Cyberabad police issues advisory on the hazards of using Chinese Manja for kite flying.

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police has urged the public to avoid using dangerous kite strings such as nylon “Chinese” manja and glass or metal-coated “desi” strings during kite-flying activities during the Sankranthi festive season.

In an advisory to the people on Monday, January 6, the police cautioned that those materials posed severe risks to human life, animals, and the environment.

“Nylon manja and coated strings are highly sharp and abrasive, often causing deep cuts, serious injuries, and even fatalities. Motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians are particularly vulnerable to these hazardous threads that can hang loosely across roads, leading to accidents,” the advisory read.

“Children are at additional risk while flying kites. There have been instances where kids have fallen from the rooftops or other elevated areas while being engrossed in kite flying, leading to severe injuries and tragic deaths. Parents and elders are urged to supervise children closely during kite-flying activities to ensure their safety and prevent mishaps,” the people have been advised.

Precautions for Safe Kite Flying :

To ensure a safe and enjoyable kite-flying experience, the Cyberabad police recommended the following precautions:

• Avoid hazardous strings: Use safe, eco-friendly kite strings such as plain cotton threads without glass, metal, or synthetic coatings.

• Supervise children: Parents and elders should monitor children closely, especially when flying kites on rooftops or elevated areas, to prevent falls and accidents.

• Choose safe locations: Fly kites in open spaces away from roads, power lines, and crowded areas.

• Wear protective gear: Motorcyclists and cyclists have been advised to wear helmets and protective clothing during kite-flying seasons to minimize risks from stray threads.

• Proper disposal: Collect and dispose of used or broken kite strings responsibly to avoid harm to others, animals, and the environment.

The Cyberabad police appealed to the public to follow these safety measures to protect lives.

“Enjoy kite flying responsibly and make safety a priority for yourself and your loved ones,” Cyberabad police urged the people.

Hyderabad: TG RERA fines 2 home developers heavily for flouting regulations

Housing in Bengaluru is more affordable than Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Telangana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TGRERA) has taken action against two developers for failing to meet delivery deadlines and not adhering to required regulations.

In the first case, TGRERA ordered Krithika Infra Developers Pvt. Ltd. to refund Rs 33.84 lakh, along with 11.05% interest, to buyer Sri Katchala Nanaji.

Nanaji had paid this amount in October 2021 for a flat in the ‘Sheshadri’s Silver Oak’ project in Beeramguda, Hyderabad, with a promised delivery date of March 2024.

However, the developer missed this deadline. After multiple attempts to get an update, Nanaji filed a complaint with TGRERA.

The developer claimed to have refunded the amount via cheques, but Nanaji provided evidence that the cheques were dishonoured.

TGRERA found that the developer had violated the law by accepting payments before registering the project with RERA.

As a result, the authority ordered a full refund, imposed a penalty of Rs 9.96 lakh, and mandated that the developer register the project with RERA.

Additionally, the developer was prohibited from selling or advertising the flats until proper registration was completed.

In Ghatkesar

In the second case, buyers D Shruti and D Shravya had paid Rs 4 lakh in November 2020 to R Homes for a flat in Yamnampet, Ghatkesar.

The developer promised delivery within two and a half years but failed to do so. When they requested a refund, only Rs 2 lakh was returned in May 2024.

The developer claimed this amount was a full settlement; however, TGRERA found that R Homes had accepted money before registering the project with RERA in 2023, which is against regulations.

TGRERA ordered the developer to return the remaining Rs 2 lakh and pay a penalty of Rs 8,30,111.

The developer was given 30 days to refund the money and complete RERA registration or face further penalties.

HMPV virus

Hyderabad: Telangana’s Health Minister, Damodara Raja Narasimha addressed concerns surrounding the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), clarifying that it is not a new virus but has been circulating globally since 2001.

He said that HMPV primarily affects the respiratory system, typically resulting in mild symptoms.

