Campus placements at Hyderabad engineering colleges hit by job market uncertainty

top engineering colleges in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Campus placements in engineering colleges in Hyderabad have taken a significant hit as the job market grapples with uncertainty.

As per a report published in TOI, placement officers and experts believe that the apprehensions linked to the policies of the new US administration which is led by President Donald Trump have made large IT firms adopt a cautious “wait-and-watch” approach.

Startups take lead

Unlike previous years when IT giants dominated campus recruitments, the current placement season in Hyderabad’s engineering colleges has seen startups becoming the primary recruiters.

As per the report, companies such as Kodnest, Movidu Technologies, Ediglobe, Plivo, Workruit, Rubrik, and Pi Infotech have been actively hiring, particularly in top institutes across Telangana, including National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal and Osmania University (OU).

However, the scale of recruitment remains limited. Placement officers at premier institutes report that most startups are hiring in single digits.

They have described the current hiring scenario as worse than during the pandemic.

Salary of jobs offered during campus placements in engineering colleges in Hyderabad

Despite the challenges, students from centrally funded technical institutes in Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana are still securing competitive salary packages.

The average annual salary offered at these institutes ranges between Rs. 15 lakh and Rs. 18 lakh. On the other hand, graduates from state-run universities like Osmania University are receiving offers in the range of Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh per annum, the report added.

With the job market’s current state, all eyes are on potential policy changes that could revive large-scale recruitment by IT firms. Hyderabad’s engineering colleges are hopeful that such changes will lead to increased investments in the tech sector and a subsequent boost in campus placements.

Hyderabadis to witness Numaish like expo in Ramzan 2023

Hyderabad: Controversial Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Goshamahal MLA stirred controversy once again on Tuesday by demanding Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy to shift the All India Exhibition (Numaish) to the city’s suburbs.

“There was a fire incident some years back and luckily no one was injured. The exhibition should be shifted on 100 acres of land on the outskirts. There is a risk of any major mishap and loss of life,” Raja Singh said.

The BJP MLA said that traffic jams are occurring in the centre of Hyderabad due to the huge number of visitors who attend the Numaish.

Raja Singh also said that exorbitant parking fee is collected at different designated places around the Numaish area in Hyderabad. “People are fleeced at the exhibition parking. For car parking Rs 150 is collected and Rs 60 for bike. It is a scam taking place,” alleged Raja Singh.

The BJP MLA said that government institutions are used for parking by visitors as well. “The district collector should have consulted us. Visitors are Telangana people and how do you justify the high parking charges,” he said.

Raja Singh alleged that commission is paid to several high profile people including ministers from parking revenue and stall allotments during the Numaish in Hyderabad.

Construction of Park in Hyderabad's Moosapet in 3 weeks: HYDRAA

Hyderabad: Over complaints of encroachments of a park in Moosapet, the Hyderabad Disaster Response Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Tuesday, January 21, assured that the rejuvenation and reconstruction works would begin in three weeks, after inspection.

The Telangana government has also allocated Rs 50 lakh for the works.

HYDRAA’s assurance comes following complaints from residents of Moosapet over the encroachment of a 2,000-yard park on Anjaneyanagar, Road No 9, Hyderabad. The residents initially approached the GHMC, however, failed to receive any response.

In a video shared by HYDRAA, Mahender, a resident of Moosapet said, “Over GHMC’s apathy, we raised the issue with HYDRAA commissioner AV Ranganath. He assigned an officer to examine the encroachment and assured that the construction of the park would begin in three weeks.”

Ensure proper parking, sign boards for HYDRAA police station

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRAA) commissioner AV Ranganath inspected the facilities at the soon-to-be-inaugurated police station adjacent to Buddha Bhavan in Secunderabad.

During the inspection, Ranganath emphasized the importance of ensuring a public-friendly environment. He directed officials to install proper signage near the premises to guide visitors effectively. Additionally, he instructed the arrangement of adequate parking facilities for those arriving to lodge complaints.

The police station will also handle cases related to land grabbing, defacement of public property, and HYDRAA-related activities. It will be supervised by an officer of the assistant commissioner of police (ACP) who will act as the station house officer (SHO).

The citizens can now directly file cases against land grabbers, encroachers, public property damages, and defacement of public properties.

On January 7, the Telangana government issued orders to establish a dedicated police station under HYDRAA. The agency, chaired by the Telangana chief minister, Revanth Reddy, comprises various wings, including asset protection, disaster response, administration, legal, IT, and more.

About HYDRAA

The disaster management department in Hyderabad was officially renamed HYDRAA on July 19.

The disaster management wing of HYDRAA will be responsible for disaster response and relief, this wing will work with national and state agencies, issue timely warnings, coordinate emergency efforts, and maintain a database for risk assessment and predictions. It will also issue fire NOCs under the Telangana Fire Services Act.

