Rum use, expired items found in raids at bakeries in Hyderabad, Secunderabad

Hyderabad: Food safety officials in Hyderabad raided several bakeries across Greater Hyderabad including in Secunderabad and Alwal uncovering serious violations.

VAC’s pastries in Kharkhana and the Monginis Cake Shop in Alwal were inspected on December 3, 2024, revealing alarming conditions that pose significant health risks to consumers.

Raid at Secunderabad bakery

At VAC’s pastries, critical documents such as water analysis reports and medical records for food handlers were absent. Additionally, there were no FoSTaC-trained personnel on staff, raising concerns about food safety training compliance.

The Secunderabad bakery was found using rum in the preparation of plum cakes without the necessary excise permissions, and this was not disclosed on product labels.

Mouldy vessels used for cake preparation were discovered in unsanitary conditions. Furthermore, bulk preparations of fruit pulp were stored improperly in plastic drums without proper labelling or best-before dates.

All food items produced at the bakery lacked essential labelling information, including the FSSAI license number, manufacturing address, ingredient details, and batch numbers. Food and non-food items were stored together inappropriately. Several food items in refrigerators in this Hyderabad bakery were uncovered and lacked labels, with no temperature records maintained.

Food raid at Alwal bakery

Aside from not displaying its FSSAI license prominently, mouldy vessels were again noted in unhygienic conditions in the kitchen of the Hyderabad bakery. Additionally, rat faeces and live cockroach infestations were observed throughout the premises.

Numerous expired items were found, including Kesar syrup and various flavour compounds dating back to 2022. The cold room’s air conditioning unit was leaking, posing a risk of contamination to food products stored inside.

KTR went on to add that 25 lakh elderly people in Telangana would have received Rs 4,000 a month if the amount was utilised properly. He further added that atleast 1 lakh women in Telangana could have gotten gold and scooties promised by the Congress.

However, Hyderabad Real Estate and Infra, an X user, fact-checked KTR, saying that the Congress government in Telangana had spent only Rs 1.37 crore to change the state abbreviation on vehicle registration and license.

CM Revanth and Congress leaders send Chadar to Ajmer Dargah on Saturday.

Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy along with IT&EC minister D Sridhar Babu presented the annual customary chadar to be sent to Ajmer Sharif Dargah for the urs celebrations on Saturday, January 4.

An eight-member delegation would present the chadar in Ajmer on behalf of the Telangana government.

“It is a blessed opportunity to hand over a chadar to be sent to the Holy Ajmer Dargah to seek blessings for all the people of Telangana. I pray the blessings received at the sacred Dargah of Sufi saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti of #Ajmer to touch every citizen of our state,” the chief minister posted on X.

Leaders including Congress MLC Amer Ali Khan, endowments minister Konda Surekha, state planning board vice-chairman G Chinna Reddy, Waqf Board chairman Syed Azmat Ullah, Chairman of Hajj Khusro Biyabani, Telangana minorities finance corporation chairman Obaidullah Kothwal, Libraries chairman Riyaz, and others were present on the occasion.

Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, also known as Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz, was a Sufi saint of the Chisti order. He is known to be the direct descendant of Prophet Muhammad.

Born in Sistan (present-day Eastern Iran and Southern Afghanistan), he travelled all the way from Lahore to Delhi and finally settled in Ajmer. His tomb in Ajmer, the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, is one of the holiest Islamic shrines in the world.

Muslims from across the world visit the Dargah every year to offer their prayers. Not only Muslims, but people belonging to different religions also visit the shrine throughout the year.

To commemorate the death anniversary of the beloved Sufi saint, the Urs festival is celebrated each year in Ajmer during the first six days of ‘Rajab’, the seventh month of the Islamic calendar.

Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti is also known for establishing the Chisti order of Sufi mysticism in India in the early 13th century. He was the first saint to incorporate the use of music and hymns into prayers. It is believed that Prophet Muhammad once appeared in Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti’s dream and asked the saint to become his representative in India.