The virus spreads through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, making awareness of hygiene practices crucial for prevention.

The minister noted a significant increase in HMPV cases reported in China this year, which has raised alarm among health officials.

However, he assured the public that health authorities are continuously monitoring the situation both internationally and within various states in India.

Telangana govt fully prepared: Health min

In terms of health preparedness, minister Narasimha stated that the Telangana government is fully equipped to handle any potential outbreaks, with all necessary medical facilities readily available.

He added that the health department is coordinating closely with central health authorities to ensure a robust response to any developments regarding HMPV.

The minister also urged the public not to panic but to remain cautious.

Health minister warns against misinformation

He highlighted the importance of combating misinformation on social media that could incite unnecessary fear among citizens.

“Accurate information is essential for public awareness and helps mitigate anxiety related to health issues,” he said.

Finally, Narasimha called for enhanced disease surveillance systems and preparedness measures among higher authorities and district officials.

Hyderabad police notice to Allu Arjun ahead of visit to Pushpa 2 stampede victim

Hyderabad: Justice K Sujana of the Telangana High Court has reserved orders on two anticipatory bail petitions filed by Adla Sharath Chandra Naidu and Cheruku Ramesh, who are associated with actor Allu Arjun.

The petitions relate to the tragic stampede incident at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad, which occurred during the premiere of Arjun’s film Pushpa 2: The Rule on December 4, 2024.

The incident resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman from suffocation and serious injuries to her eight-year-old son.

The case is being investigated under FIR No. 376 of 2024, registered at Chikkadpally police station.

Allu Arjun’s staff accused of pushing away crowd

According to the FIR and remand report, Naidu and Ramesh, along with other accused individuals, allegedly pushed the crowd away from Allu Arjun, leading to a surge that triggered the stampede.

The petitioners contend that the allegations against them are vague and do not meet the legal criteria for charges under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Their legal counsel emphasized that the FIR lacks specific details of any unlawful actions committed by Naidu and Ramesh, arguing that they did not engage in any illegal conduct.

They expressed concerns about potential unjustified detention or arrest if anticipatory bail is denied.

Additionally, they invoked Section 482 of the Bharatiya Nagirik Suraksha Sanhitha, 2023, advocating for a balance between a fair investigation and preventing unnecessary harassment.

After hearing arguments from both sides and reviewing the evidence presented, Justice Sujana has reserved her decision on the anticipatory bail requests.

Meanwhile, Allu Arjun has been granted regular bail and is required to report to police weekly as part of his bail conditions.

Two charred to death after car catches fire near Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In a heart-wrenching incident, a couple in a five-year relationship tragically ended their lives by setting themselves ablaze inside a car at the Outer Ring Road (ORR) near Hyderabad.

The incident occurred on Monday evening in Ghatkesar.

Hyderabad couple harassed

The man, identified as Parvatham Sriram, hailing from Bibinagar in Nalgonda district, used to work at a cycle shop in Narapally municipality, Pocharam.

It was during his time at the shop that he met the girl. Later, the friendship between them blossomed into a relationship.

It is alleged that a relative of the girl, identified as Chintu, came to know about their relationship and started harassing them.

As per the reports, Chintu threatened to expose their relationship and extorted approximately Rs 1.35 lakh from Sriram.

In a suicide note purportedly penned by Sriram, he accused Chintu and others of further intimidation and monetary demands.

Suicide pact

On Monday, overwhelmed by the persistent harassment, Sriram borrowed a car from an acquaintance.

Accompanied by the girl, he drove to a slip road at Ghanpur village, Ghatkesar. The couple allegedly doused themselves with fuel and set the car on fire.

Witnesses reported seeing Sriram escape the burning car in agony before collapsing on the pavement. The girl’s body was later found inside the charred vehicle.

Passersby alerted authorities upon noticing the burning car. Firefighters promptly arrived and extinguished the flames.

