Task force raids mandi restaurant in Hyderabad after receiving complaint

Hyderabad: A task force team from the Food Safety Department of Telangana conducted raids at a mandi restaurant in Hyderabad.

During the raid at The Arabian Mandi which is located in Sainikpuri, the team found serious food safety violations.

Acted on complaint

The officials conducted raids acting on a complaint.

On February 20, the officials conducted a thorough inspection of the establishment and identified multiple infractions that posed health risks to consumers.

Violations found during raid at mandi restaurant in Hyderabad

During the inspection, the team found that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) license was not displayed in a prominent place.

The establishment was found preparing mayonnaise using raw eggs which is strictly banned by the Government of Telangana. Authorities destroyed approximately 1 kg of the illegally prepared mayonnaise on-site.

It was also found that synthetic food colours were being used in the preparation of dishes.

Moreover, around 15 kg of marinated raw chicken was found stored for over a week in an unhygienic refrigerator that was rusty and stained with blood.

The raids also revealed that Hyderabad’s mandi restaurant’s refrigerator and kitchen area were heavily infested with cockroaches. Additionally, cockroaches were found in electric pipes, switchboards, and on raw materials, posing a serious contamination risk.

The kitchen was in a highly unsanitary state with open dustbins contributing to poor hygiene.

At the restaurant, no pest control records were maintained. Medical records for food handlers and Food Safety Training and Certification (FoSTaC) documents were not available.

The raids also uncovered that Hyderabad’s restaurant used cooking oil repeatedly for food preparation.

Authorities have initiated action under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 to address these violations.

IPS officers releived from Telangana to join AP cadre

Earlier on Saturday, two IPS officers were relieved from Telangana to join the Andhra Pradesh Cadre as per the order of the Union home ministry.

The two officers are former Telangana DGP and chairman for road safety Anjani Kumar and director of police academy Abhilasha Bisht.

SLBC tunnel roof collapse: Rescuers reached tunnel boring machine spot, says official

Hyderabad: As eight persons got trapped around 14 km inside the tunnel of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal project after part of its roof collapsed on Saturday, a rescue team made headway and reached the spot where a tunnel boring machine was working during the incident, Nagarkurnool District Collector B Santhosh said on Sunday.

However, silt poses a challenge to move further to reach the spot where the people are believed to have been trapped, he added.

The collector, who is supervising the rescue operation, said four NDRF teams–one from Hyderabad and three from Vijayawada, comprising 138 members, 24 personnel of the army, personnel of SDRF, 23 members from SCCL with equipment besides members of the infra firm are engaged in the rescue operations.

The rescuers have reached the point where the tunnel boring machine is there. As there is silt after that point, the NDRF team is making plans to go forward.

Oxygen and power supply has been made available in the tunnel and dewatering and the de-silting operation is also underway.

“As of now, we don’t have communication with them (those trapped). The rescuers will go inside and see and then we will be able to tell,” he said.

An NDRF official told a TV channel that one of the teams had last night went inside the tunnel.

There is a lot of debris and the TBM is also damaged and its parts are scattered inside.

“There is water logging 2 km just before the 13.5 km point. It is a challenging task and due to this our heavy equipment is not able to reach the last point and hence dewatering has to be completed which will enable the equipment to reach ahead. Then only the removal of debris can start. Additional motors have been used to speed up the dewatering process,” he said.

The team after reaching 13.5 km called those trapped, but did not get any reply from them, he said. After this point there is still a 200 meter patch and it is only after reaching near them it would be known their condition, he added.

Two engineers among eight trapped

Shedding more light on the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel roof collapse that occurred earlier in the day, state irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy informed there are two engineers, an eractor operator, a general operative and four labourers trapped inside.

The trapped workers included Manoj Kumar (Project Engineer) from Uttar Pradesh, Srinivas (Field Engineer) from Uttar Pradesh, Sandeep Sahu (Worker) from Jharkhand, Jataks (Worker) from Jharkhand, Santosh Sahu (Worker) from Jharkhand, Anuj Sahu (Worker) from Jharkhand, Sunny Singh (Worker) from Jammu & Kashmir, and Gurpreet Singh (Worker) from Punjab.

Assuring that no stone will be left unturned to rescue the trapped workers, the minister admitted that the rescue efforts have been challenging as the accident happened 14 km inside the tunnel.

Hyderabad Metro Rail MD NVS Reddy with other officials during the inspection.

