Get constitutional protection for 42 pc BC quota: Mahesh Goud to Bandi Sanjay

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President, Mahesh Kumar Goud on Monday, February 17, challenged Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, to persuade the Centre to include in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution of India the Bill to be passed by the Telangana Assembly to enhance reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) to 42 percent.

He also asked Bandi Sanjay if he has the courage to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conduct a caste survey across the country.

Mahesh Kumar Goud was addressing the TPCC’s OBC executive meeting here at the state Congress headquarters Gandhi Bhavan.

He hit back at Bandi Sanjay for alleging that the Congress party is not sincere in implementing its poll promise to increase the BC quota to 42 per cent.

The TPCC President said a special session of the Telangana Assembly will be held next month to pass a Bill for 42 percent reservations for BCs.

The Congress leader said the Congress government would not only pass a Bill in the Assembly for 42 percent reservation for BCs but would take a delegation of leaders irrespective of their party affiliations to meet Prime Minister Modi.

Future belongs to BCs: Mahesh Kumar Goud

TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud claimed that the caste census has opened a new chapter in the welfare of BCs.

Stating that there is a lack of unity among BCs, Goud underlined the need for unity in the community.

He asserted that the future belongs to the BCs and asked if parties like BJP and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) could make someone from the community the chief minister. He claimed that only the Congress party can make a BC leader the chief minister.

The TPCC chief said the caste survey was conducted as per the aspiration of party leader Rahul Gandhi.

Mahesh Kumar Goud recalled that the Kamareddy BC declaration was passed under his leadership.

The Congress leader said BRS leaders have no moral right to talk about BCs. He slammed the KCR family saying it has a history of constructing projects for the sake of commissions.

Meanwhile, former Union Minister of State Arun Subhash Chandra Yadav met Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday to congratulate him on conducting a comprehensive caste survey and to use the data for the empowerment of OBCs.

He congratulated CM Revanth Reddy on behalf of the all-India OBC community as well as Madhya Pradesh OBCs and the Madhya Pradesh Yadav samaj.

As Ramzan approaches, Hyderabad's demand for dates soars

Hyderabad: With just two weeks until the holy month of Ramzan, Hyderabad’s markets are witnessing a surge in demand for khajoor (dates). A staple for breaking the fast, dates from around the world are making their way into local shops, adding to the festive spirit.

Dates from all over the globe are imported by traders and supplied in the local markets. The people purchase it in the retail market and consume it throughout the month. Traditional Muslims break roza (fast) with dates. More than two dozen varieties of dates are imported during the Ramzan month from Iran, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, United Arab Emirates and Oman.

The city through different agents gets hundreds of tons of dates from Mumbai. These dates are brought in containers in big ships to Mumbai where they are packed in boxes of different brands and shifted to the markets in the city.

“In Mumbai, there is a market where cardboard and plastic boxes are manufactured and supplied to businessmen. Every businessman gets his brand name printed on it, packs the dates in boxes and shifts it to the city,” said a local trader on condition of anonymity.

Many are unaware that some traders in the city sell expired or leftover stock of dates from the previous year. Since the date business is seasonal, many traders operate for just two months a year. Unsold stock is often stored without proper precautions, leading to damage, but it is later repackaged and sold.

“To avoid getting damaged or old stock, the customers should prefer loose dates over the ones packed in boxes. A mandatory check must be done before purchasing the dates,” said a trader at Begum Bazar market.

There are complaints of traders polishing rotten or insect-mixed dates with oil and selling them at a comparatively lower price. Traders who are old to the market, advise buyers not to eat dates having a bad smell or taste or in case there are insects or their eggs.

“People are quite ignorant of the matter and unable to distinguish between expired or healthy dates. It is important to check the quality before purchasing and consuming it,” advised Sumith Jain, a trader at Begum Bazaar.

There are three signs to watch out for: signalling those sweet dates have taken a turn for the worse. Check if the dates are discoloured or mouldy, check the smell and then break open the date to check for worms.

“Authentic dates are naturally sweet and do not require additional coatings of sugar or glucose syrup. When gently pressed, genuine dates remain soft and flexible, whereas counterfeit ones may feel hard and excessively sticky due to added sweeteners,” said Abdul Qavi, a trader at Feelkhana.

