Fire accident in Hyderabad claims lives of husband, wife in Yakutpura

Hyderabad: Shruti Gupta, a 15-year-old girl died on Saturday, November 2, from the injuries she sustained from a fire accident that occurred at her house in Chandanagar of Yakutpura in Hyderabad.

Her death drew criticism of inaction from the side of the Telangana government led by chief minister Revanth Reddy, in delivering medical assistance to the girl, who has been battling for her life since October 28.

With the death of Shruti Gupta, all three victims of the fire accident have lost their lives. Shruthi’s grandparents, Mohan Lal, 55 and his wife Usha, 50, were declared dead due to asphyxiation, on October 28.

The fire accident occurred in the house on Monday night, October 28, when Shruthi’s grandparents Mohan Lal and Usha were making Deepawali sweets, while sparks from the fireplace fell on firecrackers stored in the house near Yakutpura Railway Station, which led to the house rapidly getting engulfed in fire.

The elderly couple lost their lives after asphyxiating from the smoke before reaching the hospital, with Shruthi battling for her life for four days.

Telangana govt blamed of inaction

Chief minister Revanth Reddy and his office are drawing stern criticism over the issue, with accusations of slow response and inaction to provide urgent help to Shruti Gupta.

After days of reported inaction, the Chief minister’s office tweeted and promised medical help to Shruthi on November 2, hours after she lost her life. This has sparked outrage against the chief minister, with several remarking online that her life could have been saved if she was given timely medical care, with the state government’s intervention.

According to ex-corporator and Majlis Bachao Tehreek spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan, the injured girl was first hospitalised at Osmania General Hospital and due to lack of proper care, she was later shifted to Yashoda Hospital. At the private hospital, the family was asked to pay huge deposit amounts for her treatment, to the tune of Rs 2 lakh.

Amjed Ullah Khan said that the leader repeatedly tried to reach chief minister Revanth Reddy and the district collector, to provide help to the girl, for three days, but only got no response. The leader added that the leader and his followers arranged the money, and settled the bills at the private hospital.

Shruti’s family shifted her to Gandhi Hospital on the evening of November 1, while the girl had stopped responding to the medications. On November 2, after battling for life for 4 days, Shruthi died on Tuesday morning, November 2.

Meanwhile, on November 2, the Chief Minister’s office responded to an X post by a Congress activist, requesting him to look into the issue.

Congree leader Indira Shobhan lodges complaint with Cyber Crime police station.

Hyderabad: Congress leader Indira Shobhan has lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime police station in Hyderabad on Saturday, alleging that BRS’ social media team has hacked her facebook account and deleted it.

She also complained against Facebook for failing to protect her account from getting deleted without her notice.

Indira had posted a five-second reel on her Facebook page after the raid on the farmhouse of Raj Pakala on October 27, in which she had mentioned ‘Drug Rao’ and ‘Drama Rao.’

She alleged that after that reel went viral, the fake social media accounts of BRS workers started targeting her, by hurling filthy abuses against her and chief minister A Revanth Reddy.

She told Siasat.com that she was shocked to receive an email from Facebook that her account has been deleted, and BRS workers were targeting her on all her other social media platforms.

“These people are doing this at a very high level. I had a network of 50,000 people on facebook, and now it has all been deleted now. All the information has been erased permanently,” she said.

A first information report (FIR) has been registered under sections 66-C, 66-D and 67 of the IT Act, and sections 79 and 352 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Food safety team continues raids at restaurants in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The scrutiny of restaurants continues as the food safety team conducts raids at a popular restaurant in Hyderabad.

This time, the raids were conducted at California Burrito and the Majlis Culture Cuisine in Attapur on Friday, November 1.

At California Burrito, the inspection team spotted a live cockroach infestation within the kitchen and store premises.