Hyderabad: Metro rail managing director NVS Reddy on Sunday, February 23, said that the new detailed project report (DPR) for the Future City – Hyderabad airport connectivity in 40 minutes via Shamshabad. Reddy, who inspected the survey works on the corridor, said that the metro route for this corridor will be 40 kilometers long.

“It will start from the airport terminal, pass alongside the proposed metro rail depot in airport area, follow the boundary wall of airport for about 5 kilometers along Mansanpally Road and reach Pedda Golconda ORR Exit,” said a press release from the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) MD. The Hyderabad Airport Metro Ltd (HAML) is preparing the DPR for the Future City metro rail project.

Future City Hyderabad metro will have ‘green’ corridor

The Hyderabad metro MD also said that Telangana chief minister Revanth Reddy’s intention is to develop green corridors for the Future City, Future City, which is being planned as the city’s fourth urban extension. It is located along the Srisailam Highway which comes just after the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad’s Shamshabad

The new corridor aims to ensure swift and easy access to the Future City from the airport. Future City, which will have around fifteen thousand acres, is also being pegged as a pollution-free green city by the Telangana government.

On Sunday, the Hyderabad metro MD inspected the survey works for preparation of the DPR for the same corridor. The MD and his team trekked through hillocks and boulders on foot for the field inspection Due to the lack of a roadway after crossing Kongara Kalan, added the release. Moreover, to facilitate the development of about 1500 acres of government land at Bahadurguda near Pedda Golkonda exit as a world class hub, two “highly attractive metro stations” are being planned at Bahadurguda and Pedda Golconda, the Hyderabad metro MD stated

“From Pedda Golconda Exit, the metro route will continue as an elevated metro line for about 14 kilometers along the ORR to Tukkuguda Exit and then to Raviryala Exit. From Raviryala Exit to the under-construction Skill University at Meerkhanpet, the route will be developed via Kongara Kalan, Lemur, Timmapur, Rachalur, Gummadavelli and Panjaguda as “At Grade” metro rail corridor on the road surface in the 22 meters ( 72 feet) wide central part of the 100 meters (328 feet) wide Green Field Road being constructed by HMDA,” said the release from HMR.

The Hyderabad metro MD also added that the DPRs for Future City Metro Corridor, along with North City Medchal and Shamirpet corridors would be completed by the end of March and submitted to the central government after approval of the state government.

Earlier this month, various survey and investigation works required for preparation of DPRs (Detailed Project Reports) for the Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Medchal (24 km) and JBS to Shamirpet (21 km) metro rail corridors had begun. Traffic Surveys, soil testing (geotechnical investigation) and environmental impact assessment (EIA) are essential for DPR preparation.

Since the HMDA and the National Highways Authority already conducted some soil studies, Hyderabad metro authorities are now conducting soil tests at 25 locations on the JBS-Medchal route and 19 in the JBS-Shamirpet route, the Hyderabad metro rail MD said earlier.

Garbage near school raises health concerns in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The area around schools is supposed to be spick and span. But it is otherwise at the Government School Second Lancer II at Golconda in Hyderabad.

The boundary wall near the school is reduced into a garbage dumping ground by the residents irrespective of the presence of educational institutions that cater to the scholastic knowledge of the children.

Students sitting in the classrooms complain of foul smells emanating from the garbage dumps lying outside the school boundary. “Sometimes, the smell is so unbearable that we shift to some other classroom or just close the window of the classroom,” a school teacher said on condition of anonymity.

The parents have time and again complained to the local municipal sweepers to keep the place tidy and clean. “The municipal workers come only in the morning and clean up the area. After 10 am, the garbage finds its way to the place and by the time students take lunch there is a trash mound near the school,” complained Nazeer Ahmed, a parent.

One can find cows resting near the place indicating the animal’s feast of the leftovers disposed by the people at the garbage dump. “The road is quite wide enough. Alongside the school boundary wall, the GHMC should put up a fence and do plantations. It might minimize the problem to some extent,” explained Yousufuddin, a resident.

The local people complain that they are also facing problems. “When the huge volume of trash is accumulated it takes two to three days for the van to come and lift it. In such instances we face big problems,” complained a local woman resident.

The holy month of Ramzan is likely to begin on March 1. However, it depends on the sighting of the crescent moon.

If it is sighted on February 28, the holy month will begin on March 1. However, if no crescent moon is sighted on Friday, it will begin on March 2.

As Ramzan approaches, the demand for dates in Hyderabad will further rise.