‘BJP, AAP follow Hindutva,’ says Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi

Hyderabad: 'BRS needs to introspect', says Asaduddin Owaisi on Musi development

Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday, January 4, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)and Aam Admi Party (AAP) of being ideologically similar, claiming both parties follow Hindutva and have roots in the RSS.

He stated, “RSS created Jan Sangh, which later became BJP in 1980, and AAP was formed in 2012-13 as part of the same ideology.”

Owaisi said AIMIM will contest the Delhi elections scheduled in February. The number of seats will be decided by the party’s Delhi unit president.

Owaisi criticized AAP, alleging that trash in Delhi is dumped in areas where Muslims live, and its claims of building schools and hospitals are false, as seen in Muslim localities.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual foundation stone-laying ceremony for a college named after Veer Savarkar, Owaisi questioned whether the government accepts the Kapoor Commission’s findings that allegedly linked Savarkar to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination. He also questioned the BJP’s stance, saying, “How can they hate Mughals but love someone allegedly involved in Gandhi’s assassination?”

Owaisi criticized PM Modi’s gesture of sending a ‘chadar’ to Ajmer Dargah, stating it was symbolic and not backed by real action. He argued that the government’s real responsibility is to prevent disputes over mosques and dargahs, many of which are in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh.

On China, Owaisi accused the government of being too soft, citing its failure to stop China from creating counties and building dams on disputed land. He questioned why the government tolerates an import imbalance with China and cannot prevent its actions.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal town, Owaisi alleged “one-sided oppression” against Muslims. He also demanded that the Centre clarify the share of Muslims in housing and other government schemes under PM initiatives.

Hyderabad: Completion of Uddamgadda flyover continues to remain elusive

Hyderabad: Completion of Uddamgadda flyover continues to remains elusive

It has been four years since the Uddamgadda (Shastripuram) road under bridge (RuB) started. However, the completion of the project is a long awaited dream.

The Uddamgadda overpass (over the railway crossing) is undertaken jointly by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Railways.

The construction of the Uddamgadda flyover began in 2021 with the aim of providing a hassle-free avenue for people to bypass the Uddamgadda railway gate. Traffic from Bibi ka Chashma, Falaknuma, Vattepally, Shastripuram, Teegalkunta, Nawabsahab Kunta (bound for Shamshabad), Katedan and Aramgarh use the road.

Due to the high traffic flow on the Mailardevpally – Vattepally road, the RuB was mooted and the proposal was cleared by GHMC in 2017 at an estimated cost of Rs71 crore. The works were inaugurated three years later and roads were widened to facilitate construction work for the Uddamgadda flyover.

Originally, the project should have been completed in 18 months but with the present condition, completion is nowhere in sight.

“Since then things have been moving at a snail’s pace. Commuters are facing problems as they have to take a long detour to reach Bandlaguda,” said Moize Khan, a resident of Shastripuram.

To reach Bandlaguda road, motorists take a detour of three kilometres via NPA Shivarampally or Falaknuma – Chandrayangutta. “People spend huge amounts towards fuel costs on the long detours. It literally burns a hole in the pocket,” complained another local resident Mubashhir Khan.

The issue of inordinate delay was echoed in the 2024 Winter Session of the Lok Sabha. In the first week of December, AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi raised the issue of incomplete Falaknuma and Shastripuram rail over bridges (RoB) during the discussion about the Railway Amendment Bill, 2024.

Asaduddin Owaisi described that the time taken for the RoB construction would break world records. “In my constituency, the Falaknuma RoB and the Shastripuram RoB will break the Guinness Book of (World) Records. For four years madam, it has been pending. In Shastripuram RoB construction, 10-15 people have lost their lives,” Owaisi stated.

Ajmer Sharif official slams Owaisi for comments on PM Modi’s chadar offering

Ajmer: A top Ajmer shrine official has slammed AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi over his remarks that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sending of a ‘chadar’ there would not suffice and he should address issues such as people filing court cases against mosques and dargahs.

“PM Modi should stop those who are going to court against mosques and dargahs. Just sending a chadar will not help,” Owaisi wrote on X on Saturday.

