However, the reason for the raids on the makes of Pushpa 2 remains unclear as the IT Department in Hyderabad has not issued an official statement. However, it is being speculated that the situation may be linked to the financial returns from the movie.

Indians seek lifestyle residences amid govt’s infrastructure push: Economist

Hyderabad: The average size of flats has dipped in Hyderabad amid a rise in housing prices in the city.

According to a report by real estate consulting firm Anarock, the average flat size declined by 9 percent, dropping from 2,299 square feet in 2023 to 2,103 square feet in 2024.

Size of flats in Hyderabad rose over 6 years despite hike in housing prices

Although there was a decline in 2024, the six-year trend indicates an increase in flat sizes in Hyderabad.

The average flat size rose by 24 percent, from 1,700 square feet in 2019 to 2,103 square feet in 2024.

NCR sees 29 pc jump in flat sizes

Meanwhile, the average flat sizes in the top seven Indian cities rose by 8 percent annually in 2024, increasing from 1,420 square feet in 2023 to 1,540 square feet in 2024.

The National Capital Region (NCR) witnessed the steepest rise, with a 29 percent jump—from 1,890 square feet in 2023 to 2,435 square feet in 2024—largely driven by an increase in luxury housing supply.

In 2019, the average flat size in these cities was 1,145 square feet, marking a significant 34 percent increase over six years.

According to Anuj Puri, Chairman of Anarock Group, this surge is primarily due to the higher supply of new luxury housing in the NCR over the last year. Of the total 36,735 units launched in 2023, the luxury segment accounted for 40 percent. In 2024, this share rose to 70 percent of the 53,000 units launched in the NCR.

Two groups of Bhadradri Kothagudem Youth Congress leaders clash at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, January 22.

Hyderabad: Two groups within the Youth Congress of Bhadradri-Kothagudem district clashed at the Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, January 22, while a meeting of the newly-elected Youth Congress presidents of all the districts was in progress at Indira Bhavan.

The issue was between the original Youth Congress leaders and those who had shifted their loyalties from BRS to Congress.

In the recently held Youth Congress elections, Ch Karthik, who joined Congress from BRS, won the election for the post of district president. Another group led by Sudheer, Youth Congress district secretary who has been the original Congress leader, has been alleging that Karthik was ineligible to contest for the post.

As the matter wasn’t being resolved at the district level, Sudheer’s group thought they could raise the issue during the meeting at Indira Bhavan on Wednesday. The group came with documents alleging Karthik was over-age when he contested for the president’s post.

Sudheer’s group also alleged that posts in the organisation were being given only to those who came from other parties like BRS.

What started with arguments and sloganeering, soon escalated to heated altercations, Khan Bairis, and fisticuffs. Sudheer’s group was shunted out of the meeting, and when the group reached the parking lot of Gandhi Bhavan, Karthik’s group attacked them.

One of the Youth Congress leaders was attacked by multiple Youth Congress workers belonging to Karthik’s group. Before the situation could run out of control, the police personnel present there dispersed the crowd.

Sudheer’s group resolved to take the issue to the notice of the Congress party high command in Delhi.

Man murders wife, cuts her body parts in pieces, cooks them and disposes them in Meerpet.

Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a person murdered his wife, cut her into pieces, cooked her body parts in a pressure cooker, and threw them in various places under Meerpet police station’s limits.

The incident which happened on January 16, came to light on January 18, when Gurumurthy, a resident of Dandupalli village in Toofanpeta under Meerpet municipality’s limits, complained along with his in-laws at Meerpet police station, stating that his wife Venkata Madhavi went missing since January 16 after quarrelling with him.

The police grew suspicious after coming to know that the couple used to quarrel quite often before she went missing. Upon interrogation, Gurumurthy conceded his guilt. However, reports say that he has not been giving consistent answers about how he murdered his wife and the locations where he dumped the body parts of his wife.

He is known to have told the police that he dumped the body parts in Jillelaguda Cheruvu and other places.

Gurumurthy who took voluntary retirement from the army, has been working as a security guard on an outsourcing basis at the DRDO in Kanchanbagh. He was married to Venkata Madhavi 13 years ago and the couple have two children.

The investigation was still ongoing as of Wednesday evening.

Hyderabad’s Chintal Basti cleared of encroachments in 2-day demolition drive

$

GHMC demolished illegal road encroachments on Chintal Basthi main road on Wednesday, January 22.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been on a demolition spree on the Chintal Basti main road connecting Khairatabad with Masab Tank/Banjara Hills since Tuesday, January 21, which ended on Wednesday, January 22.