In addition to the pest issue, inspectors noted that the establishment did not have essential documentation on hand. Medical fitness certificates for food handlers and a water analysis report for the reverse osmosis (RO) water used in food preparation were both absent, raising questions about food safety protocols.

Further, the inspection at restaurants in Hyderabad also revealed spoilt cauliflower stored in the storeroom, highlighting potential negligence in food storage practices. Although food articles in the refrigerator were properly covered and labelled, the establishment failed to maintain temperature records.

On a positive note, the FSSAI license was displayed correctly at the counter, and food handlers were seen adhering to hygiene practices by wearing haircaps and aprons.

At Majlis Culture Cuisine, another restaurant in Hyderabad, the inspection team discovered expired food items, including fruit syrup, kewra water, and fruit crush, which were discarded on-site.

The establishment was found lacking proper insect-proof screens and doors, leaving it vulnerable to pest entry. Additionally, medical fitness certificates for food handlers were absent, raising concerns about hygiene practices.

In the refrigerator, food articles were improperly stored without covers or labels, and synthetic food colours suspected of being used in non-vegetarian Chinese dishes were also discarded.

Crucially, temperature records for the refrigerator were not maintained. While the FSSAI license was properly displayed at the entrance, food handlers were seen wearing hair caps and aprons.

Despite continuous inspections, violations surface each time the team conducts checks at restaurants in Hyderabad.

HC allows probe into Jubilee Hills accident case involving BRS ex MLA’s son

Telangana High Court notifies revised working hours

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has upheld the decision of the Nampally Criminal Court to conduct further investigations into the tragic Jubilee Hills accident case involving Mohammed Raheel Aamir, son of BRS former Bodhan MLA Shakeel Aamir.

This ruling comes in light of a 2022 incident where a two-month-old boy, lost his life, and two others sustained serious injuries due to a car accident attributed to Raheel.

Background of the case

The accident occurred on March 17, 2022, when a car allegedly driven by Raheel struck and killed the infant while injuring his mother and another street vendor. Initially, the police arrested a friend of Raheel, Syed Afnan Ahmed, who confessed to driving the car at the time of the incident.

However, there have been allegations that Raheel’s father used his political influence to shield his son from legal repercussions.

Recent developments

In a petition filed on June 26, Raheel contested the reopening of the case, arguing that it was unjust since an investigation had already been completed.

His counsel argued that the order of the trial court amounted to a violation of the principle of law under Section 173(8) of the CrPC and that the trial court had erred in directing the prosecution to proceed with further investigation.

Mahesh Raje, the government pleader, argued that the 2022 investigation was not done on proper lines and there were several lapses in the process.

Hence, the ACP of Jubilee Hills had instructed an inspector to take up the investigation.

Justice K Sujatha dismissed his petition after reviewing arguments from both sides, asserting that there were no errors in the trial court’s orders allowing further inquiry into the matter.

The police investigation has faced scrutiny for its thoroughness, with claims that crucial evidence such as CCTV footage and fingerprint analysis was not adequately pursued during the initial investigation.

Recent developments indicate that the police are now re-examining the case following new evidence and testimonies that suggest possible misconduct in how the original investigation was handled.

Bandi Sanjay unhappy with Owaisi for connecting TTD with Waqf Board issue

Union minister of state for home affairs Bandi Sanjay blames BRS cadres for the lathi-charge onn Group-I aspirants during rally to Secretariat on Saturday.

Hyderabad: Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, expressed strong indignation in response to comments made by AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi questioning Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led NDA government at the Centre for its decision to allow non-Muslims in the Waqf Board while advocating for exclusive Hindu representation in the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).

Sanjay criticized Owaisi for attempting to connect the “sacred” TTD, a prominent Hindu temple, with Waqf Board lands.

He stated, “Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam is the sacred place of Lord Venkateswara… The Waqf Board is solely related to land matters. It isn’t even comparable to your place of worship, Mecca Mosque.”

He further condemned Owaisi’s remarks as “disgraceful”, accusing him of “shamelessly linking TTD with Waqf land business dealings.”

