Some buildings fail to follow safety protocols, such as having emergency exit doors or a lack of fire extinguishers,” they added.

Commercial buildings must be equipped with fire detection systems, electrical control panels, pressureless aerosol units, sprinklers covering the entire structure, and automated fire doors.”

Rachakonda commissioner hands over body cameras to enforcement officers

Hyderabad: In a significant step in policing across Hyderabad, the Rachakonda traffic police have rolled out Body Worn Cameras (BWCs) or body cams, for their enforcement officers. These cameras will be worn by officers during their duties, recording their interactions with the public and providing an objective record of events.

The police aim to use body cameras to ensure transparency and accountability by recording all interactions between officers and the public, reducing the potential for disputes and complaints. It also aims to foster improved officer conduct and encourage personnel to uphold professionalism on duty. The cameras will hold officers responsible for their actions.

Additionally, the initiative is set to enhance public trust. Citizens can feel reassured knowing that their interactions with traffic enforcement officers are being recorded, promoting fairness and justice. The cameras also provide accurate evidence, which can be used in cases of traffic violations, disputes, or investigations.

The body-worn cameras have already been distributed to all traffic enforcement officers, including sub-inspectors and inspectors in the Rachakonda area.

“The introduction of body-worn cameras is a landmark step in our efforts to modernise traffic enforcement and foster greater trust between the police and the public. We are committed to leveraging technology to make our roads safer and ensure a more transparent system,” said Rachakonda commissioner of police, Sudheer Babu.

Pushpa 2 stampede: Pawan Kalyan praises Telangana CM, calls him ‘great leader’

Law is equal: Pawan Kalyan reacts to Allu Arjun's arrest

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister and actor Pawan Kalyan on Monday, December 30, praised Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy and called him a “great leader” for taking action against those responsible for the stampede during the premiere of Pushpa 2 The Rule at Sandhya Theatre on December 4.

Addressing the media in Hyderabad, the Andhra deputy CM also came out in support of the Hyderabad police and stressed that the law is equal for all. “I do not blame the police in such incidents. Their aim is to ensure public safety. That said, the theatre staff should have informed Allu Arjun earlier about any issues,” he said.

Reacting to the death of 35-year-old Revathi in the stampede, the Andhra deputy CM said, “It would have been better if someone had visited the victim’s family earlier on behalf of Allu Arjun. Revathi’s death has deeply shocked me. They turned what was already lost into an even greater tragedy. We should have conveyed earlier that we are all here to support the family.”

On December 4, Allu Arjun visited the Sandhya Theater for the premiere of his movie Pushpa 2. However, the public went out of control leading to a stampede which caused the death of Revathi and her son was critically injured.

He said there should have been a sense of regret in the Pushpa 2 star. “There is a clear lack of humanity in this matter. Everyone should have gone to Revathi’s house to offer reassurance and condolences,” Pawan Kalyan added.

The Andhra deputy CM concluded by saying that people’s anger stems from the absence of such a gesture. Allu Arjun, too, feels the pain of knowing that someone lost their life because of this incident.

CCTVs yet to be installed at Park in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: It’s been more than six years, since the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) threw the Kishanbagh Park open to the public, but the authorities concerned have yet to install a closed circuit in and around the recreational spot.

The park was inaugurated in the year 2018 by the then minister for MAUD, K T Rama Rao. Since then there has been a demand for installing closed circuit cameras to enhance the security around the park.

“On Sunday two to three thousand people visit the park and on normal days around 300 to 500 people come. We requested the authorities to install the closed circuit cameras but our pleas went unheeded so far,” complained a resident of Asad Baba Nagar, Abdul Riyaz.

To prevent the mischievous elements the residents staying in the backside of the park had installed cameras in their localities. Inside the park and at the main gate there are no closed-circuit cameras. “Due to absence there is always fear in the visitors about the safety of children and women. Vagabonds move around sometimes in the park,” complained another Hyderabad resident Junaid Ahmed.

The Hyderabad police on numerous occasions requested the GHMC authorities to install cameras in the park to ensure the safety of the people. The police had informed the GHMC that the park is spread over a vast area and there are several neighbourhoods adjoining the park. Several families visit during the evenings while a couple of hundred people come for a morning walk every day.