However, it was too late to save the couple. Initially, the authorities suspected the incident to be a car fire mishap, but the discovery of Sriram’s suicide note at his residence shed light on the tragic circumstances.

The police are now investigating the allegations against Chintu and others mentioned in the suicide note.

Telangana CM to visit hostels in Hyderabad, dine with students

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has officially announced an alliance between Congress and AIMIM to focus on Hyderabad’s development.

“When Ayya and Miyan unite, nothing can stop progress,” said the Chief Minister during the Aramghar flyover inauguration in Hyderabad’s old city. Replacing the popular “Jai Meem Jai Bheem” slogan with a Telangana version, he stated, “If Ayya and Miyan come together, no one can disturb law and order.”

Revanth Reddy also highlighted his commitment to Telangana’s development, declaring, “I am ready to fight Narendra Modi and meet Asaduddin Owaisi for the progress of the state.”

As part of the Congress-AIMIM alliance, the Chief Minister highlighted several key projects for Hyderabad’s growth:

  • A second cable bridge will be built over Mir Alam Tank, similar to Durgam Cheruvu bridge.
  • The foundation for a new Osmania General Hospital building will be laid next week.
  • The Aramghar flyover will be named after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

To discuss future projects, a Congress-AIMIM meeting will take place on January 11 or 12 at the Secretariat, bringing together AIMIM MLAs, MLCs, and leaders from Hyderabad’s Old City. The meeting will focus on development plans and required funds for the city.

Earlier, AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi praised Revanth Reddy’s recent visit to his former jailmate, Nagayya. Owaisi humorously recalled his 50-day imprisonment in 1998, stating that such experiences help politicians understand the struggles of the people.

Hyderabad police notice to Allu Arjun ahead of visit to Pushpa 2 stampede victim

Hyderabad: Tollywood actor Allu Arjun on Tuesday visited KIMS Hospital, Secunderabad to meet the eight-year-old boy who was injured in the stampede during the premier show of ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ at Sandhya Theatre last month.

Amid tight security by the police, the actor reached the hospital in the morning and spent about half an hour.

He was accompanied by Telangana State Film Development Corporation Chairman Dil Raju. The actor enquired from doctors about the condition of SriTej, met his father and assured him of all support.

Allu Arjun had planned to visit the Hyderabad hospital on January 5 after reporting at Chikkadpally Police Station as per the condition laid down by a city court while granting him regular bail. However, he had to drop his plans after Ramgopalpet Police Station issued a notice to him advising him to reconsider his visit. The police had advised Allu Arjun to maintain his confidentiality to prevent any gathering of public/media at the premises which could disturb the peaceful environs of the hospital.

The actor was warned that in case of a lack of cooperation from his side, he would be held solely responsible for any negative consequences of his visit to the hospital.

The police on January 6 issued another notice to him to keep his visit confidential so that public order could be maintained in and around the hospital. The police also offered to make necessary arrangements for his visit.

A woman, Revathi was killed and her son Sri Tej was critically injured in the stampede at the theatre on December 4 during the premier show attended by Allu Arjun.

The police had claimed that Allu Arjun visited the theatre without permission and conducted a ‘roadshow’ which led to the tragedy. Allu Arjun was arrested on December 13 in the case. He was granted interim bail by the High Court the same day.

Nampally Court last week granted the actor regular bail. The court directed him to cooperate with the investigation and report to the concerned police station every Sunday.

The actor had come under criticism from various quarters for not consoling the family of the deceased or visiting the injured boy at the hospital. The actor’s father and producer Allu Arvind visited the hospital twice. During his last visit on December 25, he presented a cheque of Rs 2 crore to the victim’s family. While Allu Arjun has given Rs 1 crore, Mythri Movies, the producers of the movie have extended assistance of Rs 50 lakh. The film’s director Sukumar has also given Rs 50 lakh to the family.

Congress lays siege to BJP office in Hyderabad one worker injured

Hyderabad: Tension prevailed near the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state office at Nampally on Tuesday, January 7, after the Youth Congress hurled stones at the BJP office to protest inappropriate comments of BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri against Congress leader and MP Priyanka Gandhi.