PIL against Hyderabad Metro expansion in Telangana HC

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has criticized HYDRAA’s demolitions in the name of protecting government lands and lakes, stating they often violate natural justice principles.

The court noted demolitions are conducted within 24 hours of issuing notices. It pointed out that even when inquiries are conducted after issuing notices, they fall on second Saturdays, with demolitions occurring on Sundays, which contradicts a previous High Court Full Bench ruling.

HC seeks explanation on demolitions in Muttangi

The court ordered HYDRAA Inspector Rajashekhar to appear in person on February 20 to explain the demolitions in Muttangi, which were carried out without investigation.

This followed a petition by A Praveen, who challenged the demolition of his shed in Sangareddy district’s Patancheru Mandal, Muttangi village, without consideration of the documents he submitted. Justice K. Lakshman heard the case.

The petitioner’s lawyer argued that HYDRAA issued notices based on a petition from the Gayatri Members Association alleging construction in a park area.

He said that despite submitting land conversion proceedings, sale deeds, and panchayat permissions, HYDRAA demolished the structure unilaterally without investigating or hearing from the complainant or petitioner.

Judge raps HYDRAA

The judge remarked that HYDRAA does not even give 24 hours to submit documents. He cited a previous case where notice was given on June 8 and demolition occurred on June 9.

The court stated that HYDRAA’s proceedings are against the public and violate natural justice principles.

Hyderabad: Telangana Health minister C Damodar Raja Narasimha on Monday, February 17 remarked that the categorisation of Scheduled Castes (SC) in the state will provide better job opportunities for the Madiga community.

Narasimha asked the officials to create awareness among people regarding the field-level reservation process which will also help in the elimination of doubts regarding the categorisation.

“The categorisation of SC is being done to eliminate inequalities among the oppressed castes,” the minister said in a meeting with legislators from the Madiga community and representatives of the Madiga community.

The Health minister who is a member of the SC categorisation panel, elaborated on the reservation process based on the categorisation.

Telangana rejects SC categorisation panel’s call to scrap creamy layer quota

On February 4, the Telangana government accepted three key recommendations of a judicial commission appointed by it for implementation of SC categorisation, while rejecting the panel’s other suggestion to exempt the creamy layer from reservations, chief minister A Revanth Reddy said.

The Commission headed by retired High Court judge Justice Shameem Akther submitted its recommendations to the sub-committee headed by state civil supplies and irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy.

The panel has recommended the introduction of a creamy layer suggesting that MLAs, MPs, ZP chairpersons, Mayors and other public representatives, as well as those in government Group 1 service and similar positions, should be considered as the creamy layer.

The commission said the state government should take appropriate steps to exclude these people from availing the benefits of second-generation reservations, Reddy said.

“The government, after reviewing the recommendations of the single-member judicial commission led by Justice Shameem Akhtar, has approved recommendations 1, 2, and 3 mentioned above. However, it has rejected the 4th recommendation, which pertains to excluding the creamy layer from the scope of reservations,” Revanth Reddy said.

Categorisation of SC sub-castes into 3 categories

The commission in its recommendations said the 59 Scheduled Caste (SC) communities can be divided into three groups viz 1, 2, and 3 for a total reservations of 15 percent.

Group 1 comprises 15 socio-economically and educationally most backward and neglected scheduled sub-castes, for whom the commission has recommended 1% reservation. They form 3.288% of the total SCs.

In Group 2, there are 18 SC sub-castes that have been moderately benefited, which form 62.748% of the SCs. They have been recommended 9% reservation.

Group 3 covers 26 SC sub-castes which have been better benefited. They have been recommended by the commission to avail of 5% reservations.

Goshamahal BJP MLA Raja Singh threatens to quit party

Hyderabad: Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh on Tuesday, February 18, targeted the Congress government for giving allowing Muslim employees to leave offices early at 4 p.m. during the incoming Ramzan month. The relaxation of work timings is regular and happens every year in the state.