The reason for the demolition was that most of the shops, buildings, and residential houses on Chintal Basti main road had encroached upon the footpath and road.

The demolitions were carried out amid heavy police presence after the GHMC’s south zone commissioner received complaints from the traffic police that the road had shrunk due to encroachments.

According to GHMC town planning officer Sunitha who was overseeing the demolitions on Wednesday evening, the road was supposed to be 60-feet, but because of indiscriminate encroachment by the local shops and houses, traffic flow has been severely impacted. The GHMC’s demolition drive was taken up on the traffic police’s complaint.

However, the shopkeepers and residents were shattered by the demolitions of encroachments, including ramps and steps leading to their shops, which were scooped out by JCBs in the drive throughout the day.

Tens of kiosks, pan shops, chicken centers, flower shops, and footwear shops among many other stores were mercilessly demolished during the drive.

The shopkeepers informed Siasat.com that they were neither warned about the demolition nor were they given any prior notice.

“Had they given us a week, we could have gathered our material. But they just didn’t give us any chance to even speak,” said the owner of a hardware plumbing store, Asif Mohammed. His material was not only seized but he was also fined Rs 3,000 by GHMC for littering and placing material on the road.

Mohammed Zakir, a resident of Chintal Basti used to feed his family by running a small chicken center outside a dargah on the main road. His temporary shop (booth), along with other shops was demolished, pushing his family on the road. He was seen shifting whatever was left from the debris of his shop to a nearby scrap dealer.

“We don’t eat gold. We don’t even eat fine-grain rice. We live on ration and four families used to depend on this one shop. In this government, the rich are growing richer and the lower-middle class is plunging into poverty. KCR government was better. he didn’t trouble the poor,” Zakir told Siasat.com in polished English.

He claimed to have suffered a loss of up to Rs 1,30,000 due to the demolition of his shop.

It is a fact that almost every shop on Chintal Basti main road has encroached into the road, without even leaving space for building a footpath. It includes big showrooms, restaurants, beauty parlours, supermarkets, apartments, buildings, and more. A blanket application of the medicine called ‘demolition’ was given to everyone.

“We built our house in 1978, and in 1996 we gave 50 sq yds of our property to the government when it wanted to expand the 40 sq ft road to 60 sq ft. However, the cement road was built only in 2017. Even after the construction of the road, they left the ramp leading to our house intact because our area fell inside a curve which didn’t affect the road in any way. Today they are demolishing our steps/ramp, and tomorrow if they want to expand the road to 100 ft they may demolish our houses,” said Lakshmi.

The owner of another building stated that they had built the ramps because during the monsoons the entire road was flooded up to waist-level and his ramp acted as a shelter for the passersby. “They were alse essential for us to enter their house without getting caught in the flood water,” they added.

MLAs’ pleas go unheard

It was a day of political drama in Chintal Basti as Khairatabad Congress MLA Danam Nagender and Nampally AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain, who share the vote bank in the basti that falls under both constituencies, extended their support to the residents only on Wednesday, the second day of the demolition.

Despite Danam Nagender urging the GHMC officials to halt the demolitions till chief minister A Revanth Reddy returned from Davos, the GHMC officials paid little heed to him and carried the demolitions.

Majid Hussain made a temporary sit-in, argued with the GHMC officials, cursed Feroze Khan, his political opponent from Congress, and left the scene.

“There is nothing we can do except stay silent and let them carry on the demolition. If we utter anything they may demolish the entire shop,” said a tensed shop owner Asif Mohammed.

He also claimed that GHMC officials took away 22 tires and 2 drums from the shopkeeper adjacent to his shop, as they were placed on the road. “After ten days of dull business because of Sankranthi, we thought we could finally make some business. But it has all been destroyed,” he added.

According to the town planning officer, the debris will be removed overnight on Wednesday, and a new road would be laid in the area which has been cleared of encroachments.

Seethakka faces protest over dumping yard in Hyderabad's Peerzadiguda

Hyderabad: Telangana Panchayat Raj and Rural Development minister Danasari Anasuya, popularly known as Seethakka faced protests from locals during her visit to Peerzadiguda in the Medchal district on Wednesday, January 22.

She was there to inaugurate a Solid Waste Management (SWM) machine at a dumping yard, which has been a contentious issue for local residents.

The community has long demanded the removal of the dumping yard, expressing concerns about health risks for themselves and their children due to the waste management practices in the area.

Locals confront Seethakka

Local residents confronted the minister, questioning why a new machine was being introduced when they have consistently called for the dumping yard’s closure.

They voiced their distress over the adverse health effects caused by the site. In solidarity with the protesters, local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders joined the demonstration.