While a BJP worker was injured in the incident, the party workers targeted Congress workers and chased them away in the presence of police.

At noon, Youth Congress leaders charged towards the BJP office from Nampally main road. The police tried to stop them but the Congress workers reached the BJP office gate and hurled eggs and tomatoes.

The police pushed away the Congress party workers. The BJP workers who were in the office came out carrying sticks and tried to attack Congress workers in an attempt to chase them away.

“Lalu said in Bihar that he would make roads like Hema Malini’s cheeks, but he lied, he could not do it. I assure you that just as we made the roads in Okhla and Sangam Vihar, we will make all the roads in Kalkaji like Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks,” Bidhuri is heard saying in a purported video, which went viral on social media. However, he later posted a message on X expressing regret if his comments hurt anyone and claimed that his remarks had been misconstrued by some for political gains.

Directorate of Enforcement office (ED)

Hyderabad: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned former minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao (KTR) for questioning in the Formula E race case on Thursday, January 16.

The summon comes following the Telangana High Court’s dismissal of the minister’s plea to quash the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB)’s FIR against him.

Timeline of Formula E case

  • December 19: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) files an FIR against KTR, alleging misuse of government funds in conducting the Formula E race in Hyderabad. The FIR cites financial irregularities involving over Rs 54.88 crore in payments made to UK-based Formula E Operations Limited (FEO).
  • December 20: ED files cases against KTR.
  • December 21: KTR files a petition in the Telangana High Court seeking to quash the FIR filed by the ACB.
  • December 27: The Telangana High Court grants relief from arrest to KTR until December 31, allowing him temporary protection while considering his petition.
  • December 28: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) issues its first summon to KTR, directing him to appear for questioning on January 7, 2025. Senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar and former chief engineer BLN Reddy are summoned for questioning on January 2 and 3, respectively.
  • December 31: The Telangana High Court extends the stay on KTR’s arrest until a verdict is pronounced on his plea. The court allows the investigation to continue while ensuring KTR’s protection from arrest.

January 2025

  • January 2: Senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar appears before the ED for questioning regarding the alleged financial irregularities.
  • January 3: Former HMDA chief engineer BLN Reddy appears before the ED for questioning.
  • January 6:
    • KTR arrives at the ACB office but refuses to enter without his lawyer present. After a standoff lasting about 45 minutes, he submits a written reply to the ACB’s notice and leaves without recording his statement. He expresses readiness to cooperate within his constitutional rights but requests details about the case and relevant documents.
  • January 7:
    • The Telangana High Court dismisses KTR’s petition to quash the FIR filed by the ACB, allowing the investigation to proceed without any further protection against arrest. The court’s decision follows arguments about alleged unauthorized payments made by KTR.
    • KTR has been summoned by both ACB and ED for questioning by the ACB on January 9 and Janauray 16, respectively, regarding potential financial irregularities linked to the Formula E case.

ACB case against KTR in Formula E irregularities

ACB on December 29 had booked a case against KTR, special chief secretary Arvind Kumar and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) former chief engineer BLN Reddy for alleged irregularities in organizing the Formula E-car race in 2023 when BRS was in power.

The First Information Report (FIR) was registered under Sections 13(1)(A) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, along with Sections 409 and 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The FIR, registered on a complaint by Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) principal secretary Dana Kishore alleges irregularities in payments exceeding Rs 54.88 crore made by the HMDA to Formula-E Operations Limited (FEO) and associated entities without adhering to established financial procedures.

According to the FIR, the payments were made to FEO between September and October 2023, despite FEO terminating its agreement with the Telangana government during the same period. This amount also incurred a tax liability of Rs 8.06 crore, which was borne by HMDA.

A tripartite agreement signed in October 2022 between the Telangana government, FEO, and event sponsor Ace Nxt Gen Pvt Ltd had limited the State government’s financial responsibility.