HYDRAA also oversees traffic management during disasters, coordinates with various departments, and maintains a structured organization with the necessary resources. The logistics support wing will manage staff recruitment, office administration, procurements, and IT services. It will support disaster response operations and community training.

Later, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officially gave its nod to enable the commissioner of HYDRAA to protect public assets like roads, drains, public streets, water bodies, open spaces and public parks.

600 kg of animal meat being transported to Hyderabad seized in AP

Hyderabad: 600 kg of animal meat allegedly being transported to Hyderabad was seized in Anakapalle district in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, January 21.

“On Monday, we received information that cattle meat is being illegally transported. Based on the information a vehicle checking exercise was conducted at Vempadu Toll Plaza. The meat was being transported from West Bengal to Hyderabad,” said the Anakapalle circle inspector.

He further said that the container containing the meat was seized, the driver was detained and steps were taken to bury the meat.

This crackdown on the transport of meat, deeming it to be illegal, is part of a larger pattern which is often observed in several BJP-ruled states where raids and seizures of cattle and meat have become increasingly common.

Since the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) led by N Chandrababu Naidu, allied with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the local authorities have seemingly been emboldened to adopt stricter measures against cattle-related offences.

Such operations are not isolated incidents with reports indicating that this strategy aligns with the BJP’s ideological stance on cow protection and beef consumption. This intertwines with religious sentiments and communal tensions as it often targets the Muslim community.

Hyderabad: Eatala Rajender demands CM to protect lands of Ekasila Nagar victims

$

BJP MP Eatala Rajender demands chief minister A Revanth Reddy to protect the lands of the victims in Ekasila Nagar locality of Korremula village in Pocharam municipality.

Hyderabad: BJP Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender demanded chief minister A Revanth Reddy to protect the properties of 2,076 people who had purchased lands in Ekasila Nagar of Pocharam municipality; if the latter had any respect for democracy and concern for the poor.

Addressing the media after the incident on Tuesday, January 21, where he slapped a real estate broker for allegedly trying to grab the land measuring 149 acres bought mostly by the lower-rung government employees from rural areas; Eatala demanded the chief minister to order a comprehensive inquiry into the land grabbing attempts and justice for the victims who have been fighting to protect their lands for the past couple of decades.

He said that in 1985 layouts were made in 149 acres of Korremula village in the present Pocharam municipality and sold to 2,076 people.

“In 2006 a realtor used the help of the lower staff of the gram panchayat to create fake documents by altering revenue records to show those lands as agricultural lands. The victims got favourable orders from the courts thrice that this land belonged to them, but the realtor continued to harass the land owners,” Eatala said.

Eatala alleged that after the Dharani portal was introduced, the realtor used the help of district collector Amoy Kumar and got 9 acres registered in his name, and then went on to forcefully acquire 206 plots adjacent to his land out of a total of 2,076 plots in that area.

Pointing out that there were presently 700 houses constructed in those plots, Eatala claimed that when the owners of the plots went to the municipality for permission to construct houses, they were denied permission through the layout regularisation scheme (LRS).

Eatala alleged that on top of that, the realtor has been stationing over a hundred goons and hunting dogs to intimidate the victims (rightful owners). He also alleged that even the sub-inspector and circle inspector of Pocharam police station were acting at the behest of the land grabber and not supporting the victims.

“When the victims came to me yesterday and poured out their woes, I called the police commissioner and the collector to question what they were doing about the repeated land-grabbing incidents. I told them that I would come and visit Ekasila Nagar and speak with the victims today. Last night the goons questioned the victims what the MP could do, and also threatened them not to erect any tent or arrange chairs to hold a meeting there” Eatala said.

Eatala further explained that when he went to Ekasila Nagar on Tuesday, there were around 20 goons of the land grabber sitting with beer bottles as if they were throwing a challenge at him.

“When the victims showed me that they were the people who had been harassing them for the past couple of months I went towards them. When the police and revenue department failed to protect the victims despite them being protected by the court orders, the people will certainly revolt,” Eatala asserted.

Eatala also pointed out that such land-grabbing issues were rampant in Balaji Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, and Arundhati Nagar, and for the past six months, the victims have been approaching him for justice.

Also drawing the attention of the chief minister to what he claimed, was the handiwork of Congress leaders in land-grabbing incidents in that area, Eatala urged the chief minister to warn those leaders and punish those officials who have been playing stooge to land-grabbers.

Eatala also said that he will certainly raise the issue of Ekasila Nagar with revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, CCLA commissioner Navin Mittal, Medchal-Malkajgiri district collector, and Rachakonda police commissioner.

Telangana: Complaint raises questions on alleged ration card misuse in the past

Misuse of ration card in Rangareddy district and officials not acting on complaint alleged.