In December last year (2023), an 18-month-old girl was kidnapped by two women from Kishanbagh. The infant was rescued by the police and two women Naseem Begum, 62, of Kishanbagh and her daughter, Ayesha Begum, 32, of Nawab Sahab Kunta were arrested.

The child, Saleha, daughter of Mohd Shafeeq and resident of Langer Houz a suburb in Hyderabad, had gone to Kishanbagh Park along with her relatives who had gathered for a family function on Sunday. While the child was entering the park along with other children, Naseem kidnapped the girl and escaped from the place.

The Hyderabad police faced a tough time as there were no closed-circuit cameras installed at the park. The police then took the help of the footage of private cameras installed around and rescued the child after identifying the kidnappers.

Hyderabad water board to launch drive for timely supply this summer

Hyderabad: To prepare for the upcoming summer season, a special 120-day drive will be launched from February 15 to June 15 focused on monitoring water supply and timing to ensure uninterrupted supply, said Hyderabad water board managing director, Ashok Reddy. The following announcement was made during a Zoom meeting on Monday, December 30.

Ashok Reddy stressed the importance of completing any necessary pipeline work before the summer months and asked officials to submit proposals for new pipeline constructions or equipment as needed.

Demand for water tankers soars in Hyderabad

The Hyderabad water board MD also expressed a noted rise in tanker bookings particularly from 20 sections across 6 divisions. He revealed that last summer, 100 families booked 31,000 trips and instructed officials to investigate the reasons behind this situation.

In contrast, 40,000 families accounted for 70 percent of the tanker bookings. Upon conducting a survey, it was found that only 18,000 of these families had built cesspools with notices issued to the others. The MD warned that if cesspools are not constructed, tanker rates would be doubled starting next year.

In response to the increasing demand for water supply, the Hyderabad water board MD announced the appointment of special officers in high-demand areas along with a nodal officer at the DGM level to monitor the situation.

The executive director Mayank Mittal instructed Hyderabad water board officials to complete urgent works on transmission lines, including valve replacements and leak repairs with proposals for these tasks to be submitted soon.

The MD earlier highlighted that the Hyderabad water board’s goal is to complete the de-silting of 3600 kilometres of sewerage pipelines and clean 3 lakh manholes by the end of December. Looking ahead, Ashok Reddy revealed plans to complete all scheduled work by April next year.

This includes constructing new sewer pipelines in areas identified during the drive and working to prevent polluted water supply. In the final 20 days of the program, the focus will be on reducing complaints further.

Hyderabad town planning dept to address illegal constructions

Hyderabad: GHMC commissioner Ilambarthi instructed the Town Planning Department to investigate complaints about illegal constructions and issue notices as required. During a public hearing at the GHMC head office on Monday, December 30 he also recommended that the department provide a report on the actions taken regarding the received complaints.

To address this, the GHMC commissioner appointed a special Additional chief city planner (CCP) and directed him to oversee the resolution of issues. He further instructed the CCP to review the town planning applications weekly and take disciplinary action against officers who fail to resolve problems at the field level.

Timely resolution of Prajavani complaints: GHMC

Deputy Mayor Mote Srilatha Shobhan Reddy along with the GHMC commissioner encouraged officers to promptly resolve the complaints submitted through the Prajavani platform stressing the need for regular reviews of representations received.

On Monday, a total of 82 representations were submitted from the six GHMC zones with 48 received at the GHMC headquarters. Of these, 29 complaints were directed to the Town Planning Department mainly regarding illegal constructions in Hyderabad, 9 to the Tax Department, and others to various departments including Health, Finance, and Housing.

In addition, three representations were submitted through the Prajavani phone-in service, which have been forwarded to the relevant departments for swift resolution.

GHMC to launch online portal to curb illegal constructions in Hyderabad

To tackle concerns regarding illegal construction in Hyderabad, the GHMC plans to introduce an online portal to monitor violations and impose heavy penalties on property owners.

According to the TOI report, this move follows the Telangana High Court’s recent directive for stricter action against illegal constructions, which include unauthorized floors, road encroachments, deviation from approved plans, and violations of building codes, such as construction without proper approvals or occupying government or private land.

In the past five years, over 2.5 lakh writ petitions have been filed in the Telangana High Court over the past five years regarding illegal constructions in Hyderabad. During GHMC’s Prajavani program, around 40 to 50 percent of petitions were regarding illegal constructions in Hyderabad.