The FIR alleged that disputes between FEO and Ace Nxt Gen Pvt Ltd led to the government assuming financial liability without regulatory approvals, causing losses to the exchequer.

HYDRAA chief AV Ranganath

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) commissioner AV Ranganath inspected the areas of HUDA Enclave Colony and Guru Brahma Nagar Basti of Hyderabad’s Jubilee Hills on Tuesday, January 7.

During the inspection, the HYDRAA chief found potentially illegal constructions including a compound wall built near the Nandagiri layout, to secure a park near a slum area consisting of structures mostly built with tin sheets. The wall is suspected to have breached the encroachment laws, as per the complaint received by the HYDRAA.

“A detailed survey will be conducted in these areas to determine the illegal constructions and encroachments, after taking measurements of the layout,” said Ranganath. He added that HYDRAA would secure the compound, and use DGPS (Differential Global Positioning System) for the surveys.

The HYDRAA chief also said once the HYDRAA police station is set up, the body will be able to file cases over encroachments.

AV Ranganath said that once the surveys are done, HYDRAA would involve both GHMC and HMDA and the collector, to work out a plan to rehabilitate the Basti residents. He also warned of heavy penalties and repercussions over land grabbing or encroachments.

The HYDRAA chief also said it is part of the government’s plan to provide Pakka housing for Guru Brahma Nagar Basti residents.

Khairtabad MLA Danam Nagendar also joined the HYDRAA chief in the inspection.

MLA Nagendar said that a park in the locality would be redeveloped through CSR projects of the MNCs after the surveys are completed. “Every inch of illegal encroachment will be taken back by the government.”

HYDRAA demolishes illegal constructions in Ayyappa Society

HYDRAA demolished a multi-storeyed building in Ayyappa Society in Khanamet in Serilingampally. The action came following a visit by Ranganath regarding a 684-yard plot, based on a complaint received, on Sunday, January 5.

Ranganath reviewed the notices served by the GHMC and the Telangana High Court’s orders at the scene. He took serious note of the builder disregarding the High Court’s orders and subsequent demolition notices served by the GHMC.

The GHMC issued demolition notices on February 14, 2024, and speaking orders on February 26, 2024, against the illegal construction, which includes a cellar, ground floor, and five floors above it.

Based on the High Court’s order, the GHMC had partly demolished the structure on June 13, 2024. However, the construction continued unabated.

Transformer blast causes fire on Hyderabad's Chanchalguda Road

Hyderabad: A transformer explosion on the Malakpet-Nalgonda X Road, close to Hyderabad’s Chanchalguda caused a massive fire on Tuesday, January 7.

Upon receiving information, the fire personnel immediately reached the spot and doused the fire.

No injuries have been reported so far.

Earlier, two individuals were charred to death on January 6 after a car caught fire at the Ghanpur service road in Ghatkesar, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, a suburb of Hyderabad. One victim has been identified as Ram, 26, a wholesale cycle shop owner from Narapally. The other person remains unidentified.

On Sunday night, the Hotel Minerva Grand in Hyderabad’s Hamayathnagar caught fire. Fortunately, the commuters passing by the road flames were extinguished quickly.

The city recorded approximately 2,500 fire accidents this year while Telangana saw a total of 7,600 accidents resulting in over 200 fatalities and property losses worth Rs 822 crore, an official of the fire department told Siasat.com.

These incidents range from small apartment fires to commercial buildings, and transformer fires on Roads in Hyderabad among other things.

Speaking to Siasat.com, fire department officials attributed the cause of the fires across Hyderabad to neglect, faulty wiring, overuse of electrical appliances, and carelessness in storing flammable substances. “We try to respond as quickly as possible, but many people are unaware of what to do during a fire, often getting stuck in lifts. Some buildings fail to follow safety protocols, such as having emergency exit doors or a lack of fire extinguishers,” they added.
