Hyderabad: Rachakonda cyber crime police successfully recovered Rs 70,01,788 of the Rs 1.58 crore defrauded from a 65-year-old woman by cybercriminals in a digital arrest scheme. The victim, Geeta Upadhyay, a resident of Uppal, was targeted by fraudsters posing as cybercrime officers.

On December 8, 2024, Geeta received a call on WhatsApp from an unknown number. The caller, Sunil Dutt Dubey, introduced himself as Mohit Sharma, a cybercrime officer from Mumbai. He falsely claimed that a SIM card issued in her name had been used for criminal activities, including harassment and sending vulgar content. He also fabricated an FIR (MH 1045/2024), alleging that her SIM card was involved in anti-social activities.

Dubey coerced Geeta into revealing her personal and bank account details under the threat of legal action. Over several phases, he extorted nearly Rs 1.58 crore, including fixed deposits, provident funds, and savings, from her accounts. He threatened to expose her involvement in the fake crime if she reported the matter.

Realising she had been duped, Geeta lodged a complaint with the Rachakonda cybercrime police. ACP S Shiva Shankar led the investigation, and inspector Maqbool Jani and his team tracked the funds to ICICI Bank in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. The stolen money was frozen, and Rs 70.01 lakh was recovered.

Rachakonda DCP Cybercrime Nagalakshmi and other senior officers lauded Inspector Maqbool and his team for their swift action. The Rachakonda cybercrime police have issued a public warning, advising citizens not to respond to unsolicited calls, messages, or links from unknown sources. They urged people to contact the 1930 toll-free helpline if they suspect any fraudulent activity.

Cherlapally Railway Station in Hyderabad set to open on Dec 28

The Cherlapally Railway Station, a state-of-the-art facility designed to alleviate congestion at Hyderabad’s existing railway stations, is set to officially open on January 6, 2025.

Prime Minister Narender Modi will inaugurate the station virtually while BJP leaders and Union ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Kishan Reddy will participate in the program directly.

Earlier scheduled to be inaugurated on December 28, 2024, it was postponed over the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The central government had held a seven-day mourning for the veteran politician.

The inauguration of the station has reportedly been postponed a total of four times in the last two months.

This new terminal aims to reduce pressure on the city’s major stations—Secunderabad, Nampally, and Kacheguda—by providing enhanced services and modern amenities for passengers.

With the opening of this terminal, the city anticipates a significant improvement in rail travel efficiency and passenger comfort.

Nine platforms

Built at a cost of approximately Rs 430 crore, the Cherlapally Railway Station Terminal will feature nine platforms, including four newly constructed high-level platforms.

It is expected to accommodate 20 long-distance trains and handle increased passenger traffic effectively.

The terminal is equipped with various facilities comparable to those found in airports, ensuring a seamless travel experience for all users.

Key amenities include separate waiting areas for men and women, an executive lounge, cafeterias, and restaurants to cater to passengers’ needs.

To further enhance accessibility, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is reportedly working on widening approach roads and constructing new routes leading to the terminal.

In addition, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is coordinating bus services from various city depots to ensure smooth connectivity for passengers arriving from different parts of Hyderabad.

With rapid urban development in the eastern parts of the city, including areas like LB Nagar and Uppal, the new terminal will serve as a crucial hub for commuters.

Its strategic location near the Outer Ring Road (ORR) will facilitate easier access for passengers travelling from suburban regions.

Amenities at Cherlapally Railway Station

This terminal incorporates facilities that resemble those found in airports, ensuring a comfortable and efficient travel experience for all users.

One of the standout features of the terminal is its well-planned waiting areas. It includes separate waiting halls for men and women, an upper-class waiting area, and an executive lounge designed for enhanced comfort.

These spaces are intended to provide passengers with a relaxing environment while they await their trains. Additionally, the terminal offers a cafeteria and restaurant on-site, giving travellers convenient dining options.

Feeding cabins, FoBs

For families travelling with infants, feeding cabins have been included to cater to their specific needs. Accessibility is a key consideration in the design of the Cherlapally Railway Station. The facility features multiple lifts and escalators across all nine platforms, ensuring easy movement for all passengers, including those with disabilities.

To facilitate smooth inter-platform movement, two new foot-over bridges have been constructed—one measuring 12 meters wide and the other 6 meters wide. This thoughtful design aims to enhance the overall flow of passenger traffic within the terminal.

Modern restroom facilities are also a priority at the terminal, with clean and well-maintained options available for both men and women.

Furthermore, the terminal includes coach maintenance facilities that support trains departing from the station, contributing to operational efficiency. Incorporating environmental considerations, the development features eco-friendly measures such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting pits, and LED lighting to promote sustainability.

Additionally, electric vehicle (EV) charging points are provided to support environmentally friendly transportation options for passengers arriving at the terminal.

Black tea decoction tradition in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Small hotels and cafes selling black tea or decoction are mushrooming in older parts of Hyderabad city, which is more known for Irani chai.