The minister also addressed Owaisi’s remarks on Hindu representation in the Waqf Board, arguing that the central government’s aim is to ensure that Waqf lands benefit the poorer Muslim community.

“TTD uses its donations to help the needy and support Hindu religious institutions but has never occupied public property,” he added.

Sanjay accused Owaisi of viewing religion as a business, stating, “In Owaisi’s eyes, God is merely a business. Under the name of Allah, he has looted lands, seized thousands of acres, built colleges and hospitals, and earned crores.”

Bandi Sanjay addresses Old City voters

Addressing residents of the Old City, Sanjay urged them to reflect on their voting history with AIMIM.

“Why has the Old City still not transformed? Why hasn’t it become a new city like Cyberabad?” he questioned.

He spoke about the ongoing struggles such as inadequate housing and lack of educational opportunities in the area contrasting these issues with the “success” of the Owaisi family, which he accused of occupying Waqf lands and profiting under the guise of service.

Sanjay also hinted at revealing records related to AIMIM’s dealings, suggesting they would not withstand scrutiny.

Sanjay slams AIMIM’s closeness with Congress

He criticized AIMIM’s current alignment with Congress, stating that it has revealed its “true colours” after once stoking Telangana sentiment.

The Karimnagar MP also urged members of Congress, BRS, and AIMIM to reconsider their political paths.

“If you sacrifice for the nation and righteousness, your name will be remembered in history. But why are you ruining your lives for the opportunistic politics of KCR, Owaisi, and the fake Gandhi family? Think it over.”

LS: Owaisi expresses discontent over govt's treatment of Muslims

Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday, November 2 said he agrees with Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh chief ministers MK Stalin and N Chandrababu Naidu about the need for South Indians to have more children.

“Chandrababu Naidu and Stalin asked people in Southern states to have more kids. If I had said the same thing, there would be breaking news “Owaisi calls for Population Jihad” When Naidu has said it he would have said it for some reason,” said the AIMIM president.

He said that the AP chief minister is aware that the population in South India has reduced adding that the southern states have witnessed a sharp decline in the Total Fertility Rate (TFR). “If the delimitation will be done based on population, then South Indian states will be adversely affected. There will be reduced assembly and Parliamentary seats in South India. In this context, is it wrong to call for increased population?” he asked.

“South Indians would say instead of being rewarded for reducing the population, the constituency and Parliamentary seats are being decreased,” he added.

Owaisi went on to say that there is a need to understand the limited power of South Indian states in national politics. “If the seats are further reduced to accommodate more seats for states with more population, how is it justified?” the Hyderabad MP asked.

He reiterated that the Tamil Nadu and AP chief ministers have rightly called for having more kids. The AIMIM chief expressed dismay over how the media would perceived the same statement differently if he had said it.

Stalin, Naidu’s remarks on population

It is to be noted that AP chief minister Chandra Babu Naidu said that the state government is planning to implement “population management”, including considering new legislation to incentivise families with more kids. “The state government is thinking of bringing a law that would make only those with more than two children eligible to contest local body elections,” Naidu said.

Speaking of the total fertility rate, the chief minister said the fertility rate in southern states has already dropped to 1.6, well below the national average of 2.1. “If it declines any further, we will see a higher number of elderly people by 2047, which is not desirable. In many villages across Andhra and other parts of the country, only elderly people remain. The younger population has moved to cities,” he said.
Naidu acknowledged his earlier stand on population control.

Similarly, Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin said, “As there is a scenario of decreasing Lok Sabha constituencies, it raises the question: why should we restrict ourselves to having fewer children? Why shouldn’t we aim for 16 children?” Stalin added.

This comes after Naidu’s announcement that the Andhra Pradesh government is planning to incentivize families with more children due to an ageing population. He also urged residents of South Indian states to consider having more children.