Hyderabad: Even as the state government plans to issue new ration cards to beneficiaries from January 26, the cases of ineligible beneficiaries falling through the cracks and enjoying government benefits continue to plague the system. An example of such abuse of government benefits has been alleged by a person who claimed that a former sarpanch, his wife, sister, father, and mother have been drawing the benefits of the public distribution system through the ration card fraudulently for all these years.

Sabavat Srinivas, a resident of Hasthinapuram in Rangareddy district had written to the district civil supplies officer on December 31, 2024, alleging that Ramavath Jagadeesh, sarpanch of Thakkallapally Thanda in Yacharam mandal of Rangareddy district, has served as the sarpanch of the village from 2019 to 2024, and his wife Ramavath Priyanka has been working in the banking sector.

The ration card of former sarpanch Ramavath Jagadeesh’s family

Srinivas also alleged that Jagadeesh’s sister Ramavath Thirumala’s husband was a private employee drawing a decent salary, Jagadeesh’s father Ramavath Anthiram Nayak has served as the village’s deputy sarpanch for the past 15 years, and his mother Ramavath Kamsalya has served as the Rythu Bandhu Samithi member in the village during the BRS government.

Srinivas complains that all these years that family has been enjoying the government’s benefits and continues to do so, while the administration overlooks the pilferage of taxpayers’ money despite his complaints to the authorities about the brazen violation.

The complainant has enclosed the voter lists, the details of the members in the ration card, and his representation reviewed by Ibrahimpatnam MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy.

“As the new ration cards drive is ongoing by the Government of Telangana, it is very important that such black fraudulent FSCs /ration cards should be filtered and deleted and severely punished. Such fraudulent ration causes a heavy burden on the public exchequer both in terms of administration and grains
under PDS,” opined social activist Dr Lubna Sarwath.

With the ministers of the Congress government announcing that none of the old ration cards will be canceled, it needs to be seen whether the ration cards will be given to those who deserve it or otherwise.

osmania hospital in hyderabad

Hyderabad: Health and police authorities in Hyderabad on Tuesday sealed a private hospital after busting an alleged kidney transplantation racket and arrested its managing director and some other employees.

Officials of Rachakonda police and the Department of Medical and Health conducted searches at Alkananda Multi-Speciality Hospital following complaints that the hospital was carrying out kidney transplants without mandatory permissions.

The hospital authorities were found to be allegedly luring kidney donors from other states and also calling doctors from outside the state to perform the transplants. They were making huge money through this racket.

On receipt of the information, health department officials with the help of police conducted a raid at the private hospital in Hyderabad on Tuesday evening. A preliminary investigation by the police revealed that kidney transplants were done for two persons each from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Kidneys donated by two women from Tamil Nadu were transplanted in two patients from Karnataka. Police shifted the kidney donors and two patients to the government-run Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad by ambulance.

According to police, the hospital was inaugurated only six months ago and it had permission to perform minor surgeries by two doctors.

Hyderabad: Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj is set to represent Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy after being dropped from the Indian squad for the upcoming white-ball series against England and the subsequent Champions Trophy 2025.

He has begun gearing up for the upcoming Group B Ranji Trophy match for Hyderabad against another former champion, Vidarbha, to be played in Nagpur from January 30 to February 2.

Mohammed Siraj takes part in training session in Hyderabad

The pacer started his preparations with a training session at the Gymkhana Grounds in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

India skipper Rohit Sharma said the 30-year-old right-handed pacer had lost his effectiveness with the old ball and was thus dropped from the team following India’s poor performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) said, “Mohammed Siraj gets into gear for the upcoming #RanjiTrophy match between Hyderabad and Vidarbha! He kicked off his prep with an intense session at Gymkhana grounds TODAY!”

The HCA also shared a video on X showing Siraj bowling at full steam in the nets to local batters.

Ranji Trophy

Vidarbha are currently leading the points table in Group B with 28 points from five matches, with Himachal Pradesh in second place with 21 points. Hyderabad is presently sitting in sixth position with nine points from five matches, including one win, two losses, and two draws.

Jagan Mohan Rao, the President of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), told IANS that he didn’t know the reason behind Siraj not being available for the game against Himachal Pradesh on January 23.

Rao added that there’s a likely chance of Siraj playing the next Ranji Trophy game for Hyderabad, where they will be up against table-toppers Vidarbha, starting on January 30 in Nagpur.

Mohammed Siraj wasn’t picked for India’s squad for the three ODIs against England and the ICC Champions Trophy.

In ODI matches from 2022 to 2024, Siraj picked up 71 wickets at an average of just 22.97, the most by an Indian pacer in this period.

IPL 2025

In the 2025 IPL Mega Auction, Mohammed Siraj’s career reached a new peak when he was signed by the Gujarat Titans for an impressive Rs 12.25 crore.

Starting with a base price of Rs 2 crore, Siraj attracted intense bidding wars from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals before Gujarat Titans ultimately secured his services.

Notably, RCB chose not to use their Right to Match (RTM) card, marking the end of Siraj’s six-year association with the team.