Syed Naseruddin Chishty, successor to the Ajmer Dargah chief and Chairman of the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council, disagreed with Owaisi’s remarks.

“He is a political leader, so only he can elaborate on his statement. However, if he has indeed said this, I do not agree. Crores of people have faith in this Dargah, and many send chadars to Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti’s shrine,” Chishty stated.

Speaking to IANS, Chishty said: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi moves forward with the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas (Together with all, development for all), taking everyone along. Today, he sent a chadar to the Dargah out of devotion. He consistently advocates for unity and peace.”

Chisty further said that the Prime Minister’s gesture is a strong message against divisive forces. “The mere act of sending the chadar is a slap on the face of those who seek to divide India along religious, communal, and sectarian lines. It is also a befitting reply to those trying to create religious hatred. The fact that a minister personally brought the chadar on behalf of the Prime Minister is a shining example of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Samman (Together with all, trust of all, respect for all).”

He lamented the negative reactions to the gesture, stating: “It is unfortunate that despite such positive developments, some are criticising the PM’s offering. We should recognise and appreciate his constructive efforts instead of letting hatred fester. What India needs today is security, safety, and unity.”

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi’s ceremonial ‘chadar’ was presented at the Ajmer Dargah shrine. Union Minister for Minority and Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, personally carried the chadar to the dargah, flying to Ajmer for the occasion.

Rijiju also read out the Prime Minister’s message. “On the auspicious occasion of the 813th Urs Mubarak of Garib Nawaz, I extend my heartfelt greetings to his followers across the world and to all the devotees gathered at Ajmer Sharif. Throughout history, our saints, pirs, faqirs, and great spiritual leaders have illuminated lives with their noble and welfare-oriented teachings. Among them, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti’s messages of humanity and public welfare have left an everlasting impact on countless people. His life and teachings continue to inspire profound faith among followers worldwide,” the message read.

“Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti’s dedication to fostering love and harmony in society serves as a guiding light for future generations. The annual Urs celebration plays a pivotal role in strengthening the bonds of unity and mutual respect among people. I am confident that this occasion will motivate everyone to contribute wholeheartedly to the betterment of our nation and society. As I send a chadar to the revered Dargah Sharif on this special occasion, I bow to Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti and pray for the happiness, prosperity, and well-being of all my fellow countrymen,” the PM said in his message.

Hyderabad-based NGO to use AI-backed app in primary health care

Hyderabad: Helping Hand Foundation (HHF), the city-based healthcare NGO is set to use an AI-powered healthcare app that will work as a doctor’s assistant and provide proactive suggestions and automated prescriptions from patient-doctor conversations.

HHF, which runs 12 community-centric comprehensive primary health care centres in over 75 urban and peri-urban slums of Hyderabad, has partnered with a US-based startup MIDOC that has developed the AI-powered app.

HHF would use the MIDOC app at its 12 healthcare centres which catered to 5.56 lakh patients in 2024.

The app has been launched as a pilot program in 5 of the 12 centres located in underprivileged Hyderabad neighbourhoods of Rajendra Nagar, Shaheen Nagar, Ghouse Nagar and Hasan Nagar.

‘The AI-based tool has a robust preventive health management system – wherein AI-driven monitoring of key health metrics with active alerts for any abnormalities is accessible to the doctors,’ HHF said in a statement.

The AI-based app enables the creation and management of centralized health profiles for all family members in a single location that would seamlessly facilitate adding new medical records, and reports and provide real-time alerts to the end user.

The AI-based health app can also provide health insights that offer personalised preventive measures and proactive suggestions based on historical data to both patients and doctors.

The app also offers physicians intelligent features like an AI-powered doctor’s assistant that helps generate automated prescriptions from doctor-patient conversations eliminating manual tasks.

MIDOC’s health app also enables follow-up alerts based on treatment timelines and patient progress. Personalised notifications for upcoming appointments, medication schedules and health checkups are also made available through the app.

