Sameer thanked the external affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar and the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) leader Amjed Ullah Khan for their timely help. He also thanked the Consulate General of India (CGI) in Jeddah.

On December 22, Sameer’s mother Shaheda Begum requested Amjed Ullah Khan to bring her son back, who was lured by a travel agent Mohammed Akber with a job in a food delivery firm.

Sameer, a Nampally resident, travelled to Jeddah on August 2 after paying Rs 1.50 lakh to Akber to work as a delivery boy on a salary of 1,500 Saudi Riyals. However, Sameer had not receive his salary since he began working in Saudi Arabia.

Sameer’s circumstances deteriorated when he attempted to return to India because his sponsor, Kafeel, demanded Rs 2 lakh to release his passport.

Travel agent Akber sent around 30 Hyderabad youths to Saudi Arabia who are reportedly still trapped abroad.

Formula E race scam: Officials seek time to appear before ED in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Former Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) commissioner Arvind Kumar and its chief engineer BLN Reddy on Thursday, January 2, sought time to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the alleged Formula E race scam.

Kumar and Reddy were summoned by the ED on January 2 and January 3 respectively, while Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) was summoned on January 7.

Reports suggest that KTR is in consultation with his legal experts on how to approach the case.

KTR who was the municipal administration minister during the previous BRS regime, was summoned by the federal agency over the alleged irregularities with regard to conducting the race in Hyderabad.

In an informal interaction with media persons, KTR on January 1 described the allegations against him as baseless and alleged that the Revanth Reddy government is trying to send him to jail in false cases and that he would not be intimidated by such attempts.

On December 31, the Telangana High Court reserved its order on a petition filed by KTR seeking to quash the FIR registered against him by the ACB in the Formula-E race issue.

Hyderabad: Asaduddin Owaisi sends chadar to Ajmer Sharif Dargah

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Thursday, January 2, dispatched a ‘chadar’ for offering at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah on the occasion of the annual Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti.

Party chief Asaduddin Owaisi presented the delicately crafted yellow and green chadar made by bangle merchants of Laad Bazaar in Charminar under the leadership of Mujeeb Bangles.

Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, also known as Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz, was a Sufi saint of the Chisti order. He is known to be the direct descendant of Prophet Muhammad.

Born in Sistan (present-day Eastern Iran and Southern Afghanistan), he travelled all the way from Lahore to Delhi and finally settled in Ajmer. His tomb in Ajmer, the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, is one of the holiest Islamic shrines in the world.

Muslims from across the world visit the Dargah every year to offer their prayers. Not only Muslims, but people belonging to different religions also visit the shrine throughout the year.

To commemorate the death anniversary of the beloved Sufi saint, the Urs festival is celebrated each year in Ajmer during the first six days of ‘Rajab’, the seventh month of the Islamic calendar.

Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti is also known for establishing the Chisti order of Sufi mysticism in India in the early 13th century. He was the first saint to incorporate the use of music and hymns into prayers. It is believed that Prophet Muhammad once appeared in Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti’s dream and asked the saint to become his representative in India.

Bengaluru police files chargesheet against Telugu actress Hema

Karnataka High Court in an interim order has stayed proceedings against Telugu actress Kolla Hema in a drug consumption case. The actress allegedly tested positive for drugs after she attended a rave party at a farmhouse in Bengaluru in May 2024.

Justice Hemant Chandangoudar in his order noted the charges against Hema under Section 27(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, for consumption of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substance, had no corroborative evidence and were based solely on the confession of a co-accused in the case.

The actress had been arrested on June 3 last year after she failed to appear before the central crime branch for investigation and was charged with consumption of narcotic drugs, providing false information to the police during the raid, having prior knowledge of banned substances and attempting to mislead investigators. She was released on bail 10 days after her arrest.

A raid was conducted by the central crime branch of Bengaluru city police at a rave party hosted at GR Farms in Singena Agrahara last year in May where over 80 individuals tested positive for drugs. A charge sheet was filed against them in the month of September.

Hema had been charged with consumption of MDMA pills. However, the actress denied the allegations and even highlighted delays in her medical exam.

Hema had filed a petition seeking quashing of the chargesheet and a stay on the proceedings against her in an NDPS special court. A stay has been granted to her which will be in force till the court takes up her petition for further hearing.

The incident took place in Telangana early on Thursday, and the Government Railway Police (GRP) later detained four persons after the train arrived at Nagpur in Maharashtra.

The victim, identified as Shashank Ramsingh Raj, a resident of Rajapur Kaimhara in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, was travelling from Secunderabad to Jhansi, they said.

22 booked for possessing banned Chinese manja in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police have registered 18 cases against 22 individuals for possessing banned Chinese manja made from non-biodegradable and synthetic materials.

A total of 1,094 bobbins made from these harmful products were confiscated from the shopkeepers. Police officials have also warned shopkeepers not to sell the banned Chinese manja with severe action promised for non-compliance.

In addition, the Hyderabad police held several meetings with shopkeepers and customers in Mangalhat and surrounding areas, urging them to take safety precautions when flying kites. They recommended flying kites only from buildings with compound walls or railings to prevent falls.

The Hyderabad police also stressed the importance of avoiding the purchase of Chinese manja to protect human lives, birds, and animals, warning that failure to follow these guidelines would result in legal consequences.

On Saturday, December 21, three individuals were arrested after the Mangalhat police raided two shops and seized Chinese manja worth Rs. 4.26 lakhs.

Based on a tip-off, the police raided the shops located at Mangalhath market. The three accused – Vinay Raj Singh, Anoop Singh and Shanker Singh – were illegally selling the Chinese thread used for flying kites.

A case has been registered.

Why Chinese manja dangerous?

Chinese manja (kite string) which is illegally sold in various parts of India including Hyderabad during Sankranti is harmful due to its composition, which often includes synthetic materials like nylon and coated with glass powder or metal. This makes it extremely sharp and capable of causing serious injuries to humans, animals, and birds. It is known to entangle or cut through the skin, leading to deep cuts and even fatalities.

Additionally, it poses a threat to wildlife as birds can get caught in it, leading to injury or death. Its non-biodegradable nature also contributes to environmental pollution.