In response to the escalating protests, Minister Seethakka engaged with the demonstrators, assuring them that she would escalate their concerns to the district collector.

Police intervene to disperse crowd

However, as tensions remained high and protesters continued their agitation, police intervened to disperse the crowd.

Despite the unrest, minister Seethakka proceeded with the inauguration of the SWM machine, which was established in collaboration with ITC.

During her speech, she emphasized the need for modern technology to effectively manage solid waste generated from residential areas and reiterated her commitment to utilizing advanced methods for waste disposal and recycling.

Plea in Telangana HC alleges land encroachment by ex TTD chief

Hyderabad: A petition has been filed in the High Court alleging that former TTD chief and YSR Congress Party leader YV Subba Reddy and his wife, Swarnalatha Reddy, are attempting to encroach upon their land with police assistance.

The petitioners, Koppula Mallareddy, G Narsimhareddy, and Sheikh Islamuddin, brought this matter before Justice B Vijayasen Reddy’s bench for hearing on Wednesday, January 22.

The dispute centers around a 5.04-acre plot of land in survey number 87 located in the Kondapur village of the Shankarpally mandal in Ranga Reddy district.

The petitioners claim that despite having a favourable civil court ruling regarding the land, the couple is trying to take possession of it with police backing.

They assert that the land was purchased from Lakshmiah and his family members by Swarnalatha Reddy in 2006.

Representing Subba Reddy and his wife, senior advocate Vivek Reddy argued that they hold the title to the land through a registered sale deed and claimed that the petitioners do not possess any registered documents to support their case.

The bench, after hearing the arguments, clarified that police should not interfere in this civil dispute unless public order is threatened, at which point they could take necessary actions.

The hearing has been adjourned to February 19.

Addressing the media at the BJP office, the MP pledged to continue the fight against the land-grabbers in Telangana.

Rajender’s statement comes a day after he was booked for slapping a real estate agent at Ekashila Nagar in Pocharam municipality, Medchal-Malkajgiri district.

On January 21, Eatala slapped a real estate broker for allegedly trying to grab the land measuring 149 acres bought mostly by the lower-rung government employees from rural areas.

IT raids in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Income Tax Department (IT) continued raids on the premises of some leading Tollywood filmmakers for a third consecutive day in Hyderabad on Thursday.

The searches, which began on Tuesday, continued on the premises of well-known producer and Telangana Film Federation Development Corporation (TGFDC) chairman V. Venkata Ramana Reddy, who is popularly known as Dil Raju. The searches continued at various locations, including Dil Raju’s residence in Ujas Villas, Jubilee Hills, his office and the premises of his relatives.

The IT raids were also continuing on the leading production houses Mythri Movie Makers and Mango Media in Hyderabad. The department has not yet come out with a statement about the searches but it is believed that it identified a mismatch between the revenues earned by some recent movies and the income tax paid.

The searches related to ‘Pushpa 2:The Rule’, ‘Game Changer’ and ‘Sankranthiki Vasthunam’ were released recently.

‘Gama Changer’ and ‘Sankranthiki Vasthunam’ were produced by Dil Raju under the banner of Sri Venkateswara Creations. ‘Gama Changer’ starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani was released on January 10. ‘Sankranthiki Vasthunam’ was released on the occasion of Sankranthi last week. The film, starring Venkatesh, Aishwarya Rajesh, and Meenakshi Chaudhary, has become one of the highest-grossing films of Dil Raju.

The I-T searches were also conducted at the properties of Dil Raju’s family members, including daughter Hansita Reddy, producer Sireesh, who is co-owner of Sri Venkateswara Creations and director Anil Ravipudi.

The searches were also on the properties of Mythri Movie Makers, the makers of ‘Pushpa 2’. The searches targeted houses of Myrthi founders Naveen Yemeni and Yalamanchili Ravi Shankar, CEO Cherry and other key people associated with the leading production house.

‘Pushpa 2’ starring Allu Arjun released last month reported an earning of over Rs1,500 crore. The I-T officials on Wednesday also carried out a raid on ‘Pushpa 2’ director Sukumar’s office and other premises in Hyderabad.

The I-T sleuths were inspecting key documents, including balance sheets and I-T returns. They were also checking the bank lockers as part of the investigation.

Dil Raju’s wife Tejaswini was taken to a bank on Tuesday and lockers were opened in her presence. Several teams of I-T officials were checking the financial transactions of the production houses

The I-T officials are reportedly suspecting tax evasion and are verifying the documents. The searches are believed to be part of an investigation into alleged financial discrepancies and unaccounted income. Officials are scrutinising financial records and transactions to ascertain potential tax evasion.
