causing their prices to rise. Numerous weddings and events are also another reason for its price rise.

Despite the lower chicken prices, poultry farming remains stable, as chickens must be sold within a certain period regardless of demand. Additionally, with mutton being expensive, many people continue to opt for chicken as a more affordable choice.