On February 17, the Telangana government has issued an order permitting all government Muslim employees/teachers/contract /outsourcing/boards/corporations and public sector employees to leave their offices/schools at 4.00 p.m. during the Month of Ramzan from March 2 to March 31 (both days inclusive) to offer prayers.

Attacking the Telangana government over the issue, Raja Singh said “I want to ask CM Revanth Reddy if there are similar benefits extended to Hindus on occasion of Ugadi and other Hindu festivals. The state government does not make arrangements for Hindu festivals. The Telangana people should understand what kind of people they have elected. Former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao was eight Nizam and CM Revanth Reddy is the ninth Nizam,” he said.

The BJP MLA went on to claim that wherever Congress governments are formed such privileges (like in Ramzan) are extended to the Muslims. “I urge the Hindus of Telangana to understand the Congress party agenda. In coming days, the Congress will impose a ban on Hindu festivals. If BJP comes to power we will ban all such privileges,” Raja Singh said.

Raja Singh and the BJP’s state leadership are also reportedly at crossroads over the appointment of the Golconda unit president with the controversial MLA threatening to quit the party if the leadership does not agree to his referral.

The Golconda unit comes under Raja Singh’s legislative constituency. The BJP leader had referred his nominee but the leadership has reportedly chosen another local leader as the party’s Golconda president.

Raja Singh claimed that despite suggesting a Backward Class (BC) or Scheduled Class (SC) candidate for the Golconda BJP president post, the position was reportedly given to someone closely associated with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM.

BRS MLA slams Telangana govt for removing KCR's posters in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao on Tuesday, February 18 slammed the Telangana government for taking down posters of former chief minister and party supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) in Hyderabad.

Rao expressed dismay over the removal of posters. The MLA said, “In its 10-year tenure, the BRS government did not remove posters regarding programmes of Opposition parties. However, the Congress government, in its 14-month rule, has targeted the Opposition for the smallest of things.”

The Kukatpally MLA alleged that the Congress government had placed banners and posters regarding various events across Hyderabad. He urged the government not to target the Opposition over such issues. The MLA questioned whether there are different sets of rules for the BRS and the Congress.

“If putting up of posters is an issue, then the government should release an order stating that all kinds of posters are banned,” he added. Rao said that the BRS will avenge the removal of posters when it regains power in Telangana.

Rao also slammed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for acting at the behest of the Telangana government.

GHMC removes KCR posters in Hyderabad

The Kukatpally MLA’s outburst comes a day after the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) removed posters of KCR put up in Hyderabad for the former Telangana CMs birthday on Monday.

The Disaster Response Force (DRF) was deployed at certain locations in the city to take down the posters.

The posters were reportedly removed based on orders from the Telangana government. GHMC staff including Disaster Response Force personnel, dismantled flexis and posters of KCR put by the BRS. Party leaders alleged selective action claiming that banners and posters of other party leaders remained untouched.

In several areas, BRS party workers obstructed municipal staff leading to heated exchanges and tense situations.

Kavitha slams Congress govt over resurvey of Caste in Telangana

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samith (BRS) MLC K Kavitha on Tuesday, February 18 criticised the Congress government over a resurvey of the caste census in Telangana.

According to her, so far, the government has reportedly received 43 requests for a resurvey for the Telangana caste census. Questioning the government’s seriousness regarding the matter, she stressed the need for a robust campaign to ensure maximum participation and accurate data collection.

Citing a news report, the BRS MLC said that the low number of requests is “A glaring testament to the failure of the Telangana government in mobilising people for the caste census resurvey.”

In a post on X, she asked, “If the Congress government is serious about the resurvey then where is the outreach and result?”

https://twitter.com/RaoKavitha/status/1891688119986160099\

Kavitha seeks real data on Telangana caste survey

On Monday, the BRS MLC urged the Telangana government to furnish real data regarding the caste survey in Telangana.

Kavitha urged Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy and Union minister Bandi Sanjay not to indulge in a debate on which caste the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi belong to. “Our only concern is the accurate data showing the number of Backward Classes (BCs) in Telangana. There is no need to debate whether Rahul Gandhi and Modi are from the backward classes or not,” she remarked.

“The Congress must fulfil its promises and the BJP representatives from Telangana should bring in funds from the Centre for the development of the state,” she said.