In the past couple of years, the hotels serving different varieties of black tea to the customers for a price of Rs 20 for a full cup and Rs 10 for a single cup have mushroomed.

The craze is fast-catching in youngsters who prioritize black tea decoction over regular Irani chai available at restaurants, said cafe owners.

The black tea decoction hotels are different from Irani cafes in terms of seating arrangements. In these hotels there are chairs and round tables instead of long tables and long benches or seats that are typically found in Irani cafes.

“Different varities of black tea blends are made by adding ginger, honey, zinda talismat liquid, mint, and other ingredients as demanded by customer,” Abdul Rasheed, said a Hyderabad hotel owner.

The average sales at decoction hotel are 1000 cups a day. It means a business of about Rs 15,000 a day. These hotels start business since early mornings and continue till late night.

The ingredients especially the tea powder is sourced from MJ Market, where the wholesale market is located. “If business is good. Anywhere between Rs 4,000 to Rs 4,500 can be earned as profits easily,” a hotel owner at Talabkatta, said Naushad.

“People are preferring black decoction tea over Irani tea considering health benefits,” said a hotel owner at Rein Bazaar, Amjad Shareef.

Telangana government to officially celebrate Savitribai Phule Jayanthi as Women Teacher's Day every year from now onwards.

Hyderabad: The Telangana government will celebrate January 3 as “Women Teacher’s Day” starting Friday, commemorating the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule, the wife of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule.

The Phule couple were the 19th Century reformers who faced all odds in educating the children, especially girls, at a time when the then Indian society was against imparting education to them.

There have been various instances when the Phule couple were attacked by regressive forces, as they were running a school in their village. The couple have fought against the ‘Sati’ system that was prevalent in those days, against superstitions and other social evils.

Stories are still told about the hardships faced by the Phule couple, including instances where people threw stones at them as they escorted children from marginalized communities to their home-run school. They also endured societal rejection, with people refusing to provide drinking water for their schools.

Telangana government has decided to observe January 3 every year here in memory of the first female teacher of India.

Interestingly, the funds for these celebrations will be siphoned out of the education department’s annual budget, as per the order issued by chief secretary A Santhi Kumari on Thursday.

Revive Hyderabad Metro rail plan from Raidurg to Shamshabad: BRS

Special discounts for Hyderabad metro commuters on Rapido rides

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders have called on the Telangana state government to revive the previously announced Metro rail corridor from Raidurg to Shamshabad.

This proposal was initially part of the plans laid out by the former BRS government.

During a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, January 2, BRS MLAs KP Vivekananda and Marri Rajasekhar Reddy, along with former MPs Balka Suman and B Vinod Kumar, criticized the current Congress government, led by chief minister A Revanth Reddy, for “delaying” the Metro expansion plans in Hyderabad.

Vivekananda emphasized that the Congress government’s decision to scrap the Raidurg to Shamshabad line was an attempt to erase the legacy of former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR).

The BRS leaders urged that a clear deadline be established for completing Metro Rail Phase II, particularly focusing on the northern stretches of the city.

They argued that including the Raidurg to Shamshabad stretch is crucial as it would benefit thousands of IT employees.

While a foundation stone for the Jubilee Bus Stand (JBS) to the Shamirpet elevated corridor has already been laid, construction has not yet commenced due to pending central assistance.

Vinod Kumar suggested constructing a double-decker skyway along Rajiv Rahadari from JBS to Shamirpet to alleviate traffic congestion.

Telangana HC orders action against officials in land acquisition case

Telangana HC strikes down GO reserving PG medical seats for locals

Hyderabad: Justice T Vinod Kumar of the Telangana High Court has ordered the state government to take disciplinary action against revenue officials involved in the land acquisition process for the Shivanna Gudem balancing reservoir in Khudabakshpally village, Nalgonda district.

This directive came after a villager, Ralla Srinivasa Chary, sought compensation for his land, which was being acquired for the project.

Judge concerned over ‘collusion’ between authorities

The judge expressed concern over the apparent collusion between authorities, stating that their actions indicated they were “hand in glove” with one another.

During the proceedings, it was revealed that Chary had constructed the land with permission from local authorities even after the government issued an acquisition notification.

Justice Kumar criticized this decision, questioning how construction could be approved when such notifications prohibit any transactions on the affected land parcels.

He instructed the state to provide an affidavit detailing actions taken against the negligent officials and scheduled a follow-up hearing in three weeks.

Chary’s counsel argued for fair compensation and transparency in the acquisition process, emphasizing that they were not opposed to the acquisition itself but were seeking adequate compensation.

The state counsel countered by stating that Chary had initiated construction after the acquisition notification and was now contesting it in court.

Justice Kumar also pointed out that there was no stay on construction activities and pressed the state counsel on why no action had been taken against the errant officials.

Ultimately, he directed the state to inform the court about any proceedings against these officials while clarifying that Chary could not claim compensation under these circumstances.