By bringing AI into the Primary healthcare ecosystem, the HHF is aiming to enhance the patient experience and trust factor and empower their physicians to serve the patients more holistically, Mujtaba Hasan Askari, founder of the Helping Hand Foundation said in a statement.

Hyderabad: Telangana State Commission for Women chairperson Nerella Sharada issued a notice to BRS leader Ch Malla Reddy to appear before the commission to depose regarding the incident where videos of girls were allegedly taken in the bathrooms of the hostel rooms in CMR College of Engineering owned by him.

Sharada visited the hostel premises on Friday, January 3, and expressed her anguish against the negligent attitude of the hostel administration, She said the authorities had overlooked the complaints of the students for 3 months, suspecting that someone was recording their videos from the ventilators of their bathrooms.

Speaking with media, Sharada said that if it was under the jurisdiction of the women’s commission, she would have shut down the campus. She, however, said that based on the inquiry report, she will certainly recommend the state government to close CMR College of Engineering.

She also said that she would discuss with chief minister A Revanth Reddy and frame rules for private colleges soon.

“Delivering dialogues that you sold milk and flowers is not going to work. People in society are wondering whether you are selling videos of girls too. Just because you were a former minister and enjoy political clout, you won’t be spared. The college management has to appear before the commission when a notice is served,” Sharada warned Malla Reddy.

Meanwhile, two persons were arrested based on the fingerprints found on the glasses of the ventilators of the hostel’s bathrooms on Thursday following strong protests from the female students.

Telangana cabinet approves Rs 12,000 per acre per annum under Rythu Bharosa scheme.

Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday, December 4, announced that the state cabinet has decided to give Rs 12,000 per acre per annum of agricultural land under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, and Rs 12,000 per year to landless agricultural families under the Indiramma Aatmeeya Bharosa scheme.

After the meeting, CM Revanth announced that new ration cards would be provided to eligible beneficiaries who currently don’t have one.

He said these three schemes will be implemented from January 26, 2025, commemorating the 75 years of the Republic Day.

Rythu Bharosa eligibility

CM Revanth made it clear that fallow lands, hills, where mining operations are taking place, lands acquired for roads, agricultural lands converted for real estate and industries, and lands acquired from farmers by the state government would not be eligible for Rythu Bharosa.

The chief minister urged individuals who acquired land through the Rythu Bandhu scheme during the previous BRS regime to voluntarily submit their details to the state government. He emphasized that some had benefited from government schemes due to loopholes in the Dharani Portal, even though they were not eligible.

He said that revenue officials would hold gram sabhas in all the panchayats and inform the people about which lands would be eligible for Rythu Bharosa and which would not.

The chief minister said that Rs 12,000 for the two farmer-support schemes was determined based on the state’s financial capacity.

Before the Assembly elections in 2023, under the Rythu Declaration, Congress had promised to give Rs 7,500 per acre per crop season, which comes to Rs 15,000 per acre to all the farmers in the state.

Toddler mauled to death by stray dogs in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: As many as 324 stray dogs were caught and given anti-rabies vaccines while 142 stray dogs were sterilized by veterinary officials.

In July last year, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GMHC) formulated a detailed plan to curb the population of stray dogs and tackle related issues. The initiative focused on vaccination and sterilization of street dogs along with public awareness measures.

A directive was issued to developers and builders to set up creches at construction sites as the children of construction workers were the most vulnerable to dog attacks. A rapid response team for each circle of the GHMC was also directed to be formed.

It was recommended to sterilise dogs through Animal Birth Control and Anti Rabies Vaccinations (ABC-ARV) programmes which is said to be a humane stray dog management programme.

According to Blue Cross of Hyderabad, responsible garbage disposal is key since open garbage dumping sites attract and act as breeding centres for stray dogs. They also stress community participation to inform about stray dogs in the area.

People can identify a vaccinated and sterilized dog by looking for a notched ear. In case of dog bites, they recommend washing the wound immediately with running soap and water for 10 minutes and then applying an antiseptic. They advise against covering the wound and encourage visiting the doctor to start post-bite vaccinations.