These statements are in response to reports that the BJP-led Union government is considering a realignment of constituencies based on population.

Hyderabad faces surge in air pollution amid Diwali celebrations

Diwali celebrations leave Hyderabad shrouded in poor air quality

Hyderabad: The city has recently experienced a significant deterioration in air quality, reaching alarming levels during the Diwali celebrations.

Over the past 72 hours, the air quality in the city has deteriorated sharply, attributed largely to the extensive use of firecrackers.

According to data released by the Telangana State Pollution Control Board, this year’s air pollution has increased by 10% compared to last year, with specific areas like Kapra, Bollarum, Patancheru, Somajiguda, and Sanathnagar being particularly affected.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) has soared to 171, well above the acceptable limit of 60. In some neighbourhoods, readings were even more concerning: Somajiguda recorded an AQI of 105, while New Malakpet reached a staggering 335.

The presence of hazardous particulate matter (PM2.5) has been noted, with levels peaking at 475 at the U.S. Consulate observatory and similarly high readings in other areas.

The Telangana State Pollution Control Board has reported that air quality is expected to remain poor, with ongoing health risks for vulnerable populations.

Effects of air pollution on human health

Air pollution has profound and far-reaching effects on human health, impacting nearly every organ in the body. The primary pathway for exposure is through the respiratory system, where inhaled pollutants can lead to inflammation and oxidative stress.

These reactions can initiate or exacerbate a range of health issues, including respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Short-term exposure to high levels of air pollution can trigger acute symptoms like coughing, wheezing, and chest tightness, while long-term exposure is linked to more severe conditions such as lung cancer and cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and strokes.

Children and vulnerable populations are particularly at risk. For instance, studies have shown that air pollution can hinder lung development in children, leading to long-term health consequences that persist into adulthood.

Additionally, pregnant women exposed to polluted air may experience adverse outcomes such as low birth weight and preterm births.

The World Health Organization has classified air pollution as a significant risk factor for various diseases, including diabetes and cognitive impairments like Alzheimer’s disease.

Moreover, the economic burden of air pollution is substantial. It contributes to increased healthcare costs due to hospitalizations for respiratory illnesses and other pollution-related diseases.

In regions with high pollution levels, the incidence of premature deaths attributable to air quality issues is alarmingly high.

BRS opposes proposal to include Congress workers in temple committees

After 'fake info' case, BRS leader Krishank taken into custody

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Sunday opposed a proposal to include social media coordinators of the Congress in temple committees across Telangana.

BRS leader Krishank Manne said this was only aimed at employing Congress workers in temples and would impose a financial burden on temples. He stated that existing endowment officers were already well-qualified to handle any spiritual or promotional campaigns.

“Social Media Coordinator in each temple is only to employ Congress Karyakartas in Temples across Telangana. This is an additional financial burden to Temples. Endowments Officers are qualified enough to run Spiritual Campaign,” Krishank posted on social media platform X.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President B. Mahesh Kumar Goud in a letter to Telangana Minister for Environment, Forest, and Endowments, Konda Surekha, recommended that Social Media Coordinators be accommodated in temple committees across the state.

He emphasised the importance of these roles in promoting developmental activities in the temples.

In the letter dated November 2, Mahesh Kumar Goud on behalf of the TPCC appreciated the minister’s efforts for the development of temples in the Endowments Department.

“It is learnt that the new Temple Committees/Trust Boards are being formed in respect of all Temples, after the formation of our new Government in the state of Telangana,” he wrote.

“In this connection, I am to inform you that there is a need to accommodate a “Social Media Coordinator” in all Temple Committees/Trust Boards, whenever such committees/Trust Boards are formed to propagate the development activities in the respective Temples through social media to reach the same to the common public,” the TPCC chief wrote.

“Therefore, I fervently request you to please examine the above issue and see that the ‘Social Media Coordinator’ is placed in the Temple Committees/Trust Boards whenever they are formed,” he added.
